U.S. asks Israel to consider talks on land By UPI Staff United Press International July 27, 2006 JERUSALEM (UPI) -- U.S. officials have advised Israel to consider a deal that would give the Shaba Farms area, occupied by Israel since 1967, to Lebanon. The issue was broached by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice during a meeting Tuesday with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, The Jerusalem Post reported Thursday. The Post said the Israeli government pushed the idea aside after bitter fighting and Israeli loses Wednesday at Bint Jbail, the Hezbollah capital in Lebanon. When asked about the possibility of...

It has been a heady few months, with relatively free elections in Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine, Ukraine, Thailand, Indonesia and East Timor. Lebanon held open elections following the withdrawal of foreign Syrian troops after 30 years of occupation. Even Saudi Arabia held local elections and Egypt opened somewhat by holding a referendum on multiparty elections. Is President George W. Bush's second inaugural dream for democracy and freedom in the Middle East and the world now at hand? America's most influential right-of-center editorial page is optimistic but warns there is much more to do. "The U.S. with its stake in Iraq and...

Y'know, I've been writing these articles for nigh on two years now. I've written about the problems in our nation, and how we should correct them. I've stood up for the President when he's right, and I've chastised the President when he's wrong. There has been a lot more of the former than the latter, I might add (for any lib/dem/soc/commies out there, wringing their hands in glee in hope of a split in the rep/con party) and I find him a likeable and more-than-competent Commander in Chief. In all the time I have been writing this column, however, not...

    | Jose Canseco has a better chance of sitting in the Oval Office four years from now than Condoleezza Rice. A considerable number of Republican earlybirds, fretting about who'll run for president in 2008—and forget the absurd talk that Sen. Bill Frist, a wobbly Majority Leader at best, and about as exciting as a Three Dog Night reunion, is the putative front-runner—are talking up the Secretary of State, hawking Condi t-shirts and posters on the Internet. She ranks high in the polls for possible contenders, just as two other non-starters, Rudy Giuliani (way too socially liberal) and John McCain (too...

Bush gave a transformational speech Tuesday at the National Defense University at Fort Lesley J. McNair, Washington, DC. I am sure we will see the Europeans and their like minded US compatriots in the Democratic Party and the Main Stream Media claim what he said there was just blather and nothing new if they comment on it at all. But this speech was quite a thing, really. Along with affirming that the USA has entered into a new century with a new foreign policy direction that Bush is not going to waver from, he also aimed a shot across the...
  • CNN's Zahn: Will Rice Be "Own Woman" or "President's Puppet?"

CNN's Paula Zahn on Tuesday night insultingly degraded Secretary of State nominee Condoleezza Rice as she posed this question to Democratic Senator Joe Biden: "Do you see her being her own woman down the road or will she be nothing more than the President's puppet?" As if there's something wrong with the Secretary of State carrying out a President's policies. Zahn highlighted Senator Barbara Boxer's allegation that Rice's support of the Iraq war "'overwhelmed her respect for the truth.' Isn't that going to be a problem for her?" Zahn seemed appalled that Biden planned to vote for Rice's confirmation, citing...

LGF reader Model4 points out that Barbara Boxer was simply lying through her teeth today at Condoleezza Rice’s confirmation hearing, when she said the bill passed by Congress authorizing the war in Iraq was, “WMD, period.” But of course, you won’t see this lie exposed in any mainstream media reports. Here is the bill passed by both House and Senate, titled “Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002.” (Available through the Library of Congress THOMAS site, by searching on its title.)

Rice Vows to Help Mend Fences Through DiplomacyWASHINGTON – Condoleezza Rice pledged Tuesday to work to mend and strengthen ties with allies frayed by the war in Iraq. "The time for diplomacy is now," she told senators at her confirmation hearing to replace Colin Powell as secretary of state. "The time for diplomacy is long overdue," retorted Sen. Joseph Biden of Delaware, the senior Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He told her the United States is "paying a heavy price" for the administration's policy in Iraq. Despite pointed questioning from committee Democrats, Senate confirmation of Rice – Bush's...

Chief Justice William Rehnquist's health is so poor he likely soon will be called to the Great Appellate Bench in the Sky. On NBC's "Meet the Press" program last month, the new Senate Democratic leader, Sen. Harry Reid, said he could support the elevation of conservative Justice Antonin Scalia to chief justice, but not Thomas. Angela Onwuachi-Willig, a liberal Democrat and law professor who is black, said Reid's erroneous attack on Thomas appeared to be motivated by racism. "It is the black justice who cannot write opinions, articulate independent thoughts or perform his job well," she said, writing in the...

OPINION JOURNAL BEST OF THE WEB ^ | NOVEMBER 18, 2004 | JAMES TARANTO
Both before and after her elevation to secretary of state, Condoleezza Rice has been the target of a series of racist caricatures by liberal cartoonists. Rush Limbaugh points out three: a Doonesbury strip by Garry Trudeau that refers to her as "Brown Sugar," a Jeff Danziger cartoon that portrays her as Prissy from "Gone With the Wind" (also the topic of a Wall Street Journal editorial last month) and, most recently, a Tuesday political cartoon from Pat Oliphant that depicts the secretary-designate as a parrot with enormous lips. (This seems to be a running feature; yesterday's Oliphant cartoon does it...

In naming Condoleezza Rice as his pick for secretary of state, President Bush is sending his most loyal adviser to his most disloyal agency: The State Department. But no matter what changes she makes -- and many are needed -- the bureaucracy is entrenched almost to the point of being impenetrable, meaning real reform could well prove illusory. Miss Rice will soon take the reins of a massive 47,000-person operation that is literally sprawled out across the world. It is an insular institution that operates in a remarkably similar way from one administration to the next, typically viewing presidents, as...

National Security Advisor to be met by protesters at MSU commencement Lansing State Journal EAST LANSING - Activists angry with President Bush and the war in Iraq are mobilizing protests for MSU's May 7 commencement headlined by National Security Advisor Condolezza Rice. Groups, looking to draw outspoken crowds, plan to send mass e-mails, pass out flyers and hold meetings in the next two weeks to encourage people to turn out. Rice has been at the center of controversy this spring, leading up to her testimony before a national panel investigating the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. Among those involved...

Remember the uproar? Remember how all those black folks gathered out in front of City Hall with signs and accused O'Malley of insulting all black women? How dare the mayor use such language about a black female government official, they fumed. On Saturday, at one of the state's public colleges, another man said something even...

I am reading a book on Condolezza Rice, called CONDI. It states that she is (in her words) "pure Second Amendment", for small government, very conservative, to the point of libertarian at times, and pro-choice. It says she is a "realist" on foreign policy, favoring a very strong military. She refers to herself as "a very religious person;" (not sure how she squares that with her position on the life issue.) On a personal level, she is an outstanding pianist, figure skater, and desires (implied) to be Commissioner of the NFL someday.
