WICHITA, Kan. – The leader of a Kansas commune that prosecutors say lived off of insurance payouts following the deaths of group members is set to stand trial for murder in the 2003 drowning of one of them — a young mother whose death he allegedly foretold weeks before it happened. Daniel U. Perez, a 55-year-old self-proclaimed seer, is charged with first-degree premeditated murder in the death of 26-year-old Patricia Hughes at the group's compound in the Wichita suburb of Valley Center. Jury selection begins Monday in Sedgwick County District Court. Authorities have investigated several deaths linked to the group,...

Just saw a local Miami tv station using video from the government web site with an "interview" of Obama, where he spews some crap about how his goal is to outline for the nation how he is going to make sure things are fair, now that we have "made it through the crisis". I nearly spit my coffee out. We are not out of a crisis. My point is that these kind of videos are NOT a proper use for news....and I expect that if a REPUBLICAN president put out this type of "interview", the media would ignore it....on the...

Check out this 2-part Viewpoint on Mormonism podcast series originally airing in October 2012 by clicking on the following links: Part 1 Part 2When the Constitution “Hangs by a Thread” – The White Horse Prophecy in Modern MormonismFollowing the Mormon expulsion from Missouri in 1838, Joseph Smith made a trip to Washington, D.C. “to present to the National Congress the petition of the Saints for a redress of their grievances, suffered in Missouri” (History of the Church 4:xxvi). Arriving in November 1839, Smith met with several powerful politicians of that day, including President Martin Van Buren, and left Washington in...

America knows how to solve problems. When we work together, we can’t be stopped.”

Nathaniel Branden, who has died aged 84,was for many years the lover and chief disciple of the American writer and libertarian monstre sacré Ayn Rand (1905-82); the story of their relationship and its bitter ending served to illustrate some of the pitfalls of her philosophy of ethical selfishness. When they first met in 1950 Nathan Blumenthal, as he then was, was a 19-year-old Canadian psychology student at the University of California, Los Angeles. Ayn Rand, a Russian-Jewish emigrée in her late forties, was the bestselling author of The Fountainhead (1943), a torrid ideological melodrama of Nietzschean individualism, whose merciless celebration of the...

....Obama may be the President of the United States, but for a few minutes on Monday, he was also Stephen Colbert, outgoing host of "The Colbert Report." Obama, who sat down for an interview with Colbert in Washington, surprised the host and took over the taping for a segment. "You've been taking a lot of shots at my job, I've decided to take a shot at yours," Obama said before taking over for Colbert on "The Word," a segment where Colbert (in this case, Obama) says a line or two before a witty word or phrases flashes to the right....

....Obama’s approval rating hit 38 percent this fall and currently hovers in the very low 40s. Presumably, then, upwards of 124 million (out of 308 million total) Americans are totally clamoring to see a movie about the first date experienced by Obama and his wife, first lady Michelle Obama. That movie, a serious drama titled “Southside With You,” is slated to begin shooting on location in Chicago in July.

So this morning I have kicked back and perused the local south Florida stations. Ever since their hero Obama seized power, they've done their best to set him up as the Messiah to the audience. Today was PARTICULARLY hilarious....as it has been the past several Black Fridays. See, the stores in Miami are NOT CROWDED...local traffic reporters flying over the malls show empty lots provide the proof that Obamanomics is a failure. Truth is, this has been going on every year since Obama took over....seriously, it is amazing to see "journalists" talk about the "frenzy" when the wide halls of...

Mormon leaders have acknowledged for the first time that the church’s founder and prophet, Joseph Smith, portrayed in church materials as a loyal partner to his loving spouse Emma, took as many as 40 wives, some already married and one only 14 years old. The church’s disclosures, in a series of essays online, are part of an effort to be transparent about its history at a time when church members are increasingly encountering disturbing claims about the faith on the Internet. Many Mormons, especially those with polygamous ancestors, say they were well aware that Smith’s successor, Brigham Young, practiced polygamy...

Over five years ago I wrote an article entitled ‘Demonic and Ungodly Names in the Book of Mormon’. Since then I have been asked by numerous people to write more on this particular subject so here it is! Back by popular demand I went through my old notes and found some other names that I think would be of interest to the Mormon and non-Mormon alike. There were more than 50 names of people and/or places that contradict what the Biblical accounts report. Here are just a few of them. ChemishThe name of Chemish so closely resembles the name of...

Snip -------------------------------------- http://www.pnl.gov/chembio/emerge.htm In addition, naturally occurring outbreaks of disease can provide ammunition for use by biological weapons terrorists. For example, 40 members of the Aum cult are known to have traveled to Zaire during the most recent outbreak of Ebola. Although scientifically problematic, the successful culture of the hemorrhagic Ebola virus would constitute a formidable weapon in the hands of a group with a demonstrated willingness to use it. Snip -------------------------------------- Did Aum ever consider biological terrorism? Yes. According to the testimony of several cult members convicted in the 1995 attack, Aum had also experimented with biological warfare,...

A Chinese court has sentenced five cult members for beating a woman to death at a McDonald's restaurant in Shandong province last May. Two members were given death sentences, one was given a life sentence, and two were given 10 and seven-year jail terms. The victim was allegedly killed after she refused to give her phone number to the members, who tried to recruit her. The Church of the Almighty God cult is banned in China. However, it claims to have millions of members. 'A demon' Zhang Fan and her father Zhang Lidong were given death sentences by the Yantai...

This song first showed up in 2008, and it did not age well. I’m going to put the lyrics under the fold, largely because people need to be reminded about just how messed up some parents can get when it comes to using their children as political props, but let me just note something first: lots of those kids are now trying to find summer jobs. Good luck, kids! – Because the folks that would hire you for said summer job can just as easily get a fifty year old these days, and frankly they’d rather have those.
