The American rock and roll artist was best known for his songs Ain't That A Shame and Blueberry Hill. The New Orleans singer sold more than 65 million records, outselling every 1950s rock and roll act except Elvis Presley. His million-selling debut single, The Fat Man, is credited by some as the first ever rock and roll record.

Fats Domino, who sang such hits as "Ain't That A Shame" and "Blueberry Hill," died Tuesday, the coroner's office said. He was 89. At least in appearance, Domino was no Elvis Presley. He stood 5-feet-5 and weighed more than 200 pounds (91 kilograms), with a wide, boyish smile and a haircut as flat as an album cover.

TThe quest for the perfect selfie at a pop-up gallery in Los Angeles known for its Instagram-friendly art took a disastrous turn recently, and it came with a steep price. The calamitous scene unfolded when an unidentified woman crouched for a selfie in front of a row of crowns displayed individually on pedestals and fell backward, triggering an unstoppable domino effect in a room described by the gallery as “a serene space.” A video, posted on YouTube Thursday, captured the mishap at the 14th Factory as each pedestal fell onto the next. Simon Birch, a British-born, Hong Kong-based artist who...

NEW ORLEANS - There will be no more Domino's deliveries in the Lower 9th Ward after dark.It is one of the changes the pizza company is making after another one of its drivers was murdered in the Lower 9th Ward while on the job, but residents and one city leader say the policy change is a knee-jerk reaction that is singling out their community."It just, again, puts a black eye on this community," said Vanessa Gueringer, a life-long resident of the Lower 9th Ward.Michael Price, a 36-year-old father of three, is the second Domino's delivery driver murdered on the job...

After the gathering, some youths threw stones at the local headquarters of Masud Barzani’s Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP). From within the building, KDP officials shot into the crowd, killing five and injuring at least 15.

The protests in Egypt have prompted renewed questions about the U.S.'s aid to the country -- an issue that the U.S. government has also pledged to reconsider. We've taken a step back and tried to answer some basic questions, such as how as much the U.S. has given, who has benefited, and who gets to decide how its all spent. How much does the U.S. spend on Egypt? Egypt gets the most U.S. foreign aid of any country except for Israel. (This doesn't include the money spent on the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.) The amount varies each year and there...

The euro dropped sharply after Spain's rescue of a small, failing savings bank over the weekend revived concerns about the euro-zone economy. After strengthening last week as investors unwound trades against the euro, the common currency is starting the week with traders again piling on anti-euro bets. "An immediate slump leaves the onlooker with the impression that [the euro] may well have fallen out of the wrong side of the bed after a well-deserved nap after a four-year low last week," said Andrew Wilkinson, senior market analyst at Interactive Brokers in Greenwich, Conn. The euro recently was at $1.2371 from...

White House officials who fired whistleblower Gerald Walpin last week have sparked a series of investigations that pose both political and policy threats to the Obama administration. Describing the probe into the dismissal of the AmeriCorps inspector general Gerald Walpin, one Capitol Hill source on Thursday compared Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley’s demand for facts in the case to a row of dominoes ready to tip over. Grassley is asking questions, a team of Senate investigators is poring over documents in the case, and where the investigation proceeds now “depends on what dominoes fall next,” explained the source, who spoke on...

California's financial free fall is likely to get much worse before it gets better, spreading from the statehouse to every other level of government, including schools, cities, counties and the special districts that fight fires, maintain parks and levees and run libraries. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and state lawmakers are already grappling with an expected drop in revenue from taxes on personal income, sales and corporate profits. Since they adopted the budget in September, the state's revenue estimate for the current year has dropped by $11 billion, or about 10 percent, with no prospect for a recovery in sight. But that...

    N. Korea Nuke Test Would Pose Challenges By TOM RAUM, Associated Press Writer 2 hours, 10 minutes ago WASHINGTON - A nuclear weapons test by North Korea would reverberate around the world, altering the nuclear balance in Asia and posing stark new challenges for U.S. policy-makers and military planners. Yet, it could also induce China, Russia and other powers to join the United States in seeking U.N.-approved penalties against the hard-line communist country, analysts and diplomats suggest. With U.S. officials increasingly concerned that North Korea may conduct a test soon, how would Washington respond?First, the Bush administration probably would try to...
