A slungshot is a device that consists of a weight on the end of a line. It was designed to aid in throwing a line from one place to another, such as in throwing a line from a boat to the dock. A weight on the end of a line can also be used as a weapon. A knot to secure a shot to the end of a line is a monkey’s fist. Here is how one is made:Link to video Florida has eliminated their antiquated slungshot law. The law was another of those “trendy” laws enacted without much thought,...

DAYTON — Police said Montgomery County prosecutors have approved aggravated robbery charges against a man who attempted to rob an elderly man at the point of an AK-47 assault rifle, only to be shot and wounded by his would-be victim. Lt. Brian Johns said the suspect, Phillip D. Anderson, 24, is under armed guard at Miami Valley Hospital, where he is in stable condition. Police said Anderson blocked the elderly man’s vehicle with his own, then got out with the AK-47 and approached the man, who drew a handgun and shot Anderson twice. The incident occurred Saturday, Sept. 19, at...

A visitor to a Columbia Alcoholics Anonymous center on College Street shot and killed an 18-year-old man who tried to rob AA members at the center late Saturday night, city police said Sunday morning. "Gimme what you got," witnesses quoted the suspected robber as saying when he entered the AA building at 2015 College St. about 10:48 p.m. Saturday. They said he brandished a .25 caliber handgun. At that point, one AA visitor dropped something on the floor -- possibly his wallet -- and another AA visitor pulled a pistol out and shot the suspect several times in the chest,...

The hard truth of the matter is that parks, like almost every other public venue nowadays, have become more dangerous. As far as I know, law-abiding citizens, such as myself, who carry concealed weapons are the last group of people that government should be concerned about. To legally qualify to carry a concealed weapon, one must first be a law-abiding citizen without a criminal felony record . The authorities should be more concerned about the predators — both two- and four-legged who have attacked and killed innocent people in parks. Law-abiding citizens who choose to protect themselves and their families...

A Seattle mother of four was fatally stabbed early today despite a court protection order against her knife-wielding ex-husband. The 33-year-old victim was stabbed nearly two dozen times while attending a birthday party about 1 a.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall in the 9100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way South. The 39-year-old assailant burst into the hall, grabbed the victim and slashed her with a large knife, witnesses told police. The weapon was recovered at the scene. A 32-year-old Kent man who was at the party pulled a hand gun and shot the suspect who later...

Mike Taylor, Concealed Weapon Carrier: "The police have their hands full with everything and I don't think they could be every place at once." When Mike Taylor was threatened by a carjacker, he turned the tables on him. He says the situation could have been very different if he had not had a concealed weapon permit. Steven Beckstead, NRA Master Training Counsel: "A victim is somebody who has no options. A fire arm gives you an option to protect your life." Call this the latest exhibit in the contentious debate over concealed weapons. Many people say the guns just make...

Shortly afterward, a customer in line nearby pulled out a revolver and shot the man holding the pistol, Bailey said. Police think the customer fired one...

There's nothing like a gun control column to bring out the "Praise the Lord and pass the crybaby blankie" crowd. Gracious, there hasn't been this much whiney pouting since Pat Buchanan learned President Bush had nominated Edith Bunker meets Olive Oyl to the U.S. Supreme Court. The column that apparently got the fellow travelers of the National Rifle Association's pelts in a wad had to do with an effort by state Rep. Dennis Baxley, R-Baxley, Dennis Baxley, to deny the rights of private businesses to prohibit employees from bringing their weapons onto company property. Insert duh-squared right about here. While...

Some years ago, long after a co-worker had left the Ministry of Truth, a number of us learned that, during this person's tenure among us, the individual frequently was armed and dangerous in the workplace. If there is such a thing as a retroactive, post-traumatic, primal scream/crawling into a fetal position/whimpering with delayed fear syndrome -- the idea that many of us once worked alongside not only a complete crazy nut job, but a complete crazy nut job with a GUN certainly qualifies. Or, put another way, if you ever needed a reason to install the mother of all panic...

Disarming Facts - The road to bad laws is paved with good intentions. The last ten days have seen three horrific multiple-victim public shootings: the Atlanta courthouse attack that left four murdered; the Wisconsin church shooting, where seven were murdered, and Monday's high-school shooting in Minnesota, where nine were murdered. What can be learned from these attacks? Some take the attacks as confirmation that guns should be completely banned from even courthouses, let alone schools and churches. The lessons from the courthouse shooting are likely to be different from the other two attacks in that there were armed sheriff's deputies...

Gov. Holden on Friday said that if it got to his desk, he would veto a bill passed Thursday by the Missouri House that would make it legal to carry concealed weapons.

He suggested such a proposal would be better decided in a statewide vote similar to Proposition B, which was narrowly defeated in 1999.

Be afraid, be very very afraid. Last night on Fox News Channel on Brit Hume's Special Report, Brian Wilson reported on the comparison between the new TV show that mimics the Supreme Court and the actual Supreme Court as they both ruled on cases dealing with "virtual child pornography". The TV version voted 7 to 2 in the same direction that the actual Supreme Court voted (6 to 3). It would have been 7 to 2 in the actual had Sandra Day O'Connor taken a little more of her medication that morning. In Ashcroft vs. Free Speech Coalition (a pornography...
