Global Warming Tax   Duke Energy, a leading U.S. electricity and gas utility, announced this week its support for a global warming tax () — essentially a consumption tax on consumers of gasoline, oil, natural gas and coal. The tax is intended to reduce energy use and resulting emissions of greenhouse gases. Duke calls it a “carbon tax,” but we might call it the “Greenpeace tax” in honor of the various radical environmental groups, like Greenpeace (), pushing global warming hysteria and supporting such a tax. But we could also call it the “corporate appeasement tax” in honor of businesses...

In what may be the first step of its kind by a major energy company, Duke Energy Chairman and CEO Paul Anderson Thursday said he believes a mandatory “economywide” federal tax on carbon is needed to slow the impact of climate change. Speaking at a breakfast in Charlotte, N.C., sponsored by the Charlotte Business Journal, Anderson said Duke “has long supported voluntary measures to reduce greenhouse gases. But it’s clear to me now that we have to move mandatory measures to get real results in a fair manner.” “I believe U.S. public policy on global climate change should encourage a...

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Duke Energy Corp. will lobby for a tax on carbon dioxide emissions that would reduce fossil fuel consumption and begin addressing the global warming problem, the company's chairman and chief executive said Thursday. "Personally, I feel the time has come to act -- to take steps as a nation to reduce the carbon intensity of our economy," Paul Anderson told several hundred Charlotte business and civil leaders at a breakfast meeting. "And it's going to take all of us to do it." Anderson acknowledged a national carbon tax would mean bigger utility bills and higher prices at...

A story has already been posted about an explosion in a natural gas storage area,in Moss Bluff,Liberty County,Tx-about 40 miles NE of Houston. Blast seems to have happened about 4:15AM today, and is still burning (remainder of gas in the particular storage "cell"). Since an al-Qaeda operative nicknamed "Jafar the Pilot",who was trained in explosives-some of the training involving natural gas-MIGHT be passing through Texas about this time,my interest is piqued. How about it ? Any engineers out there familiar with the type of storage, frequency of mishaps, etc ? Is this more likely to have been an accident ? Your comments...
