Past NYC FreeRepublic Chapter Head & Longtime Freeper Firebrand has been in the hospital for the past 5 days. She could use our prayers for a complete recovery. She has no internet access in the hospital at the moment, but God-willing she will eventually get back online soon. I’m sure she will be grateful for prayers, and any get-well messages addressed to her in this thread.

  • Republican firebrand Palin takes on Obama on energy ("stall, baby, stall")

NEW ORLEANS (Reuters) – Republican firebrand Sarah Palin fired up party loyalists on Friday with a biting critique of President Barack Obama's new plan for offshore oil and gas drilling as nothing more than "stall, baby, stall." Palin, the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee and former governor of Alaska, did not say she planned to run for president in 2012 but did nothing to discourage speculation in a speech to the Southern Republican Leadership Conference. A polarizing figure in American politics, Palin found a hearty welcome from several thousand conservatives who stampeded into a hotel ballroom to grab seats for...

Meet The Sotomayors One is a Latina firebrand, the other a model of judicial restraint. It's the latter who will appear before the senate judiciary committee. But it's the former, conservative critics fear, who will sit on the highest court in the land. Will the real Sonia Sotomayor please stand up? Evan Thomas, Stuart Taylor Jr. and Brian No July 11, 2009 In the press portraits written since Barack Obama named her to the Supreme Court in May, two Sonia Sotomayors have emerged. One is the fiery Latina activist who formally complained to the federal government about her university's alleged...
  • How Rush Limbaugh helped elect Barack Obama

Conservative radio buffoon Rush Limbaugh thinks of himself as an ace strategist and so he thought he was being extremely clever back in March when he launched "Operation Chaos" an effort to undermine frontrunner Barack Obama's chances in the fall election by prolonging the Democratic primary season and forcing Obama to deplete his resources early. Rushbo, accordingly, urged his conservative Republican listeners to take advantage of open primaries in many thats that allow non-Democrats to participate and vote for Hilary Clinton in order to drag the race out as long as possible. Brilliant eh? And how mischievous! Unfortunately the Limbaugh...
  • Analysis: Firebrand cleric more cautious - Muqtada al-Sadr

BAGHDAD, Iraq - U.S. and Iraqi forces strike the Baghdad base of radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr — but his gunmen hold their fire. U.S. soldiers kill 15 of al-Sadr's followers, drawing little more than a few perfunctory complaints. That's a dramatic departure in style for the youthful firebrand, who launched two major uprisings against the American-led coalition two years ago when U.S. authorities closed his newspaper and pushed an Iraqi judge into issuing an arrest warrant against him. If anything, al-Sadr is more powerful today than he was then. But that power is also a restraint: al-Sadr has more...

Howard Dean, rebel firebrand turned Democratic Party head 1 hour, 19 minutes ago WASHINGTON (AFP) - Howard Dean, the outspoken medical doctor whose run for the Democratic presidential nomination last year spectacularly flared and burned out, surprised fans and foes alike by taking the leadership of the Democratic Party. As chairman of the Democratic National Committee, he assumes responsibility for a party much-chagrined after ceding two presidential races and control of Congress to rival Republicans, and unsure how to define itself to voters. Branded a radical leftist by his opponents and distrusted by the party's powerful Washington old guard, Dean...

The coming economic crisis. Unemployment. Health care for the poor. The almost 1,500 dead soldiers. The almost 100,000 dead Iraqis. Armstrong Williams and Maggie Gallagher. The Christian Conservative takeover of our nation. The missing 9 billion. The missing weapons of mass destruction. The impending invasion of Iran, and Syria. The total failure to protect us on 9-11.

<p>NEW YORK -- Amid chants of "We Support George" and "U-S-A! U-S-A!," Robert Cuellari held a sign bearing a picture of his 19-year-old son, Air Force Private Robert Cuellari Jr., who is serving in the war. "He's not there for Bush, he's there for you," Cuellari's sign read as the Freehold resident stood amid 1,300 people gathered in Times Square yesterday for a rally to support the military effort in Iraq.</p> <p>"I don't want my kid coming back to anti-war protests. It should be unconditional love for these kids and the country," Cuellari said.</p>

We got to Times Square shortly before noon, and there were well over 1000 patriotic people there! We started out up front, but my dad was uncomfortable and we kept going back and back and back and back... Therefore the only speaker photos I have are of the lady from the Christian Coalition and a couple of FReepers.By the time we left, there were at *least* close to 3000 flag-waving, "USA! USA! USA!"-chanting patriots squeezed into the area near the ticker tape in Times Square.I didn't see any other threads on this, so I apologize if this is a duplicate.
