CNN medical analyst Dr. Jonathan Reiner said Wednesday on “The Lead” that cloth masks were “fashion” and do not protect against COVID-19. Anchor Jake Tapper said, “One of the issues I hear a lot from viewers is the CDC doesn’t seem to distinguish — although they acknowledge on their website that there is a difference — they don’t seem to distinguish the real difference between a cloth mask that your Aunt Sadie made you with Eagles logos on it or whatever and an N95 mask. But there is a big difference. The CDC acknowledges it on the website, but when...

First lady Jill Biden appeared at the Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony on Friday, wearing a mask as she joined just a handful of world leaders at the stadium closed to the public over the COVID-19 pandemic. Biden, 70, wore a blue mask to go along with her black-and-white polka dot dress and long pearl necklace as she represented the US in her first solo international trip as first lady. She could be seen standing and clapping in the almost empty stands while the United States team entered the 68,000-seat stadium. For the Opening Ceremony, Biden wore a black and white...

Victoria’s Secret is getting back into the fashion show business after backlash over its one-size-fits-all definition of sexy killed off the annual extravaganza two years ago. “Our intention is to get back into the fashion show business in a culturally relevant way,” chief executive Martin Waters told investors in a conference call on Monday. “You should anticipate that the fashion show will be part of our business. We will redefine it,” Waters said. Victoria’s Secret canceled the popular catwalk event featuring its famous “Angels” donning massive wings with their skimpy lingerie in 2019, after 24 years. The event was scrapped...

Jill Biden joined Joe Biden in the South Court Auditorium of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building in Washington as he signed a bill to designate the National Pulse Memorial in Orlando. Joe also delivered remarks on LGBTQ+ Pride month, and the liberal media said that should explain Jill’s decision to opt for her Dolce & Gabbana patchwork dress from the Spring 2021 collection. Officially this dress was designed to reflect the colours and ambiences of Sicily with an abundance of patterns, and colours, but for Jill it represented the coming together of all communities which is what the LGBTQ+ stands...

It’s hard to find someone who doesn’t love a good steal — but there are a few pieces that are worth splurging on. For some, it’s an iconic handbag, and for others, it could be a piece of jewelry that they’ve been saving up for. Somehow, for editors and influencers alike, the one thing they’ll always shell out for is a great pair of shoes. “When I invest in my wardrobe, shoes and bags are always my go-to,” says Kelsey Stiegman, a senior style editor at Seventeen. “I try to go for pieces that are either incredibly unique or timeless...

SNIP The former congressman gave viewers on YouTube an eye full Wednesday, when he ended a Zoom interview by revealing he was wearing a tight pair of Daisy Dukes along with his dress shirt and suit jacket. The 85-year-old Libertarian inadvertently gave the glimpse of his liberally cut short shorts in the last seconds of a video chat on political issues with host Doug Casey. The men had finished discussing the future of personal liberty, when Paul rolled his chair back from the camera and showed just how much liberty his tiny jeans allowed his slightly tanned, thighs to enjoy.

Reporters traveling with first lady Jill Biden got an April Fools’ Day surprise on their flight back from California to Washington on Thursday. During meal service, a flight attendant with a “Jasmine” nametag passed out Dove ice cream bars. She wore a black mask and a black pantsuit and had short black hair. A few minutes later, “Jasmine” reemerged without the wig — revealing herself to be Jill Biden, laughing and proclaiming, “April Fools!” The first lady’s aides told reporters that they were just as surprised to discover the true identity of “Jasmine.” But what wasn’t an April fools joke...

A glamorous couple 'born in the wrong era' claim they're regularly stopped in the street by people wowed by their 'time-warp' wardrobes. Anne and Danny Shearer, from Roberton, South Lanarkshire, share a mutual love for vintage-style clothing, and regularly pick up classy 1940s and 1950s-style clothing for just a few pounds in charity shops and on eBay. It's not just the pocket-friendly prices of the stylish clothing that appeal to 52-year-old college lecturer Anne and 57-year-old college manager Danny, but also the more ethical and sustainable nature of shopping in this way.

