On Wednesday, Boeing announced it would put a second 787 assembly line in Charleston, S.C., rather than Everett, WA.

Discussions between the Machinists union and Boeing over the second 787 production line for Everett are effectively dead, according to a person familiar with the negotiations. An Everett woman who posed as a teenage boy was arrested Sunday for allegedly molesting a 14-year-old girl who believed the older woman was her boyfriend. Lorelei Josephine Corpuz, 30, lived for more than a year as a 17-year-old boy named "Mark," according to papers filed in Everett District Court. As "Mark," Corpuz persuaded the girl's family to let "Mark" live in their home as the girl's boyfriend. Corpuz claimed to be an orphan, police alleged. A Pakistani immigrant accused of burning down his grocery store in Everett and trying to make it look like a hate crime has been convicted of arson. Mizra Akram, 40, could face as much as five years in prison for the crime. U.S. District Judge Marsha Pechman convicted him Wednesday. Akram owned Continental Spices, a Pakistani and Middle Eastern grocery. Prosecutors said he recruited an acquaintance, Naveed Khan, to help set the July 2004 fire after the store's finances worsened. EVERETT – A tense standoff with a man who sent bullets flying inside and out of a convenience store Monday ended when the man shot and killed himself. With the Boeing Co.'s 787 Dreamliner on a record order pace for a new airplane, executives should know within a few months how much they can boost production rates to meet "overwhelming" demand, and how many workers will assemble the jet at the Everett plant. Mike Bair, vice president and general manager of the 787 program, said Wednesday that Boeing still projects about 1,000 people will be needed, with more than half of those on final assembly.
