  • Archbishop Justin Welby Hopes for Fixed Easter Date

The Archbishop of Canterbury is working with other Christian churches to agree on a fixed date for Easter. Justin Welby made the announcement after a meeting of primates from the Anglican Communion in Canterbury. In the UK, an act of Parliament passed in 1928 allowed for Easter Sunday to be fixed on the first Sunday after the second Saturday in April. However, this has never been activated and Easter has remained variable, determined by the moon's cycle. Easter is the most important Christian festival, as it celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ following his death by crucifixion on Good Friday....

The police in Cologne have been criticized. So have the police in Stuttgart and Hamburg. The German media have been criticized. The Justice Minister spoke of "organized crime." (Though it appeared to me to be badly organized.) The Chancellor's office was offended by the presumption that any wrongdoer might be a recent refugee claimant. This because of rumors that they had been criticized. And all this because of people out on the streets of those cities, and others, in the night following 31st December, wishing Frohes Neues Jahr to each other across their various cultural divides. It took the state...
  • WHAT EVERY CHRISTIAN SHOULD KNOW REGARDING RELIGION OF ISLAM-WISDOM FROM FATHERS AND SAINTS

Timely words of various Saints and Fathers on Islam In an age of ecumenism, and acceptance of false religions whilst rejecting the True Faith of God as found in Christ our God, there has been a tendency to whitewash one of the most abhorrent and fastest growing religions that grows as canker in the body. Besides the Holy Scriptures, we also have the Holy Fathers and Saints in the history of the Christian Church who have dealt with this false religion, and some have even been martyred under it for refusal to deny faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. The...

How tragic it is when a fallen human being gives themselves totally over to the base and lawless practices of this little fallen world and sell their souls seeking to find satisfaction and contentment by living a godless and lawless life. In the end of one's godless vanity there is an ETERNAL price to be paid which has now become a HORRIFIC SOBERING REALITY (Psalm 14:1-3, Mark 8:36-37, Rom. 3; 5:12-21, Gal. 6:7-8, Jude 1:11-13, Rev. 20:11-15). For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a...

They are about to become law in Italy, but the pope is discouraging Catholics from raising the barricades. He did the same thing in Argentina. But there's a difference in his politics on immigration, poverty, Islamic radicalism ROME, January 15, 2016 -- Jorge Mario Bergoglio likes his crowds festive and prayerful, never politically aggressive. In Buenos Aires, in 2010, he sent back home the Catholics who had gathered in front of parliament for a prayer vigil against the imminent approval of homosexual marriage. He persuaded them to "avoid the impasse." Of course, in that law Bergoglio saw in action nothing...

Moscow, January 12, Interfax - Christian refugees are exposed to harassment at the refugee camps in Germany, says Hegumen Daniil (Irbits) superior of the St. George the Victorious Monastery in Gotschendorf, member of the Integration Committee at the German Federal Chancellery."Christian refugees from Syria, Eritrea and other countries are exposed to humiliation, manhunt and brutal harassment at the camps for refugees by Muslim neighbors. This also relates to the Yazidi religious minority. The cases when humiliation comes to injuries and threats of death are frequent," the priest said in a letter to Federal Minister for Special Affairs and Head of...

The heads of the Orthodox churches face several obstacles to consensus before the Great and Holy Council of the Orthodox Church, scheduled to begin on June 19 in Istanbul, according to a report in L'Osservatore Romano. Giovanni Zavata, the article's author, cites the "slowness with which the preparatory works are progressing," "doubts expressed by high Orthodox representatives," "difficulties existing in relations between some churches," and "rising political tension between Russia and Turkey." In the two years since the council was announced, the Orthodox churches have reached consensus on only three of the eight agenda items, Zavada said, and the participation...

When President Obama announced executive actions that would require that all firearm sales undergo background checks, he did so with the blessing of more than 50 faith communities. Vincent DeMarco, national coordinator of Faiths United to Prevent Gun Violence, a coalition of Baptists, Methodists, Catholics and Mennonites among others, said, "Since Congress won't do anything, he's doing the best that he can do, and we think that's wonderful." Archbishop Thomas Wenski said the nation's Catholic bishops "welcome reasonable efforts aimed at saving lives and making communities safer." Mr. Obama's move on guns also marked the reappearance of an old friend....

