A couple of weeks ago, I received the expected rejection from the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma on my application to attend their "workshop for journalists on covering guns and gun violence".   I expected it because it is clear that the "workshop" has become a mere exercise in producing disarmist propaganda, rather than an objective effort designed to help journalists get their facts right on events involving guns.  To giver credit where due,  Bruce Shapiro, Director at Dart, is unfailingly polite in the rejection email. For a short period, it seemed that there might be hope of balance,...

The Dart Center in Phoenix is holding a "workshop for journalists on covering guns and gun violence".  It is funded from a grant by the Michael Bloomber organization, "Everytown for Gun Safety", a gun control front group.  I sent a two emails to the Dart Center contact about the workshop.  I was ignored, so I started digging for myself. One of the things that I found was a draft list of speakers for the workshop.  It was clear that the list is a work in progress, so I decided to assist the Dart Center with some obvious suggestions.   The...

The above is a screenshot from the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma's call for applications from journalists to attend a "workshop for journalists on covering guns and gun violence". It is from the dartcenter.org website, so you can look for yourself. The workshop specifically includes an invitation for bloggers to apply. From DART: To help journalists and news organizations in the Southwest improve their reporting on guns and gun violence, the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma at Columbia Journalism School is organizing a two-day regional workshop May 29 and 30, 2015 for reporters, editors, news directors, photographers,...

The Dart Center for Journalism & Trauma has accepted money from the highly partisan Everytown for Gun Safety to put on a two day seminar on covering guns and gun violence.  They have already been criticized for creating a propaganda vehicle using money supplied by Michael Bloomberg.   As their article includes the sensationalist and discredited claim that there have been "nearly 100 school shootings"  since Sandy Hook, it is hard to consider them unbiased.   Nonetheless, I sent the point of contact an email asking that she include voices with assumptions other than that of Michael Bloomberg.  Here is...
