There are some kids that just absolutely love school, and then these twenty-five who have other clever ways of dealing with it. For example, this student has a legitimate example for not doing their math homework...a duck fell asleep on the calculator. This may not work for every teacher, but this might have earned them some extra time.

<p>AUSTIN - Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick unveiled key portions of the upper chamber's education agenda on Tuesday, reviving proposals long unpopular with teacher groups that Patrick said would empower parents and help students leave poor-performing schools.</p> <p>"We'll be talking about school choice and pre-K at a later date," Patrick said at a morning press conference in the Capitol, flanked by members of the Senate Committee on Education. "But reforming education is more than a single shot. It is a comprehensive plan that takes in every area of the state, takes in every student, every parent and every teacher."</p>

Boehner says Obama's bills makes him 'want to throw up' Kara Rowland (Contact) The top House Republican said Tuesday that the liberal bills being pushed by President Obama and congressional Democrats make him "want to throw up" and that Mr. Obama's first 100 days in office have shown he has "no plan for keeping America safe." Minority Leader John A. Boehner of Ohio said in an interview that decisions such as closing Guantanamo Bay prison and releasing classified memos on CIA interrogation techniques reflect a dangerous, "piecemeal approach" to national security. "I'm just looking at some of these tactical moves...

Chicago public schools braced for a "logistical nightmare'' Wednesday, revealing that an estimated 250,000 students could be vying for only 5,000 seats under tough new federal standards designed to free students from failing schools. Officials released tentative data showing that 368 schools--or 61 percent of all city public schools--could have to offer transfers to 54 higher-performing ones under the "choice'' provisions of the No Child Left Behind law. "With such a long list of schools eligible for choice, following the law becomes a logistical nightmare,'' Chicago Board of Education President Michael Scott said. Statewide, an estimated 209 additional schools also...

The NYT - Education "Lessons" column July 3, 2002 Failed Schools? The Meaning Is Unclear By RICHARD ROTHSTEIN THE Supreme Court ruled last week, in a case involving Cleveland schools, that public money in the form of vouchers could subsidize the tuition of students who choose to attend religious schools. It was only partly a legal judgment that such aid does not violate the separation of church and state. What propelled the court was also a policy conclusion that vouchers may be a way to rescue children from failing public schools. Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist said that his majority...
