Michelle Obama’s lavish holiday in Marbella has led her to be compared to Marie Antoinette. The First Lady is in the Spanish city for four days with her daughter Sasha – and a total of 68 Secret Service agents from the US. She is staying at the five-star Hotel Villa Padierna, where her entourage has reserved 60 of the 129 rooms.

State Rep. Carl Wimmer has been in such demand on the speaking circuit over the past month that he has begun charging up to $4,500 for engagements outside of the state. The Herriman Republican said he has had to start charging for speaking engagements, a move that appears to be a first for Utah lawmakers and one the House speaker questioned as possibly trying to “leverage” his elected position. Wimmer, the co-founder of the states-rights-oriented Patrick Henry Caucus, said he has received several invitations to discuss the group’s principles, but the cost of travel has become a burden. Wimmer said...

First lady’s plan targets ‘food deserts’posted by Landon Hall May 13th, 2010, 7:42 am No, not food “desserts.” That’s the way I first read it, too. Michelle Obama isn’t trying to take away our pie and ice cream. We’re talking “deserts,” places across America where people don’t have easy access to basic, healthy foods like fresh vegetables. The first lady’s Childhood Obesity Task Force report, released earlier this week, says 23 million people live in low-income urban or rural areas that are more than a mile from a supermarket. As a county somewhere in between urban and rural, O.C. doesn’t...

Senior prom fell far short of the rite of passage Constance McMillen was hoping for when she began a legal battle to challenge a ban on same-sex dates. The 18-year-old lesbian student said Tuesday she was one of only seven students to show up at a private event chaperoned by school officials last Friday night. She said the rest of her peers went to another private event where she wasn't invited. "It was not the prom I imagined," she said Tuesday. "It really hurts my feelings. These are still people who I've gone through school with, even teachers who...

(USA Today notes that Carpenter was not at the house during the interview.) Meet Rosie O'Donnell and other stars' surprise BFFs "We're a family, we remain...

"Does it sound campy to say I love gay men?” asks Meghan McCain, sipping an iced tea at the nouveau-chic Hotel Palomar in Washington, D.C.’s Dupont Circle. Campy or not, the lovesick McCain has been ubiquitous this year, sallying forth on late-night TV -- Larry King Live, The Colbert Report, The Rachel Maddow Show -- to scold the Republican establishment for its social conservatism and stump for gay marriage. “If two people fall in love, they should have the option to get married just like I can,” she told Stephen Colbert, pointing out the inherent hypocrisy of a party that...

And I’m proud to tell you there is a special role for the Log Cabin Republicans to play in our future. The last two years of my life have been...

SYDNEY, Australia (AP) - An obesity pandemic threatens to overwhelm health systems around the globe with illnesses such as diabetes and heart disease, experts at an international conference warned Sunday. "This insidious, creeping pandemic of obesity is now engulfing the entire world," Paul Zimmet, chairman of the meeting of more than 2,500 experts and health officials, said in a speech opening the weeklong International Congress on Obesity. "It's as big a threat as global warming and bird flu."

Friends, Let the resounding defeat of Senator Joe Lieberman send a cold shiver down the spine of every Democrat who supported the invasion of Iraq and who continues to support, in any way, this senseless, immoral, unwinnable war. Make no mistake about it: We, the majority of Americans, want this war ended -- and we will actively work to defeat each and every one of you who does not support an immediate end to this war. Nearly every Democrat set to run for president in 2008 is responsible for this war. They voted for it or they supported it. That...

There are, as stated earlier, now more than 2,000 young Americans who have died in Iraq. She wants to be a candidate for president and she doesn't even mention our dead, or our next dead. Wait. Here is question 9: "How concerned are you that the administration's unilateral policies have reduced our number of allies and endangered our national security?" How absolutely marvelous! "It depends on what your definition of 'is' is," her husband said when he was questioned about rolling around on the office carpet with a young office worker. And she not only copies, but clearly surpasses. She...

• 1968: US Senator Edward Kennedy’s car drove off a bridge on Chappaquiddick Island, Massachusetts killing his 28-year-old companion Mary Jo Kopechne. Kennedy fled the scene of the accident and received a suspended sentence of two months and one year's probation. Chappaquiddick now stands for political nemesis— a shady part of ones past that won't go away.

GOOD MORNING: Michael Moore met with Harvey Weinstein and Moore says they plan to start working -- now -- on "Fahrenheit 9/11½." "We want to get cameras rolling now and have it ready in two-three years," Moore says. "We want to document and commercialize it. Fifty-one percent of the American people lacked information (in this election) and we want to educate and enlighten them. They weren't told the truth. We're communicators and it's up to us to start doing it now. The official mourning period is over today and there is a silver lining -- George W. Bush is prohibited...
