BAGHDAD: A Jordanian extremist suspected of bloody suicide attacks in Iraq was killed some time ago in U.S. bombing and a letter outlining plans for fomenting sectarian war is a forgery, a statement allegedly from an insurgent group west of the capital said. Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was killed in the Sulaimaniyah mountains of northern Iraq "during the American bombing there," according to a statement circulated in Fallujah this week and signed by the "Leadership of the Allahu Akbar Mujahedeen." There was no way to verify the authenticity of the statement, one of many leaflets put out by a variety of...

  • Zarqawi is Dead, Alive or ?

I have seen numerous post that “the” or “a” top aide to Zarqawi has been killed over the last three years. I remember at least four different times. But something is not right. We found Sadaam and his sons but we can’t find Zarqawi or Bin Laden. Of the big three (Sadaam, Bin Laden and Zarq), I think Bin Laden would be the hardest to find and that appears to be right. Sadaam was found because he was not “sponsored” by (protected) another country. Bin Laden is either in Iran or less likely in Pakistan they say. Who knows but...

Baghdad, 2 June (AKI) - The Jordanian militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi - al-Qaeda's leader in Iraq - died on Friday and his body is in Fallujah's cemetary, an Iraqi Sunni sheikh, Ammar Abdel Rahim Nasir, has told the Saudi on-line newspaper Al-Medina. He claims that gunfights which broke out in Fallujah in the last few days involved militants trying to protect the insurgency leader's tomb from a group of American soldiers patrolling the area. During a telephone conversation from the city of Fallujah with the Saudi newspaper, Nasir said al-Zarqawi was taken there after being injured in the city of...

Al-Qaida's leader in Iraq Abu Musab al-Zarqawi is dead but Washington continues to use him as a bogeyman to justify a prolonged military occupation, an Iraqi Shia cleric says in an interview. Sheikh Jawad al-Kalesi, the imam of the al-Kazemiya mosque in Baghdad, told France's Le Monde newspaper on Friday: "I don't think that Abu Musab al-Zarqawi exists as such. He's simply an invention by the occupiers to divide the people." Al-Kalesi claimed that al-Zarqawi was killed in the Kurdish northern region of Iraq at the beginning of the US-led war on the country as he was meeting with members...

Judgment Day? Is the end here...or near...for Zarqawi? Is Abu Musab al Zarqawi dead? Has he finally cashed it in for the 72 maidens, going out in a blaze of gunfire and explosives at a not-so-safe house in Mosul? Some reports said yes, the White House doubts it, and investigators are combing through the rubble looking for evidence. If ever there was a time you'd wish the White House was wrong about something, this is it. The origins of the story of Zarqawi's demise do not give one encouragement. Early on November 20 the "Islammemo" website ran a news story...
