LAREDO - Bringing confetti-filled Easter eggs over the border could bring fines of up to $1,000 and up to $50,000 for commercial importation, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said Thursday. Known as cascarones, the eggs are a popular Mexican border tradition. The eggs' insides are drained from the shells, which are painted, refilled with bright shreds of paper and broken during Easter celebrations. While they can be bought more cheaply on the Mexican side of the border, officials warn they may carry a deadly bird flu.
