GREENWICH -- Democratic Senate candidate Ned Lamont's daughter, Emily, has gone out on the campaign trail for her dad and contributed more than $4,000, but the 19-year-old couldn't vote for him. Emily Lamont's vote in Tuesday's primary battle between her father and U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman was thrown out yesterday after the Democratic registrar of voters in the family's hometown, Greenwich, determined she was ineligible. "Her vote was rejected because she is not enrolled in a party," said Sharon Vecchiolla, Democratic registrar in Greenwich.

CANCUN, Mexico - A massive evacuation of tourists in one of the world's largest resorts began Sunday, as hundreds of buses were dispatched to move tens of thousands of tourists away from Hurricane Emily, heading toward a direct hit on the coast. ADVERTISEMENT The very size of the task was daunting: about 500 buses were ordered to move 30,000 tourists in Cancun — part of a total of 70,000 to 80,000 mostly foreign tourists to be evacuated statewide to temporary shelters in ballrooms and convention centers. "We have very little hope that this will change course," said a grim-faced Cancun...

FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas (Army News Service, July 20, 2005) -- Hurricane Emily came ashore July 20 but wasn’t packing the wallop residents and tourists of the South Texas shore area originally expected. While the South Padre Islands still took a beating with high winds and heavy rain, it was not enough of a blow for any of the 126 supply-laden trucks poised at a staging area at Fort Sam Houston to pull out and head south. The trucks, loaded with everything from water and food to cots and generators, packed the field on Wilson Street Sunday night as part...

Undocumented Honduran group reaches Brownsville, turns toward New Jersey — They were drenched from head to toe and shivering under the awning of a McDonald’s as Hurricane Emily dumped cold rain around them, but the group of seven decided they needed to get moving. They crossed Brownsville’s International Boulevard, which had been emptied of its usual Wednesday morning traffic, and filed past out-of-town reporters and city workers who were clearing a fallen palm tree. Nobody seemed to pay attention to the seven undocumented Honduran immigrants who had just swum across the Rio Grande with hopes of reaching relatives and jobs...

CARBONERA, Mexico (AP) - 0720dv-emily Hurricane Emily slammed into northeastern Mexico with 125 mph winds Wednesday, knocking out power, pelting beaches with heavy rain and forcing thousands along the Gulf of Mexico to seek safer ground. The eye of the Category 3 storm came ashore before dawn near San Fernando, about 75 miles south of the U.S.-Mexico border. Forecasters predicted the storm could dump up to 15 inches of rain as it moves inland over the mountains, causing flash floods and landslides. Emily weakened as it moved west during the day, with its maximum sustained winds down to 105 mph....

Going out on a limb here But I'd say Texas Freeper living along the gulf coast better start getting ready for Emily. I asked the tropical strom posters to ping me if a cane was comming to galveston. They said they did not have a Texas hurricane ping list, well look like it is time to start one cause Emily is commin a callin. Been a while since a major cane hit upper Texas coast, but this looks like our year.

ANOTHER year has passed but Dorry Tompsett's sense of loss is no lighter than it was on September 11, 2001. Speaking on the eve of the second anniversary, Mrs Tompsett talks of "the Tuesday" on which her husband, Australian expatriate Stephen Tompsett, died in the Twin Towers. Mrs Tompsett and her daughter Emily, 11, have just returned from grief counselling, which they began on the Friday after the attacks and have continued - twice a week at first, now once a week. Mrs Tompsett took her daughter to Ground Zero for the first time last year. This year, Emily will...
