SAN DIEGO (CBS) — A Twilight fan was struck by a car and killed while waiting in line to get into a Comic-Con session Tuesday. San Diego Police Lt. The woman died at a hospital. The 67-year-old driver was not cited. According to the San Diego Union Tribune, the woman was in a crosswalk and had run a red light when she tried to secure her place near...

Hyundai's Zombie Survival Machine Hyundai is looking toward the future. Unfortunately it’s a bleak future, where humanity is on the verge of extinction brought upon by the Zombie Apocalypse, but, hey, you’ve got to plan for everything, right? The automaker has teamed up with the creator of the “The Walking Dead” comic book series, Robert Kirkman, to create a Zombie Survival Machine based on its new Elantra Coupe, which will be unveiled at San Diego Comic Con on July 11th. The car was designed by Kirkman who tapped a decade of experience vanquishing zombies to come up with the key...

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Pee-wee Herman hopes to take his act back on the road for a new big-screen adventure. Paul Reubens told an audience at the Comic-Con fan convention Thursday that he's working with Hollywood comedy powerhouse Judd Apatow to produce a new movie. Reubens appeared in character as Pee-wee, with his bow-tie and gray suit. He played the oddball man-child on television and in two feature films, including Tim Burton's 1985 comedy "Pee-wee's Big Adventure." Reubens says Apatow felt strongly that the new film should return the character to his life on the road in the first movie

NEW YORK - No real psychiatrist has ever gotten the chance to diagnose and treat Batman, but they'd likely have as little luck as any of their fictional counterparts in Gotham City. A strong anti-psychiatry bias in the Batman comic book universe may even be why readers and moviegoers love the dark knight so much, according to a psychiatrist at New York Comic Con. Psychiatrists and cognitive neuroscientists not only fail to stem the tide of mentally unbalanced supervillains that Batman fights, but often end up becoming villains themselves. That depiction may work so well because people often do feel...

SAN DIEGO — Spiderman, apparently, was indisposed. So Comic-Con fanboys and fangirls channeled their inner superheroes Saturday evening, to detain an alleged armed attacker in their midst. Two men in their 20s waiting for the start of a Universal Studios panel in the jampacked cavern of the San Diego Convention Center’s Hall H had argued over seating. The argument escalated until one man allegedly stabbed the other in the face, near the eye, with a pen, police said. The internal threat at Comic-Con was vanquished when audience members detained the alleged attacker, police Sgt. Gary Mondesir said. The young man,...
  • Super Heroes vs. the Westboro Baptist Church

http://www.comicsalliance.com/2010/07/22/super-heroes-vs-the-westboro-baptist-church/ They've faced down humans time and time again, but Fred Phelps and his minions from the Westboro Baptist Church were not ready for the cosplay action that awaited them today at Comic-Con. After all, who can win against a counter protest that includes robots, magical anime girls, Trekkies, Jedi and...kittens? Unbeknownst to the dastardly fanatics of the Westboro Baptist Church, the good folks of San Diego's Comic-Con were prepared for their arrival with their own special brand of superhuman counter protesting chanting "WHAT DO WE WANT" "GAY SEX" "WHEN DO WE WANT IT" "NOW!" while brandishing ironic (and some...

Put one in the win column for fandom! Members of the Westboro Baptist Church—best known for picketing the funerals of American servicemen killed overseas—showed up at Comic-Con just as they said they would to protest the event because they wanted to send a message that we've all "turned comic book characters into idols." But Comic-Con rallied to send its OWN message.

The director of "Captain America: The First Avenger," the 2011 summer blockbuster that will coincide with the character's 70th anniversary, says that the screen version of the hero will be true to his roots -- up to a certain point. "We're sort of putting a slightly different spin on Steve Rogers," said Joe Johnston, whose past directing credits include "Jurassic Park III" and "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids." He's a guy that wants to serve his country but he's not a flag-waver. We're re-interpretating, sort of, what the comic book version of Steve Rogers was."
