The New York Daily News is demonstrating that PDA's (Palin Derangement Awards) just never go out of style - celebrating yet another triumph in liberal media condescension by judging Sarah Palin to be one of 2009's worst celebrity parents. Palin shares the limelight with the selfless and humble parents of the balloon boy, David Hasselhoff, the Pez dispenser emulating Octomom, and Courtney Love. Having recently secured Politifact's ‘Lie of the Year', in which one is seemingly bestowed the honor of liar simply for pointing out obvious questions involving a so-called ‘death panel' known as the Independent Medicare Advisory Board -...

Daily News publisher is spending a mint to remake the paper. Wait till you hear his plan to save the rest of the industry Mortimer Zuckerman is chairman and co-founder of publicly traded Boston Properties, editor in chief of U.S. News and World Report and publisher of the Daily News. A Harvard Law grad, he's a fixture on Sunday talk shows like The McLaughlin Group. Off-air, he's often mid-air: Zuckerman traveled to Tangier in early August to attend events commemorating the 10-year rule of Morroco's King Mohammed VI. Zuckerman, with an estimated net worth of $2.8 billion, spoke to Forbes...

Philadelphia Newspapers L.L.C., which owns The Inquirer, the Philadelphia Daily News, and Philly.com, filed for bankruptcy protection today in a bid to restructure its $390 million in debt load. The company, bought by a group of Philadelphia-area investors for $562 million in 2006, said the voluntary Chapter 11 filing would not interrupt its daily operations.

Rupert Murdoch, whose News Corporation owns The New York Post, and Mortimer B. Zuckerman, the real estate developer and owner of The Daily News, who for years have been bitter tabloid competitors, are considering the unthinkable: cooperation. Representatives of Mr. Zuckerman and Mr. Murdoch have been in discussions for several weeks to find ways to combine some business functions of The Daily News and The Post, according to people briefed on the matter. They spoke anonymously because the talks are at a sensitive stage and both sides had hoped they would remain confidential. Talks between the two papers began in...

I'm sure you've all heard of the recent scandal in New York where the Governor (Eliot Spitzer, Democrat) was caught up in a call girl ring, but there was another scandal before that in which the Governor's political rival, State Senate majority leader Joe Bruno (Republican) found out that Governor Spitzer was using the State Police to spy on him: "I've been in government 31 years and I've never experienced anything like this," said Bruno. "I was stunned to learn Governor Spitzer is using the fine men and women of the New York State Police to conduct surveillance on me,"...

Rudy Giuliani's fundraising may not be presidential yet, but his campaign's seat-of-the-pants media manipulation—another requirement for contenders—is looking pretty good. The result: Giuliani grabbed the front pages of two New York City tabloids on the same day by giving one paper's scoop to the other. On March 23, both the Post and Daily News splashed on their front pages a revelation about Rudy's wife No. 2, the former Judi Nathan. Her revelation? Rudy is not her husband No. 2 but is really her third. Such news would likely hurt Giuliani only among religious conservatives, and they don't like his gay-people-accepting,...

NEW YORK Embroiled in difficult negotiations with the new owners of the two Philadelphia dailies, the Newspaper Guild of Greater Philadelphia has called for a federal mediator to be sent to the talks -- and this apparently will happen. Nonetheless, cutbacks and layoffs appear in the offing at the former Knight Ridder papers. The guild spelled out the situation in a message to its members, which was first posted at the Romenesko site. It is reproduced below in its entirety. *** The Guild Monday asked for a federal mediator to help reach a settlement with the Company on a new...

Proving that local owners are under the same pressure that big newspaper chains face, one of the new owners of The Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News told employees this morning the papers are set to report one of the worst declines in ad revenue in its history. Brian Tierney, publisher of both papers, issued a memo to employees outlining the tough environment facing newspapers after meeting with several union representatives yesterday. The guild and management are currently negotiating new contracts. In the memo, Tierney explained that advertising revenue for July and August was down compared to the same months last...