An organizer for the PC(USA)'s annual Montreat College Conference in North Carolina has claimed that the Bible verse John 3:16 has been "used for hate, intimidation and fear." Montreat Director of Programs, the Rev. Katie Cashwell, told Presbyterian News Service in an interview last week that the theme for the four-day event, "Reclaim John 3:16," focused on her belief that the verse has been misused in the recent past. "Our focus was to reclaim the well-known Bible verse in John 3:16 as a message of love and welcome," said Cashwell, according to the Presbyterian News Service. "Too often it's been...

After Domino’s founder Tom Monaghan sold the pizza chain, he had a grander vision for his next project: a university and town built on Catholic beliefs. “There is not going to be any pornographic television in Ave Maria Town,” Monaghan said in 2004, in a speech on his vision for the Florida town. “If you go to the drug store and you want to buy the pill or the condoms or contraception, you won't be able to get that in Ave Maria Town.” While Monaghan retracted his statements, Ave Maria has grown into a religious-centric town like no other in...

Once upon a time, my only association with this unusual word was from a work of horror fiction from American novelist, Stephen King, "Duma Key." That association is gone forever. The President of the Catholic Bishops Conference, Rev. Joseph Osei-Bonsu has suggested the former Yemeni detainees from Guantanamo Bay prison do not deserve the compassion of Ghanaians. Rev. Osei Bonsu's words come in response to President Mahama's call on Ghanaians to show compassion to the two Yemeni men, Mahmud Umar Muhammad Bin Atef and Khalid Muhammad Salih Al-Dhuby, who were transferred to Ghana last week by the United States government. The Catholic Bishops Conference have already released a statement calling the government's decision to accept the former detainees as "wrong" and "dangerous." Their statement came after other Christian organisations condemned...

As many observed, Pope Francis’ January intention video does not include a crucifix, as the most sacred symbol of Christianity. But it is much worse, than a missing crucifix. The Pope’s very own crucifix is obscured and hidden. We see the chain around his neck, but the crucifix is invisible in the video. The Pope’s cross, which he always wears is concealed and obscured during the 1 1/2 minute “we are all one faith” video. The strategic placement of the Pope’s handheld script, in front of his crucifix hanging from his neck. Significantly, his script is held to block the...

Moscow, January 12, Interfax - The new national security strategy of Russia contains an expanded list of national interests, Russian Security Council Deputy Secretary Vladimir Nazarov told reporters on Tuesday. "The list of national interests of the Russian Federation has been expanded. It has been supplemented with the strengthening of national defense, the provision of national accord and public unity, higher competitiveness of the national economy, and the preservation of culture and traditional moral values of Russian society," Nazarov said. President Vladimir Putin approved the Russian national security strategy on December 31, 2015. The strategy proclaims the same strategic national...

FULL TITLE: “Pretend to be Christian”: ISIS handbook tells Muslims to lose beard, shun mosque and wear cross before killing ISIS has issued a handbook for Muslims in the West. The gist of the instruction booklet is the necessity to blend in with the Western way of life and to avoid “looking like a Muslim” — pretend to be Christian — so as to stay below the radar of the security services. This is important. It is key to understanding the enemy and their tactics. The media and the Democrats are deliberately misleading the public. You must educate yourself and...

We are fragile mortals, given to fears of every sort. We have a built-in insecurity that no amount of whistling in the dark can mollify. We seek assurance concerning the things that frighten us the most. The prohibition uttered more frequently than any other by our Lord is the command "Fear not." He said this so often to His disciples and others He encountered that it almost came to sound like a greeting. Where most people greet others by saying "Hi" or "Hello," the first words of Jesus very often were "Fear not." Why? Perhaps Jesus' predilection for those words...

Pope Francis shared his first monthly prayer intention on social media Wednesday, with the focus of the prayer being on "interfaith unity." The pope began his brief video, which was broadcast on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube, by suggesting that because the majority of the world's inhabitants identify with some religion, this "should lead to a dialogue among religions. We should not stop praying for it and collaborating with those who think differently." "Many think differently, feel differently, seeking God or meeting God in different ways. In this crowd, in this range of religions, there is only one certainty that...
