An unnamed White House official released this statement on the shooting at the Navy Yard in Washington, D.C.: "The President has been briefed several times about the unfolding situation at the Washington Navy Yard by Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Lisa Monaco and Deputy Chief of Staff Alyssa Mastromanaco. The President directed his team to stay in touch with our federal partners, including the Navy and FBI, as well as the local officials. We urge citizens to listen to the authorities and follow directions from the first responders on site."

Police say four people and one officer have been shot at the Washington Navy Yard on Monday morning. Police are looking for the shooter. He is described as a black male with a dark complexion, approximately 5'10" to 6 feet tall, 170 pound with a black shirt and black hat, according to CBS affiliate WUSA. He is believed to be barricaded somewhere and have multiple guns.

Several thousand bikers are set to descend on the District today as part of a ride meant to honor those who died on September 11th, 2001, despite not being granted a request for a no-stop permit and police escorts. The group behind the ride, called 2 Million Bikers to D.C., requested police escorts and to have several streets around the District blocked so that they could ride through red lights and pedestrian crossings.
