Senator Dianne Feinstein, a California Democrat, said she has reached an agreement with two farm-state lawmakers to end ethanol subsidies July 31. Feinstein's agreement with Senators Amy Klobuchar, a Minnesota Democrat, and John Thune, a South Dakota Republican, would end a 45-cent-a-gallon ethanol blender tax credit and a 54-cent-a-gallon tariff on ethanol imports that are scheduled to expire Dec. 31. The lawmakers said the proposal, announced today, would reduce the federal budget deficit by $1.33 billion.
