WASHINGTON (ABC7) — A man who was staying at the Trump Hotel in Northwest Washington was arrested early Wednesday morning after guns were found inside his car, D.C. police report. Police say 43-year-old Bryan Moles of Edinboro, Pennsylvania left a gun in plain view inside his car. After searching the vehicle, authorities say they also located another gun in the glove compartment and 90 rounds of ammo. A law enforcement official tells ABC News that Moles told someone about the guns in his car and that person alerted police. Moles reportedly told police he is a military veteran and suffers...
  • Instead of draining the swamp, Team Trump is filling it

Drain the swamp? Don't be ridiculous. The swamp in Washington (Swamp City) will drain President Donald Trump before he drains it. On that you can rely. The number of lobbyists and special interests in Swamp City under Trump has gotten larger, not smaller.

Instead of trying to help reach consensus with traditional protest, they tried intimidating the opposition ... The mob that just muscled their way into the lobby of the Heritage Foundation must have missed Obama's lecture. When those partisans pushed past security onto private property, they signaled that the liberal resistance has given up on unity. Quite simply, division is the new goal. More than a tantrum, this is a significant shift in the direction of the reiterating protests that have continued non-stop since Trump took office ... Around 200 protestors flooded into Heritage's Capitol Hill headquarters an hour before noon...

As I retire, I want to devote my last column to travelers who wrote in to discuss their tips and travails. Some wanted to get something fixed. Some just wanted to vent. All were welcome. Dear Dr. Gridlock: I’m not a commuter, but I have a real gridlock problem. When people in a left lane don’t pull up to the vehicle in front of them, they block the ability of people trying to turn left from accessing the left-turn lane. I can’t even count how many times I’ve missed the left green arrow because of this. It seems that if...
  • Trump budget plan would deal blow to Washington region’s transit; Purple Line at risk

Federal funding for Maryland’s Purple Line is in jeopardy, as are Metro’s hopes for a significant increase in money from the government under President Trump’s proposed 2018 budget released Thursday. Trump’s proposed spending plan, which slashes the federal transportation budget by 13 percent, also curbs long-distance Amtrak service out of Washington and cuts millions in federal grants that the region’s governments have relied on for new rapid bus lines, road work, bus stop improvements and bike paths. The cuts came as a shock to many, considering Trump’s campaign pledge to pump $1 trillion into the nation’s crumbling infrastructure. “I find...

On March 20, 2017, George Washington University student Aidan Johnston went undercover and attended the 2017 People’s Climate March planning meeting. The March is scheduled for Saturday, April 29 in Washington D.C. “We wanted to see if this meeting was really about climate change and protecting the environment, or if it was actually about bringing down capitalism and advocating socialism,” said Johnston. “I had no idea that it was going to turn into advocating for violence.” Reverend Graylan Halger of Plymouth UCC Church in Washington D.C. took to the microphone, called out “greedy” billionaires and the fallacies of capitalism,...
  • Turkish $100m Mosque in D.C. as Turkish Intel Spied From Mosques Across Europe

One year ago today, Turkish President Recep Erdogan was in the Washington, D.C. area to open a new $100 million mosque complex funded by the Turkish government and operated by the Diyanet, Turkey's religious affairs ministry. Needless to say, the opening of the Diyanet complex received international media attention: But on the one-year anniversary of the opening of the Diyanet Center of America, questions about its true purpose are being raised. There are ongoing investigations by European officials into widespread spying allegations implicating Turkish government-funded Diyanet mosques across the continent. The investigations center on whether the mosques are spying on...
  • Trump's budget could plunge nation's capital into recession

While many of the targeted federal agencies have offices outside Washington, Trump's dream budget would hit the region disproportionately, with tens of thousands of jobs at risk. The cuts would be felt throughout the city, with fewer people riding the already-beleaguered Metro subway or eating at restaurants. It would also hurt Washington's already-shaky market for office space. Economist Stephen Fuller of George Mason University, who has studied the regional economy for decades, estimated 20,000-24,000 federal employees and 10,000 federal contractors would lose their jobs under Trump's proposal. That equates to 5 percent of federal workers in the region. With those...

WASHINGTON - FOX 5 was the first to report D.C. police were tweeting about an unusually high number of missing children. According to city officials, there is not an uptick in missing persons cases, but community members remain frustrated. On Wednesday night, a town hall-style meeting was held at Excel Academy Public Charter School in Southeast D.C., which was hosted by Ward 8 Councilmember Trayon White. Hundreds of people packed the room for this meeting while there were many others who could not even get in the door. The heart of this forum – what is going on and what...

Every once in a while — and perhaps especially now, if we’re really going to talk about a trillion-dollar infrastructure program — we need to revisit the basics: “This is probably a column-length question, but what are the solutions to traffic congestion in the D.C. region?” That reasonable question came in during the midst of last Monday’s online discussion about whether traffic conditions would be improved if everyone just went faster. (In fact, we would not all be better off if you’d just go as fast as the driver behind you wants.) What are we really hoping to achieve when...

Ex-WTOP anchor remembers 1977 terrorist siege in DCWASHINGTON — Forty years ago this week, armed terrorists stormed three D.C. buildings and took nearly 150 people hostage. To commemorate the anniversary of the three-day Hanafi siege, a photo exhibit is currently on display at the Wilson Building. Veiled Begum Khadyja, left, wife of the Hanafi Muslim sect leader, Hamaas Abdul Khaalis, reads a statement to reporters in Washington on Thrusday, March 17,1977 in answer to a statement made by Rabbi Meir Kahane of the Jewish Defense League. Will be taking a 4-day trip to DC this summer. Any recommendations on what to see and where to eat? We lucked up on a good hotel (normally $600 a night for $100 two blocks from the Whitehouse.) Have already contacted our Senator about getting approval to tour. I'll sit back and enjoy (while writing things down.) Also tell me what to avoid. Thanks!

That’s nice, but it can’t begin to compete with a Valentine’s Day letter written by some D.C. fourth-graders and sent to the Washington Post. Fact-checker Michelle Ye Hee Lee posted it on Facebook, explaining that the young students wanted it to “go to journalists.”

If you’re a liberal these days, you may have trouble keeping up with all of the new actions coming out of the Trump White House which enrage you. If you’re a conservative you’ve probably already lost track of the number of things the liberals are marching, protesting about, condemning and boycotting. On that last point you can now add one more to the list. The evil ownership of Taylor Gourmet, a local chain of hoagie shops around the Beltway, has gone too far and drawn the ire of progressive activists. (For those of you from other parts of the country,...
