A judge on Friday ordered the seizure of identification documents and computer hard drives from Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s office, and chastised his attorneys for failing to turn over the evidence, requested months ago in a racial-profiling case against the Arizona lawman. The U.S. Marshals Service later raided the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. U.S. District Judge Murray Snow ordered the raid after a court-ordered monitor reported the sheriff’s office failed to hand over more than 1,400 identification documents – driver’s licenses, passports and identification cards – as part of a misconduct investigation involving the sheriff’s office.
  • Why Are ‘Customers’ So Angry About This New Book on Marriage and Religious Freedom?

Is the debate about marriage over after the Supreme Court’s June decision to redefine marriage in all fifty states? That’s what some Amazon.com reviewers are insisting after a new book was released last week. The book, “Truth Overruled: The Future of Marriage and Religious Freedom,” is a roadmap from Ryan Anderson, a senior research fellow at the Heritage Foundation, on how the conservative movement can move forward in promoting marriage and protecting religious freedom after the Supreme Court’s ruling. “I wrote this book for all Americans. For those who disagree with me, to at least understand the viewpoint of roughly...
  • IRS Scandal: It's Dangerous to be on Wrong side of Obama

Corruption: A new batch of IRS documents shows an agency that's more political than practical. Besides harassing groups applying for nonprofit status, it went after donors of existing groups. Documents produced by the IRS confirm that being on the wrong side of this administration is a dangerous place to be. Judicial Watch, which used the Freedom of Information Act to pry the documents from the government's grasp, said Wednesday they "confirm that the IRS used donor lists to tax-exempt organizations to target those donors for audits." Among these groups was the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. That organization "may find itself...

A House Oversight subcommittee hearing today will provide more pushback to President Barack Obama’s claim to the Daily Show that there was no IRS targeting of conservative nonprofits. The hearing, which will take testimony from IRS commissioner John Koskinen, will zoom in on a new report from the Government Accountability Office that will deliver this bombshell: The GAO now says that IRS political “targeting is indeed possible in the audit process” for nonprofits, largely due to poor agency oversight and controls. “Unfortunately, the IRS has not taken sufficient steps to prevent targeting Americans based on their personal beliefs,” the GAO...

Pope Francis is not as popular a pontiff as he used to be in the United States — especially among conservatives — according to a new Gallup survey out Wednesday. A larger share of American Catholics say they don’t have a favorable view of their church’s spiritual leader. A little more than seven in 10 (71 percent) have a favorable image of Francis, a drop of 18 percentage points from last year.

Tactics are important. History is replete with examples of superior forces being defeated by smaller armies with a better battle plan. Conservatives lose for the same reason: We have no battle plan. For years conservatives were content to be correct. Socialism doesn’t work. Fascism was a horrendous failure. Communism collapsed under its own weight. Each time conservatives were vindicated in their opposition to these failed branches of the progressive ideological tree. But at the end of each battle we made the mistake of assuming the war was over. It wasn’t and never will be. Every progressive victory was preceded by...

Breitbart.com and it’s readers are big fans of Sen. Ted Cruz. The influential conservative news website frequently features exclusive op-eds and interviews with the 2016 presidential candidate, and it’s late founder Andrew Breitbart considered Cruz the “future of the conservative movement.” But beyond the mostly favorable coverage from its reporters and high praise from its readers is an interesting web of connections, Politico reported. Robert Mercer–the New York hedge fund billionaire backing Cruz’s super PACs–also funds Breitbart and a political data company called Cambridge Analytica, which is working with Cruz’s presidential campaign. Conservative finance operatives told Politico that Breitbart executive...

Donald Trump’s outrageous comments about Mexican immigrants in his announcement speech two weeks ago should have been an occasion for conservatives to say that we have no room for bigots in our midst. Instead, a host of conservatives, from Ted Cruz to National Review’s own Rich Lowry, have defended his message, if not the crude way he expressed it:

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch today released new Department of Justice (DOJ) and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) documents that include an official “DOJ Recap” report detailing an October 2010 meeting between Lois Lerner, DOJ officials and the FBI to plan for the possible criminal prosecution of targeted nonprofit organizations for alleged illegal political activity. The newly obtained records also reveal that the Obama DOJ wanted IRS employees who were going to testify to Congress to turn over documents to the DOJ before giving them to Congress. Records also detail how the Obama IRS gave the FBI 21 computer disks, containing...

The hardest part for constitutional conservatives in 2016 – as it was for Reagan – will be defeating the Progressive RINO Establishment and their crony capitalist enablers in the Republican primaries. Every 4th of July, patriotic Americans celebrate the fundamental essence of what Thomas Jefferson penned in the Declaration of Independence (with Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Roger Sherman, and Robert Livingston); a commemoration of July 4th, 1776, upon which day the Thirteen Colonies set forth the explanation and justification for a parting of ways with Great Britain and the tyrannical rule of King George III: the legal separation occurred on...