NEW YORK - Les Goodstein, president and chief operating officer of the Daily News, has joined News Corp., owner of the rival New York Post, as a senior vice president, the Post’s publisher announced Tuesday. In the new position, Goodstein will be responsible for new business development and advise the Post and other News Corp. divisions, said Paul Carlucci, chairman of News America Marketing and publisher of the Post. The Daily News’ publisher, Mortimer Zuckerman, told the newspaper’s staff in a statement Tuesday that he would announce “major new leadership appointments” next week, including that of chief executive officer. Fred...

Kudos to the NY Daily News for its investigative series, launched Sunday, on how billions in 9/11 funds have been misspent (hat tip: BizzyBlog): ...a four-month Daily News investigation of the $21.4 billion disaster recovery package reveals that major elements of the aid process were procedurally flawed — from the determination of how much money was supposedly needed, to how it was distributed, to how it was actually spent and ultimately, to how little oversight there was over the spending. In effect, no one was watching. As a result, 9/11 recovery aid was used to finance a plethora of projects...

Tom DeFrank, the Washington Bureau Chief for the New York Daily News recently showed how the liberal media elite really feel about grassroots conservatives in his canned attack on "mindless" conservatives who had emailed him calling for the firing of leftwing Daily News White House correspondent Ken Bazinet. Here, word for word is the email DeFrank sent to hundreds of members of LaptopAmerica.net: "Thank you for contacting me on this subject. I'll say as respectfully as I can that I pay zero attention to letters generated by a central source with exactly the same language, word-for-word. If you want to...

The Inquirer and Daily News have announced plans to cut some 100 writers and reporters along with other newsroom employees. That is 16 percent of staff. Falling advertising revenues and circulation are blamed. Actually, sheer stupidity and arrogance could account for a good part of the declining circulation. I have tried over the past months to save the Inquirer, but alas, the left-wing, liberal commissars there have refused to follow my advice and accept my aid. They continue to preach to the choir.Anything and everything bad is "Bush's fault."Tony Auth is even calling Katrina "George's Hurricane."Inquirer editor Amanda Bennett said, "as long...

Living in New York, I have no choice but to read the New York Times every day. I try to leaven it with the Daily News and the New York Post, but it's a witch's brew. The News has somehow cast itself as the newspaper of the underclass, so it feels obliged to report every bit of mayhem coming out of New York's poor neighborhoods. Somebody killed somebody over a jacket. Somebody got shot over a parking space. A grandmother in a housing project was killed in the crossfire by drug dealers. News about democracy demonstrations in Lebanon usually appears...

The New York Daily News, a major New York City and State newspaper, whom normally endorses liberal Democrat candidates, has endorsed GW Bush for re-election.

...Terry McAuliffe called the program "an illegal in-kind contribution" to the Bush campaign and said the Democratic National Committee is filing a complaint with the Federal Election Commission. Over at the FCC, Democratic Commissioner Michael Copps interrupted his Columbus Day holiday to dub the broadcast "an abuse of the public trust." More ominously, Kerry adviser Chad Clanton told Fox News yesterday that "I think they (Sinclair) are going to regret doing this, and they better hope we don't win." ...It wasn't the intention of the Founders to give elected officials veto power over press reports.... The excuse for such broadcast...

LAST WEEK, the nation looked to the past with the death of President Ronald Reagan. This week, the presidential campaigns of George W. Bush and John F. Kerry, suspended out of respect to the deceased 40th president, start fresh. In that spirit, this newspaper, the first in the nation, endorses John Kerry for president. Unlike the current White House occupant, Kerry can lead America to a brighter, better future. He has shown the personal courage, compassion, intellect and skill to lead this country in a time of war abroad and economic troubles at home. He is a serious man for...

The mainstream media have two complementary tactics in covering homosexual-related news: Flooding the zone with stories portraying gays as victims or heroes, and damming up the flow of information, when it would present gays in a less than favorable light. And sometimes both tactics are used within the same story.Consider coverage of the illegal same-sex “weddings” in San Francisco and New Paltz, New York. Several stories on the New Paltz “weddings” mentioned Tom Duane, an openly gay New York State Senator, who represents the Chelsea section of Manhattan. On March 2, Ulster County District Attorney Donald Williams charged New Paltz Mayor...
