Crocs have become a danger at Disney World — but not the ones with teeth and scales. Walt Disney World has reportedly declared war on Crocs, the ones you wear on your feet, following multiple incidents involving the foam slides jamming escalators. The Florida amusement park has “outlawed” the popular footwear — at least on its escalators — where the shoes have been getting chewed up and stuck in the escalator teeth, Inside the Magic reported.

A pair of distinctive red Crocs landed a Florida man behind bars after he allegedly robbed the bakery where he was once employed, allegedly spending the stolen money on food and alcohol. A suspect wearing a black mask, a black sweatshirt, black pants, a brown and black backpack and bright red Crocs snuck into Crumbl Cookies in Brooksville on July 20 and removed cash from the bakery's safe and cash register, according to a Facebook post from the Hernando County Sheriff's Office. The store's manager told police that the thief was probably 18-year-old Jacob Ortega, a former employee who always...

Magdeburg waterworks keeps crocodile mascot Nearly 40 years ago, the African nation of Mali gave former East Germany a baby crocodile as a gift. Now, Theophila is over three metres long and lives in Magdeburg's water treatment plant where she has become a local legend. Theophila, a nile crocodile, arrived in the communist country as a thank you from the Malian town of Kayes for building its waterworks some four decades ago. Just 22 centimetres long, the boss of the Colbitz water plant at the time, Gunter Hellmann, never imagined she would still be paddling around today. “The African mentality...

Obama snaps up crocodile insurance Down Under... (and Michelle gets £30,000 if he's eaten) By Emily Allen U.S. President Barack Obama snapped up an unusual gift on a visit to Australia this week - £30,000 worth of crocodile insurance. The official gift, worth about A$10 or just over £6, was given to mark his stopover in Australia's tropical north, home to some of the world's biggest and deadliest crocodiles. If he had been attacked and eaten during the visit his wife Michelle would have received a £30,000 pay-out. Mr Obama told about 2,000 U.S. Marines and Australian troops at the...

Crocs were born of the economic boom. The colorful foam clogs appeared in 2002, just as the country was recovering from a recession. Brash and bright, they were a cheap investment (about $30) that felt good and promised to last forever. Former president George W. Bush wore them. Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler wore them. Your grandma wore them. They roared along with the economy, mocked by the fashion world but selling 100 million pairs in seven years. Then the boom times went bust, and Crocs went to the back of the closet. The company had expanded to meet demand,...
  • Crocodile numbers rise in south Florida, but at what risk to dogs?

    04/08/2009 2:55:15 PM PDT · by Chet 99 · 32 replies · 731+ views
These are scary times in South Florida--if you're a small dog or a dog owner and live near the coast. That's because American crocodiles, once near the brink of extinction because of hunting and habitat loss, now flourish so at the tip of the Sunshine State that they've been downgraded from endangered to threatened status by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. South Florida is the species' only U.S. habitat and it might be no coincidence that with crocodile numbers up to about 2,000, more dogs and other small pets are vanishing. Chris Marin told the Associated Press that he's...

WASHINGTON - At rail stations and shopping malls around the world, reports are popping up of people, particularly young children, getting their toes caught in escalators. The one common theme seems to be the clunky soft-soled clogs known by the name of the most popular brand, Crocs. One of the nation's largest subway systems — the Washington Metro — has even posted ads warning riders about wearing such shoes on its moving stairways. The ads feature a photo of a crocodile, though they don't mention Crocs by name. Four-year-old Rory McDermott got a Croc-clad foot caught in an escalator last...

Crocs have been given the presidential seal of approval but this is not necessarily a good thing. George W. Bush was photographed recently in a pair of black Crocs -- Cayman style, $29.99 -- as he was heading out from the White House to ride his bike. He wore the clunky resin clogs -- which have ventilation holes and a heel strap -- with a pair of black shorts, a white camp shirt, a baseball cap with the image of an unidentified Scottish terrier and black bike socks imprinted with the presidential seal. He had the backstraps of his Crocs...

When Dr Brady Barr decided to dress up as a crocodile, the disguise needed to be good. Otherwise he was in grave danger of being eaten by the real thing. The zoologist adopted his bizarre outfit in the hope of getting closer to a colony of Nile crocodiles, which can grow up to 20ft. His disguise was a prosthetic head attached to the front of a protective metal cage covered with canvas and a generous plastering of hippo dung to mask his human scent. It was 13ft long - average Nile size. The head was made of glass fibre, while...

The Queensland Liberals have called for crocodiles to be culled because people are being eaten. The party's annual state convention in Brisbane has passed a motion put forward by Senator Ian McDonald for crocodile numbers to be reduced in populated areas. One delegate, Brett Blade, told the convention that lives are at risk "You can't allow crocodiles to come into the main street of Cairns and eat people - and that is exactly what's happening," he said. "If you go up north, believe me they have come into town and they have walked down main streets. "It also helps create...

Movie producers have given assurances to Katherine residents that a new horror film Rogue shot at the Nitmiluk National Park in the Northern Territory will not scare tourists away. On-site production on the film about a seven-metre crocodile stalking a tourist boat on the Katherine Gorge wrapped up earlier this month. Katherine's Mayor Ann Shepherd says the film-makers made it clear the movie would be good for tourism in the area. "Particularly for the Nitmiluk Gorge, the Katherine River and the surrounds and I think that'll certainly happen," she said. "There'll be some sort of a clause at the end......

THE latest fatal crocodile attack in the Northern Territory has sparked renewed calls for trophy hunting of the killer reptiles. Englishman Russell Harris, 37, was snorkelling with a friend in a popular swimming spot off Groote Eylandt, near Arnhem Land, when he disappeared on Saturday afternoon. His American wife was relaxing on remote Picnic Beach with the other man's partner, but the group became worried and alerted police when Mr Harris failed to return by late afternoon. Mr Harris' body was found on Sunday at the mouth of Eight Mile Creek, about 1.5km north of where he was last seen....

A NORTHERN Territory saltwater crocodile is being tracked by a space satellite in a new research project. NT Parks and Wildlife Minister Marion Scrymgour said the 4.2m male croc, named Sputnik, was being watched to see how far it travels in the region. Researchers from New Zealand's Massey University and NT Parks and Wildlife staff fitted a satellite tracking device to the crocodile in the Adelaide River, south of Darwin, five weeks ago, she said. It was hoped the study would give researchers an insight into the behaviour and movement of crocodiles, particularly problem crocodiles that move into Darwin Harbour...

Crocodile attacks hunter in Australia The Associated Press 11/2/2003, 10:43 p.m. ET DARWIN, Australia (AP) — A 10-foot saltwater crocodile attacked a hunter in the Australian Outback and clamped its jaws around his leg, releasing him only after the man's aunt punched the reptile in the snout, according to a report Monday. The victim, 19-year-old Manuel Pascoe, was returning from hunting geese Saturday night when the crocodile, possibly attracted by blood from the dead birds, lunged from a creek and tried to drag the man into the water, The Northern Territory News reported. Other members of the hunting party grabbed...
