WASHINGTON (AP) -- The White House says President Barack Obama has invited House Democratic leaders to dinner Wednesday at a hotel near the White House. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California will attend the private dinner, along with the No. 2 and No. 3 Democrats in the House, congressmen Steny Hoyer of Maryland and James Clyburn of South Carolina. The top Democrat on the House Budget Committee, Maryland's Chris Van Hollen, will be there, plus the chair of the House Democrat's campaign arm, Steve Israel of New York.

Well, this is awkward. A man was having a spat with his girlfriend at an Olive Garden in Charlotte, NC on Sunday night when he decided to resolve the matter in the utmost mature manner: defiantly building a fort of menus to shield his face from his girlfriend. Fellow diner Adam Howell caught the incident on his camera phone, tweeting it out to his 650 followers, and the photo soon went viral. "A grown ass man is mad at his girlfriend at Olive Garden & has made a menu fort," he wrote, later updating his Twitter audience that the waitress...

Talk about an odd couple. Liberal media mogul Arianna Huffington is bringing GOP star Gov. Chris Christie to the White House Correspondents' dinner later this month. The governor will feel at home with the Huffington Post founder's other guests: New Jersey natives Jon Bon Jovi of Sayreville and Shaquille O'Neal of Newark, according to Women's Wear Daily, which first reported the invites. Shaq recently visited Christie at the Statehouse in Trenton.

Gov. Chris Christie got the seat of honor at tonight’s annual governor’s dinner, sitting next to first lady Michelle Obama. The New Jersey governor, a Republican, joined governors from across the nation at the annual Governor’s Association Meeting, and at one point, clinked glasses with the president’s wife. Mr Obama had praised Gov. Christie for his response to Hurricane Sandy and his effort to get funding to those who were most affected by last October’s storm.

Tonight was the annual Alfred E. Smith Dinner where the candidates take a humorous break from the campaign trail. But I gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised at how funny Romney was as he delivered line after line, mostly about the president. In fact he landed some pretty hard blows on the president, namely one where in using the Sesame Street reference he said that President Obama’s remarks “are brought to you by the letter O and the number 16 Trillion.” Ouch! And there’s a lot more where that came from. My bet is that even though it was all...

Obama's good pal Rashid Khalidi raised money for the venture. In 2008 The LA Times withheld a video that contained footage of Barack Obama celebrating with a group of Palestinians who were openly hostile towards Israel. Barack Obama reportedly even gave a toast to a former PLO operative, Rashid Khalidi, at this celebration. This was something the LA Times hid from the American public before the election. The media refused to release the video. Terrorist Bill Ayers, Barack Obama and his good friend Jew-hater Rashid Khalidi There were also reports that terrorists Bill Ayers and his wife Bernadine Dohrn were...

The valiant Judie Brown, founder of the American Life League and America's foremost and uncompromising champion of life, has posted an open letter to His Eminence Timothy, Cardinal Dolan. Once again, the American Episcopacy has put institutional interests ahead of what is moral and good. We have no interest in their views on the Farm Bill, trade policies or continuing budget resolutions. We do, however, expect them to speak with clarity and consistency on the great moral issues of our day. It seems Cardinal Dolan, like so many before him, would rather be a political player than a moral force...

For sure, Cardinal Dolan has been the outspoken champion of the Church's rights and the rights of individuals to practice their religion in public free from coercive immoral mandates. For this and by virtue of his position in the Church, he rightly deserves our praise, respect, and a fair amount of trust. Cardinal Dolan, We trust you. I trust you. But I also have a warning for you. You wrote about what the perception would be if you refused to meet with the President saying "And, in the current climate, we bishops have maintained that we are open to dialogue...

When it involves the fabled Al Smith Dinner in New York, all you have to do is invite President Obama: By tradition, the storied Al Smith Dinner has provided a few hours of comic relief from the angry volleys of the campaign trail — a white-tie charity banquet held in the weeks before Election Day, hosted by the archbishop of New York and featuring speeches by the two presidential candidates on the condition that they lob nothing more than good-natured jibes. But the Catholic hierarchy’s fierce feud with President Obama, abetted by the increasingly sharp tone of the 2012 elections, is...

One of the great things about being a nature lover is that your powers of observation seem to improve. While others are walking by, oblivious to the activities going on all around them, naturalists notice the creatures and the behaviors, especially if they are out of the ordinary. Such was the case on March 24, 2012, a sunny Saturday morning, when Ginger Morneau, her husband Ken, and brother Lou Baker were walking along the Ogden Point Breakwater in Victoria, BC. The breakwater is a favourite spot for locals and visitors, reaching out about a half mile from the waterfront south...

Obama fundraises at BET chair’s homeBy LEIGH MUNSIL | 4/27/12 8:44 PM EDT President Barack Obama attended a fundraiser Friday night at the home of Debra Lee, chairwoman and CEO of BET. About 40 people attended the $40,000-a-plate dinner in D.C.’s Woodley Park neighborhood. During his remarks, the president gave a nod to some of the acrimony toward Washington among the American people. "[T]hings are tough, and they've grown cynical, and they see the mess that goes on in Washington and there's a temptation at a certain point to just say, 'Oh, a plague on both their houses; nothing is...

What did Velociraptor have for dinner? Raptor skeleton discovered with bones in its gut If you lie awake at night wondering Velociraptor's favorite food was (and whether it tastes much like human flesh), you're in luck. For the first time, a Velociraptor skeleton has been observed with its last supper still filling its guts, and this little guy feasted on long-dead pterosaur. Paleontologist David Hone has published a new paper describing his findings in Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology, but for those who don't want to breach the paywall, he's also explaining them on his blog. This especially well preserved specimen was...

A free meal at school for breakfast, lunch — and dinner? About 450 city students have been eating supper in school cafeterias as part of a government-funded meal program that may expand in Hartford and also to other Connecticut school systems this year. The U.S. Department of Agriculture gives schools about $2.99 per dinner to serve students in after-school activities that involve academics.

There will definitely be a lot of gobbling when this turkey lands on the table... because it weighs an incredible four stone (56lb) and is set to feed 50. Weighing as much as an eight-year-old child, the jumbo Stag Turkey is 2ft wide and has been reared at Carr House Farm, in Ottingham, East Yorkshire. The super birds are so large, they will not fit in a conventional oven and are normally destined for large catering kitchens in hotels and restaurants.
