Portland will soon begin handing out aluminum foil and straws to fentanyl smokers in the latest attempt at 'harm reduction' in the drug-ridden Oregon city. Officials with the Multnomah County Health Department confirmed the controversial plan to local outlets saying they will also hand out glass pipes and snorting kits. Health director Jessica Guernsey said they have seen a 'shift from injection drug use' and the new handouts will help to engage those who 'may not otherwise.' 'The new part of the program is that we're adding supplies for people who smoke drugs,' Guernsey said, citing that fentanyl is typically...

On January 18, 2023, the United States filed its Complaint and proposed Consent Decree to resolve allegations that Cumberland County, Tennessee violated Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act by denying a corrections officer a reasonable accommodation and constructively discharging him based on his disability of opioid use disorder. In addition, the County implemented a policy that prevents people who are taking legally prescribed controlled substances or certain medications from having those substances or medications present in their system while at work for the County, thus prohibiting working for the County while taking such medications. Under the Consent Decree,...

In the past, I've remarked to friends that the difference between a Jewish liberal and a Jewish conservative is that when a Jewish liberal walks out of the Holocaust Museum, he feels, "This shows why we need to have more tolerance and multiculturalism." The Jewish conservative feels, "We should have killed a lot more Nazis, and sooner." I thought of this as I read Peter Beinart's new essay, "The Failure of the American Jewish Establishment," which argues that "liberal Zionism" is in danger unless groups such as AIPAC start to take a more critical view of Israel's actions.

Hitler's Enabling Act On March 23, 1933, the newly elected members of the German Parliament (the Reichstag) met in the Kroll Opera House in Berlin to consider passing Hitler's Enabling Act. It was officially called the 'Law for Removing the Distress of the People and the Reich.' If passed, it would effectively mean the end of democracy in Germany and establish the legal dictatorship of Adolf Hitler. The 'distress' had been secretly caused by the Nazis themselves in order to create a crisis atmosphere that would make the law seem necessary to restore order. On February 27, 1933, they had...

Benefits 'destroying family life' By Sarah Womack, Social Affairs Correspondent Last Updated: 2:07am GMT 17/03/2007 Couples who pretend to live apart can gain up to £10,000 a year in benefits, according to a book published today. The sociologist and author Patricia Morgan says the scale of the fraud is the disastrous result of Government policy which discourages couples from marrying or even cohabiting, dealing a "devastating blow" to family life. Her book, published by the Institute of Economic Affairs, says the Government paid credits and benefits to 200,000 more lone parents than actually live in Britain in 2004-5. In extreme...

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania, August 16, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A Pennsylvania court has opened the door for men who believe they are women to come to work in a dress and to use the women’s restroom and shower facilities. The decision by the Commonwealth Court, which upheld a lower court ruling mandating that “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” be added to the Allentown (Pennsylvania) human relations ordinance, is being decried as an “outrage” by a traditional values group.According to the American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), this is not something that the majority of citizens in Allentown want and is...

Nothing is more emblematic of American democracy than the idea of one person standing up for his beliefs and in the process becoming the catalyst for a national debate. In the arena of civil rights, Rosa Parks' refusal to sit in the back of a Montgomery, Ala., bus was such an act. During the Vietnam War, Daniel Ellsberg's decision to give the media the Pentagon Papers detailing the secret history of U.S. involvement in Southeast Asia was another. Now Californian Cindy Sheehan's August vigil on a sweltering roadway near President Bush's Crawford ranch has given a human voice and face...

AT least six NSW teenagers are planning legal action to change their sex following a Family Court decision to allow a 13-year-old boy to become a girl. In an application supported by his parents, the Sydney boy recently won the court's permission to take puberty-blocking chemicals to stop developing an adult male's body. His lawyer, Rachael Wallbank, says the next step is to take oestrogen at 16 to feminise the body with the option of having sex-change surgery after turning 18. The case follows the Family Court's precedent-setting decision last year to allow a 13-year-old girl, "Alex", to become a...

On the second night of his New York crusade, evangelist Billy Graham got a little help from two friends - Bill and Hillary Clinton. The ex-President and New York's junior senator joined the crowd of 80,000 at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens, and were greeted like soul mates. The audience screamed as Bill Clinton took Graham's hand and spoke about previous revivals. "Hillary and I are honored to be here tonight ... 46-plus years after I attended my first Billy Graham crusade," Clinton said. "I took Hillary in 1971, and in 1979, when he came back to Arkansas, I was the...
