CARY, N.C. - The 20-year-old son of a North Carolina Court of Appeals judge threatened to damage a synagogue Saturday night and burned a cross in a town park last month, according to Cary police. William Josephus Warden of Cary was arrested about 11 p.m. Saturday at the apartment complex where he lives on Preston Grove Avenue. He is the son of Judge Lucy Inman, who said in a statement that the arrest can be attributed to long-standing mental illness for which her son has sought treatment. "Our observations and our communications with law enforcement lead us to believe that...

I am thinking that it's pretty much simply a matter of time before some lamewad reporter from the NYSlimes or the LASlimes with too much time on his hands asks John McCain his opinion regarding Edwards straying feet.

POLICE in New York have arrested more than 560 protesters after demonstrations outside the Republican convention turned wild. Demonstrators and an entire midtown Manhattan block were wrapped in orange netting in a bid to control the anti-Republican activists who massed in the streets for marches to the site of the convention. Outside the New York Public Library, in the streets near the famed Herald Square and at the site of the fallen World Trade Centre, demonstrators pointed themselves toward Madison Square Garden and promised to get their message across that they want President George W. Bush out of office. By...

NEW YORK--The line to get into last night's Michael Reagan party at Manhattan's Gotham Hall ended on Sixth Avenue and snaked around West 36th Street to the erstwhile bank building's entrance on Broadway. Even though we hate waiting in lines, we decided to endure this one, for it seemed to be moving fairly quickly. We waited along with John Barnes, Karen Furey and Wally Olson, and some protesters treated us to a show. A guy on a bicycle stood just off the Sixth Avenue curb, wearing a T-shirt that said "F--- Bush" (except there was an actual obscenity in place...

NEW YORK (AP) - To the protesters, it's Guantanamo on the Hudson. Police prefer the acronym PASS, though nobody gets one. Either way, the dilapidated, hulking pier on the Hudson River in Manhattan has become a landmark of sorts in the clash between activists and authorities at the Republican National Convention. Some protesters have complained bitterly about conditions at the temporary holding area set up at Pier 57 for processing convention-related arrests. One former detainee, Andrew Lynn, claimed he was held there for hours on end in "Guantanamo-style pens" - a reference to the U.S. military facility in Guantanamo Bay,...

protesters...the vast majority of them, creative packaging aside, protest the same thing: a war most believe was necessary, and Republicans in general, reverting as necessary to the vacuous, and age-old slander that Republicans at best intolerant to, and at worst hate: minorities, women, gays, the “international community,” clean water, clean air, schools, unions, “the accused,” etc.; and are beholden to: wealthy corporations, polluters, white men, the military, police and fire departments (except as part of unions), Halliburton, etc.

I just heard on WABC radio a clip of a reporter interviewing a New York restaurant owner in New York who said the protestors better not come in because they would not be welcome. The reporter seemed taken aback by this.

Activists donned pig snouts, climbed trees and targeted Fox News Channel in protests across Manhattan on Tuesday as police arrested 260 people during a day of civil disobedience aimed at the Republican convention. Officers encircled scores of demonstrators with orange netting during a protest near the former site of the World Trade Center. Detained protesters were loaded onto an off-duty city bus, and police put the count at about 200. The demonstrators insisted they were following police orders. The protest's 500 demonstrators, a group called the War Resisters League, said they were staging a "death march" from Ground Zero to...

NEW YORK - A man was arrested following a struggle with Secret Service agents after entering a restricted area near Vice President Dick Cheney at the Republican convention and making anti-war statements. Cheney never was in any danger, law enforcement officials said Tuesday. The incident occurred at about 9:20 p.m. Monday, as Cheney sat with his wife, Lynne, in a box off the convention floor at Madison Square Garden. According to law enforcement officials who spoke on condition of anonymity, the unidentified man was dressed like a convention volunteer and got close enough to Cheney's box to make some anti-war...

New Yorker sees real hatred: "protesters' signs likened President Bush to: Hitler, Satan, genitalia, terrorists, monkeys, Alfred E. Neuman, Mickey Mouse, donkeys, flatulent elephants, rabid donkeys, the KKK, Jesus Christ (this was patently obscene), and Ronald Reagan (thus, transitively, Satan again). The signs suggested Bush should go to hell, Texas, Maine, or anywhere, just get the "eff" out of New York."

Suspicious package also reported at 48th st. requesting police backup.. not known if this is a part of the protest to stretch law enforcement resources

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A Yale University student was charged on Tuesday with assaulting Secret Service agents as he tried to climb into Vice President Dick Cheney's box seat at the Republican National Convention. Thomas Frampton, shouting anti-war statements, came within 10 feet of Cheney before he was wrestled to the ground and handcuffed by Secret Service agents on the opening night of the convention on Monday, according to court papers. Frampton, 21, posing as a volunteer at the convention, faces misdemeanor charges of assaulting federal officers and impeding the operation of the Secret Service. His attorney said the student...
