US judge rejects Vegas 'patient dumping' lawsuit Feb 13, 8:57 PM (ET) By KEN RITTER LAS VEGAS (AP) - A federal judge in Nevada rejected a lawsuit Thursday that accuses Nevada officials and the state psychiatric hospital in Las Vegas of violating a patient's civil rights by giving him a bus ticket and sending him to California. But an American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada lawyer representing patient James Flavey Coy Brown characterized the ruling as a setback, not a fatal blow to the case. President Barack Obama has appointed a key union activist as senior adviser to Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, another sign of the influence that organized labor wields in the Obama administration. Mary Beth Maxwell spent the past five years as executive director of American Rights at Work, a nonprofit group pushing for passage of a bill to make it easier to form unions. NFL clubs to promote diversity program (Dec. 20, 2002) -- NFL clubs will implement a comprehensive program to promote diversity in their coaching and front office ranks based upon recommendations of the NFL Committee on Workplace Diversity, the NFL announced. The Committee, appointed by NFL Commissioner Tagliabue on Oct. 31, reviewed its recommendations in a series of conference calls with owners on Dec. 19 and 20.
