<p>Following the release of a report earlier this week exposing controversial, anti-Islamic FBI training materials, the agency has halted the questionable briefings.</p> <p>On Wednesday, Wired.com’s Spencer Ackerman wrote that the FBI has been teaching counter-terrorism agents that American Muslims who are “main stream” are likely to be sympathetic to violent terrorists. The charge apparently comes from FBI whistle blowers who are concerned over the purportedly biased lessons.</p>

The FBI is teaching its counterterrorism agents that 'main stream' Muslims are likely to be terrorist sympathisers and that the more devout a Muslim the more likely they are to be violent. According to documents leaked by an FBI whistleblower, agents have also been instructed that the Islamic practice of giving charity is a 'funding mechanism for combat' and that the Prophet Mohammed was a 'cult leader'. The programme even featured a graph showing a sliding scale of Koran-inspired violence.

The FBI on Thursday said it had stopped a training session that called the Prophet Muhammad a “cult leader,” said mainstream Muslims were likely to support violent extremism and described the Islamic principal of charity as a “funding mechanism for combat.” The content of the training session set off a wave of concern among Muslims across the nation who had been trying to help authorities battle homegrown terrorism.
