When paramedics found 8-year-old Gizell Davis on the floor of her bedridden father's blood-spattered room, they saw wounds arching across her cold body, according to Cook County prosecutors. Davis' grandmother was charged soon after with the strangulation and beating that left Davis dead in her family's South Austin home July 12. On Monday, a Cook County sheriff's deputy pushed the girl's gaunt father into court in a wheelchair to face first-degree murder charges of his own.
