MOUNT VERNON, Wash. (AP) -- Police in Mount Vernon, Washington, killed an agitated Angus cow that rampaged through town, tossing a police officer into the air and tap-dancing on a patrol car. The Skagit Valley Herald reports (http://is.gd/dm29HB) that police spokeswoman Shannon Haigh says the cow apparently escaped from a farm outside the city limits. It was first reported in a Wal-Mart parking lot last Friday.

A feral pig ransacked a campsite and drank at least 18 cans cans of beer before getting into an altercation with a cow in Australia. The incident, which happened in a remote area of Western Australia at the DeGray River rest area, prompted officials to warn campers to keep their food and alcohol secure. The wild pig was seen around the campsite for several days last week, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reported, citing officials who said the animal got into multiple six-packs of beer over the course of a few days. Fionna Findley, from the government highway division Main...

A wild boar in Australia caused a ruckus in a campsite when the swine stole and drank 18 beers from a camper. The pig then got the drunk munchies and rooted around various campsites for food, the Metro reports. The pig apparently then decided to pick a fight with a nearby cow, however the fight didn’t turn out the way he probably imagined it would. A camper said, “There were some other people camped right on the river and they saw him being chased around their vehicle by a cow.” Authorities searched for the boar only to find him passed...

Joao Maria de Souza, 45, had been in bed with his wife Leni when the animal fell through the ceiling of their home in Caratinga, southeast Brazil. The cow is believed to have escaped from a nearby farm and climbed onto the roof of the couple's house, which backs onto a steep hill on Wednesday night. The corrugated roof immediately gave way and the one-and-a-half-ton animal fell eight feet onto Mr de Souza's side of the bed. His wife, and the cow, both reportedly escaped unharmed. Rescuers took Mr de Souza to hospital with a fractured left leg but no...

STANFORD, Calif. -- Inside a lab on the Stanford University campus here, students experienced what it might feel like to be a cow. They donned a virtual reality helmet and walked on hands and feet while in a virtual mirror they saw themselves as bovine. As the animal was jabbed with an electrical prod, a lab worker poked a volunteer's side with a sticklike device. The ground shook to simulate the prod's vibrations. The cow at the end was led toward a slaughterhouse. Participants then recorded what they ate for the next week. The study sought to uncover whether temporarily...

RALEIGH — The historians, doctors, preachers, lawyers, raging grannies, students and others gathered around the second-floor fountain inside the Legislative Building and belted out “This Little Light of Mine” and other songs. They were diverse in age and backgrounds but united in voice as part of a protest movement gaining numbers in recent weeks. In the four months since North Carolina Republicans took control of both General Assembly chambers and the governor’s mansion, the lawmakers have proposed rapid and sweeping change to the state’s electoral processes, health care policies, welfare management and publicly-funded education systems. The Republicans, some who emerged...

This week some “Latinos” in Florida detected an “ethnic slur” on the wall of the ritzy South Beach Hotel W’s lounge. Within minutes all hell broke loose. A few stormed over to the manager and DEMANDED it be taken down, promptly and ceremoniously! The rest got on their BlackBerrys and iPhones to “burn up the wires.” Word spread throughout this tightly-knit “Latino community” and soon the hotel was blitzed with scathing e-mails, phone calls and tweets. This “Latino” groups powerful “Latina” Congressperson even jumped into the fray, firing off a letter to the Hotel owners, denouncing the “insensitivity” of the...

Doug Thompson, who many of us old-timers remember from the Clinton years, is in critical condition after hitting a cow while Doug was riding his motorcycle. Doug was a player in the anti-Clinton campaign with his website Capital Hill Blue. CHB was frequently cited on FreeRepublic during those years. He has since become a big broken-glass Democrat and retired to Floyd County to pursue photography.

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip – A spooked cow killed a Palestinian man who was trying to slaughter the beast on Saturday during the Muslim celebration of Eid al-Adha, a Gaza health official said. Muslims around the world slaughter sheep, cows and goats, during the four-day holiday that began Friday, giving away much of the meat to the poor. The Muslim holiday commemorates the sacrifice by the Prophet Ibrahim, known to Christians and Jews as Abraham. But accidents are common as people frequently buy animals to slaughter themselves instead of paying professional butchers. The festive atmosphere at the site of the...

A week passes, and thus far, the Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has yet to tell us whether he is or is not having sexual relations with a cow. As was reported in this column last week, based on sources in the field, Reid has been involved with the cow for at least three months, possibly more. My sources cannot be identified for obvious reasons. Even The New York Times would not reveal their identities. The story is that hot. It is, of course, possible that the relationship is purely platonic. On the other hand, possibly Reid is more involved...

Yes, there is a right way to blow up an animal carcass This, according to the US Forest Service document entitled "Obliterating Animal Carcasses with Explosives," is the right way. See those rectangles? Those represent sticks of dynamite. Their placement demonstrates how they should be positioned in order to achieve what the document calls "total obliteration." Pro-tip: The diagram up top illustrates how to explode a carcass when it needs to be eliminated quickly and absolutely. Under less urgent circumstances, the explosive placement illustrated below (corresponding to "partial obliteration") should suffice. Pro-tip #2: In some cases, it is probably best...

Vice President Joe Biden has been steadfast in his claim that if the president’s American Jobs Act does not pass, “rape will continue to rise.” Some have questioned Biden for invoking rape to push legislation, but the National Organization for Women is not among them. After one version of Obama’s jobs bill failed to overcome a Senate filibuster last week, the administration has been working to paint Republicans as the ones to blame, and Biden has done so forcefully. “Well let me tell you, it’s not temporary when that 911 call comes in and a woman’s being raped if a...

A few days ago, I received an email from a friend entitled “Interesting Marriages,” containing four links. The first link told the 2007 story of a Sudanese man who was caught copulating with a goat. Since the Sudanese tribal custom requires that a man must marry a woman whom he sexually violated (in order to preserve her family’s honor), the village leaders decided to publicly embarrass the man who had violated the goat, forcing him to pay a dowry to the goat’s owner before “marrying” the goat. The story, which was first reported in a light-hearted way on the website...

A cow in Germany has not only managed to escape from a Bavarian sausage maker, but has spent 10 months hiding out with a herd of deer in woodland. The brilliant bovine called Yvonne is said to have last year escaped from a sausage-based future after somehow escaping and going on the run in Bavaria. Since then she's eluded capture by pretending to be a deer and even blending in with a herd which live in nearby woodland. However, since the story was recently picked up by local media, it's not been looking good for Yvonne and there are reports...