BILL O'REILLY: All the polls say the same thing. Americans who identify themselves as conservative outnumber liberals by about two to one. Yet, social power has shifted to the left wing precincts. The reason? Organization. The far left is dominating the Internet, the entertainment industry, including the journalistic media. Outside of talk radio and Fox News there are few non-liberal voices heard nationwide. The intensity of the far left is almost frightening. Many of these people will do almost anything to destroy their opposition. So conservative Americans find themselves somewhat demoralized as they see the Supreme Court siding with the...
  • Jeb Bush Leads in New Poll. Here’s Why Conservatives Don’t Need to Worry About It

Breitbart reports that, according to a new NBC/WSJ poll released yesterday, Jeb Bush is the current leader in the crowded field of Republican presidential candidates. According to the poll, Bush is supported by 22% of primary voters. Scott Walker is second with 17%, and Marco Rubio is third with 14%. Everybody else comes behind (this includes Ben Carson and Ted Cruz). Although I saw many conservatives on Facebook explode at this news, I’m not worried at all. You see, Bush has only two strengths: 1. He’s a Bush. This is a strength because it means instant name recognition. Additionally, although...

Ben Wattenberg — the gloriously unclassifiable public intellectual, journalist, television host, amateur demographer, and loving student of America — passed away yesterday at the age of 81. Among Wattenberg’s many gifts to his country, his unwavering refusal to abide any simple narrative of American decline always struck me as the greatest.

To keep conservative rebels in check, Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and his allies have been doling out punishments at an aggressive clip in the 114th Congress. From kicking unruly members off the Rules Committee and GOP whip team to stripping a lawmaker of his subcommittee gavel, leadership has been growing more comfortable with taking retaliatory measures to try to enforce party discipline. But several Tea Party targets haven’t gone quietly. They’ve been fighting back with help from Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan’s conservative House Freedom Caucus, which successfully pressured leaders this week to return a subcommittee gavel to one of their...

Reducing Pope Francis’s encyclical “Laudato Si” to a white paper on global warming is, in George Weigel’s fitting analogy, “akin to reading ‘Moby Dick’ as if it were a treatise on the 19th-century New England whaling industry.” The whole spirit and story of the thing are missed. The pope’s sprawling, ambitious statement — setting out a theory of nature and of the human person — will be profitably scrutinized for decades. Environmentalists who like some of Francis’s conclusions will find, if they sit quietly with the text rather than rummage through it for the politically relevant bits, that the pope...

Yesterday ISIS released video of their latest execution techniques. In one scene the Islamic State strapped a string of bombs around the necks of a line of prisoners – then blew them up. Today Rush Limbaugh explained how the left sees conservatives as more of a threat than the Islamic State. From the Rush Limbaugh Show: RUSH: Now, isn’t it interesting, however, what is the one thing, when you read about ISIS in news coverage in this country, ISIS can run around — the latest news of ISIS is the methods they’re now using to kill people, mass murders. 1) Conservatives are racist! Nonsense. Conservatives welcome all races and colors in our quest to defend our founding ideals. Likewise, we unilaterally reject divisive victimization propaganda used to incite animosity and discord along racial and economic lines. Although there are racist elements in all facets of America, such endeavors are intrinsically destructive and invite future bigotry upon yourself and peers. Why else would “racist” Republicans support Allen West, Ben Carson, Mia Love, and Marco Rubio, let alone embrace the lives and transcendent wisdom of Booker T. Washington, Martin Luther King Jr. and Thomas Sowell? Not supporting Barack Obama’s Marxist agenda...

There is already a rush to call Dylann Roof’s murder of nine black churchgoers in Charleston an “act of domestic terrorism.” This is a deliberate political strategy, intended by its ultra-liberal authors to transform this terrible tragedy into an indictment of American conservatism. “Terrorism” is a slippery term to define. Under U.S. law, terrorism is defined as "the unlawful use of force and violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives.” This is a perfectly good legal definition for the lawyers, but it...

Dozens of members of the House GOP's most conservative faction plan to meet Tuesday to discuss ways to counteract the decision of House Speaker John Boehner and other leaders to seek retribution against members who vote against must-pass measures. The House Freedom Caucus, a GOP group made up of about 40 of the most conservative members, plans to hold the discussion some time after Tuesday's evening votes, according to lawmakers familiar with the initiative. Freedom Caucus Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, said Monday in a radio interview that many conservatives were "fed up" with the string of punishment meted out to...

Findings from three separate studies link a person's political ideology and their self-control performance, with conservatives demonstrating greater self-control than liberals. In each study, Clarkson says participants who identified as politically conservative consistently showed greater attention regulation and task persistence—hallmark indicators of self-control—and that these effects were independent of participants' gender, race, age, education or income.