Viewers were left hooked by dark real-life BBC drama The Serpent, but it seems the twisting storyline wasn't the only thing that grabbed the attention of fans. The eight-part drama, which earlier this week became iPlayer's most watched show, has sparked a huge interest in 1970's style clothing - with some items gaining an 158 per cent increase in searches on eBay UK. The show tells the story of serial killer Charles Sobhraj who drugged and killed at least a dozen people on the Hippie Trail in Asia in the 1970s, with the help of his besotted lover and accomplice...

They have divided fashionistas and feminists for generations, but scientists now claim to have proof that high heels are sexy. Researchers recruited 52 female university students aged 18 to 24 and shot videos of them walking in flat shoes and in their own high heels, varying in height from 8cm to 10cm. Editing software was used to erase their feet so that only the women’s body movements could be assessed – and all had been instructed to wear similar dark, tight-fitting T-shirts, with jeans or leggings and have their hair tied back to ensure uniformity.

Gucci is known for setting trends – but we’re not sure this is one that will catch on. The fashion house is selling a pair of upside-down cat’s eye sunglasses – and they’ll set you back £470. Cat’s eye shapes – rounded at the base and pointed at the side – were popular in the 50s and 60s but have been back in style over the last few years. But adding their twist, Gucci has inverted the whole shape, with the legs and nose bridge the same way up so the glasses are wearable. The description on the website says:...

Women are the subject of unwanted sexual advances and physical contact all the time. Despite this, they often have a hard time being believed. In 2018 Swiss beverage company Schweppes teamed up with Brazilian advertising agency Ogilvy to create dresses that records groping. This is their “Dress for Respect” project. (1) Dress For Respect: Dresses that Records Groping After hearing numerous complaints from women that even men they trust don’t believe them when they experience sexual harassment, Schweppes and Olgivy created dresses that record groping using built-in sensors. (2) Three women were then sent on a night out wearing the...

Recently, I saw an image of two women walking down the street. Both of them were wearing a slightly different iteration of the same outfit: high-waisted, knee-length shorts with graphic T-shirts tucked in, and a pair of chunky sneakers. The look is trendy; a perfect encapsulation of the pared down, vintage-inspired aesthetic embraced by GenZ TikTok influencers who seem to take style cues from teen movies released 25 years before they were born. It is, as the kids say, a vibe. The women’s heads are cropped from the photo, leaving them unidentifiable. Based on the trendiness of the clothing alone,...

A Victorian-obsessed graduate has snubbed the 9-5 life to pursue her dream of living like a 19th century duchess in a country mansion. Jacqueline Brown, 25, from St. Louis City, Missouri always thought she'd take an office job after university, but decided to pursue her passion for the Victorian era after coming across the opportunity to be the live-in caretaker of a 19th century manor house. The graphic design graduate, who estimates she has spent over $5,000 on period clothing in the last three years, wiles away her days showing guests around the 1853-built Oakland House and tending to the...

In front of a massive Calvin Klein billboard in Manhattan, Black transgender model, actress and activist Jari Jones popped a bottle of champagne while her own likeness looked down over the city streets. The image of herself she was celebrating is part of Calvin Klein's 2020 Pride campaign #PROUDINMYCALVINS, which features a cast of nine LGBTQ models including Jones, who identifies as a transqueer lesbian.

Joseph Gambino, the easy-going son of Mafia don Carlo Gambino who became a millionaire businessman thanks to his father’s crime family clout — but who steered clear of the rest of the family business — died of natural causes last month at the age of 83. Gambino and his older brother Thomas were longtime owners and operators of numerous Garment District trucking companies. The family’s chokehold on the trucks that filled the West Side streets where the city’s rag trade once thrived was so total that competitors who tried to park their own rigs risked flat tires — or worse...

The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) has apologized after a fashion show held by graduating students featured accessories meant to depict exaggerated facial features that at least one model said were racist. Critics including one model at the show, Amy Lefévre, said that accessories handed out to models at the school's Feb. 7 show mimicked historically offensive caricatures of black people, and should not have been handed out to models, some of whom wore the accessories onstage. “I stood there almost ready to break down, telling the staff that I felt incredibly uncomfortable with having to wear these pieces and...
