  • What Is The Best Shortwave Radio (multi-band) On A Budget? (vanity)

I had a great multi-band radio a few years ago and would love to get one again. It was great listening to it at night. Loved the 'numbers stations' (and would LOVE to hear theories about them!). They were sooooooo creepy. I like analog receivers. I know their outdated......but easier to tune. I'm looking in the $150 range and under. Don't want to spend much as we have a lot of expenses coming up.
  • Doctor opening new late-term abortion clinics in D.C. area, Iowa

A Nebraska doctor who is one of the few in the country to perform abortions late in a pregnancy said Wednesday that he would open new clinics in Iowa and the Washington area. LeRoy Carhart said he decided to open the clinics because Nebraska had implemented a new law that made it illegal to perform abortions beyond the 20th week of a pregnancy. Only a handful of doctors perform abortions in late pregnancy, and Carhart has been the target of antiabortion protests. George Tiller, who was one of the few doctors who were public, was fatally shot by an antiabortion...

Posted on Sun, Jun. 01, 2008 A boy's passport to the world Six-year-old Cameron Hasson's world just got a little larger. The amateur radio license he recently earned puts him in touch with folks from all over. He's a bona fide “ham” – probably the youngest in North Carolina and maybe the U.S., according to his instructor, Joe Hullender with the Gastonia Area Amateur Radio Club. All that talk going on out in radio land – endless conversations about the weather and gas prices and whatever – Cameron takes it all in. The world has opened up. He feels more...

C.Q. C.Q. all ham radio operators, short wave listeners, public service monitors and anyone interested in the subject. I’m announcing my wish to revive the Ham Radio ping list. A lost Freeper (Denver Ditdat) had the list at one time, but with his absence for almost two years, and his freepmail to me that he had lost most of the original list, I think that the ping list should be built again. There is a large population of Freepers who are hams. My wish in resurrecting this ping list is to once again bring news pertaining to all FReepers, hams...

  • Lean and mean International broadcasting tightens its belt

I found it rather ironic that, on the very day of President Bush's State of the Union address, in which he said that the US is "addicted to oil", we learned that US government international broadcasts are cutting about 90,000 transmitter hours per year. High-powered international broadcast transmitters need a lot of fuel, and in most cases it's oil. The two are not directly connected, of course, but it's a coincidence that reminds us just how energy-inefficient broadcasting, and especially international broadcasting, can be. I was a shortwave listener and DXer for many years before coming to work at Radio...
  • PLEASE! STOP POSTING SAME MESSAGE ON ALL BOARDS!

The purpose of FreeRepublic.com's multiple message boards is to limit the topics for each board to particular topics. Posting the same message on all the boards defeats the purpose of multiple-boards for special topics. It is very annoying to see the same message on every bulletin board. PLEASE! DO THE READERS A FAVOR. STOP CROSS-POSTING YOUR MESSAGES!

A lot of people are to blame for the butchery of 40 million unborn American babies over the past 30 years since the a majority of the members of the U.S. Supreme Court took leave of their senses and declared that it was just fine and dandy for women to snuff out the lives of the tots in their wombs. For 30 years, 40 million unborn babies have been wantonly chopped up in tiny pieces, had their brains sucked out, been vacuumed from their mother's wombs, been scalded to death, and had their body parts marketed like meat in a...
