After finally meeting President Obama last night, Ahmed Mohamed and his family plan to leave the United States for the foreseeable future. Schools from across the country have made offers to Ahmed since he was arrested at Irving’s MacArthur High last month—his homemade clock confused with a hoax bomb, transforming him into a symbol of perceived anti-Muslim bias. But apparently it was an offer from the Middle East that most intrigued the family. The Mohameds announced today that they’ve accepted a foundation’s offer to pay for the 14-year-old’s high school and college in Doha, Qatar, which Ahmed visited a few...

After Ahmed Mohamed was detained by police for bringing a homemade clock to his Texas high school because school officials thought it looked like a bomb, President Obama invited the tinkering Muslim teen to bring it to the White House. “Cool clock, Ahmed,” Obama wrote on Twitter. “Want to bring it to the White House? We should inspire more kids like you to like science. It’s what makes America great.” Despite the ninth-grader’s repeated insistence that the device was not a bomb, Ahmed was handcuffed and driven to a juvenile detention center, and police considered pressing charges against him over...

Ahmed ‘Clock Kid’ Mohamed Visits the Butcher of Darfur By Ian Tuttle — October 16, 2015 Is anyone saving Darfur these days? You might remember Darfur. Just a few years ago, it was all the rage. There were t-shirts, postcards, and tote bags. There was an Amnesty International compilation album with songs by U2, Jackson Browne, and the Black Eyed Peas. There were baby onesies. Celebrities were all about saving Darfur. In April 2006, thousands of people gathered on the National Mall to urge the Bush administration to intervene. Among the speakers was George Clooney, who a few months later...

A Texas teen’s journey from handcuffs to presidential handshakes reminds us how far some remain from understanding this nation’s founding ideals, a lesson a former president – and inventor – might help us understand even as 14-year-old Ahmed Mohamed visits the White House at the invitation of President Obama. A month ago, the Irving, Texas, high school student was arrested for demonstrating ingenuity while Muslim by inventing a clock. Like Ahmed, Thomas Jefferson was an inventor. Coincidentally, he also helped imagine our concept of religious freedom. Jefferson, like the Texas teen, also loved a new gadget. In 1806, while a...

Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed, father of ‘Clock Boy’ Ahmed, shared another 9/11 ‘Truther’ Facebook post, only this time in Arabic, claiming that the clock incident will lead to spreading Islam in America.

The Dallas Morning News described Mohamed as having “racked up weeks of suspension” and pranking the “classroom projector.” His former Sam Houston Middle School 7th grade Texas History teacher, Ralph Kubiak, admitted that Mohamed’s First Amendment appeal when trying to wiggle out of trouble, although clever, backfired. The principal doled out Saturday detention. Retired, Kubiak admits a fondness for Mohamed yet dubbed him a “weird little kid” who could either wind up the CEO of a company or “head of a gang.” Kubiak recalls a chatty budding clockmeister. “He just went on and on.” Mohamed learned English as a second...

The family of 14-year-old Muslim student Ahmed Mohamed is planning to take legal action against the school for calling police after a teacher discovered a “homemade clock†that looked eerily similar to an explosive device, while questions continue to be raised about whether the incident was a “purposeful hoax.†Amid comments from electronics experts who say it appears that Mohamed simply took apart a 1970s era alarm clock and reassembled it in a pencil box, Judge Andrew Napolitano said the family may face charges if the incident is proven to be a publicity stunt.“If this was part of a purposeful...

The Muslim American boy championed by President Barack Obama is using his new worldwide fame to accuse Texans of racism and anti-Muslim discrimination. “My dream is to raise consciousness against racism and discrimination,” he said at a New York press event with Turkey’s Islamist Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, according to an article in the Turkish newspaper, HurriyetDailyNews.com. “Davutoğlu, who is New York for the 70th United Nations General Assembly, has met with 14-year-old student Ahmed Mohamed, who was detained at school by the police in Texas when a teacher thought a clock he had made was a bomb,” the newsite...

I suppose that headline is a bit optimistic -- the media is very good about suppressing stories that expose them as frauds; see the Gosnell coverage. But we're coming to a point where the media's continue refusal to acknowledge the obvious is going to become very embarrassing to them. IBD states the obvious. (I can't quote it because it's short, but it dispels so much of the previous myth-making here; do read it.) Suggesting, to me, that we're about to hit the moment of Peak Media Embarrassment is the fact that the tech community is now openly referring to this...

The sister of the boy who brought a suspected hoax-bomb to his Texas high school said she was suspended from a school in a prior bomb scare. Her suspension occurred in 2009 while she was attending middle school in the same district. Lesley Weaver, a spokeswoman for the district, said school officials can’t release any information about the 18-year-old sister’s episode because the Sudanese parents won’t sign the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, The school has already sent the form to the immigrant Sudanese parents, but they won’t sign it, she said. The sister is named Eyman Mohamed. “I...

Mayor Beth Van Duyne of Irving, Texas is blaming death threats received by Irving’s police chief, police officers, teachers and school administrators on President Barack Obama for his hasty support before the facts were known. Fourteen-year-old high school freshman Ahmed Mohamed was briefly arrested after bringing a suspicious ‘briefcase clock’ to school last week.Mohamed’s claim to have made the clock himself has been exposed by experts as a hoax. The experts state Mohamed took a manufactured digital alarm clock (a 1986 Radio Shack Micronta brand clock-radio) out of its housing and placed it in a pencil box that made it...

The family of the 14-year-old Muslim boy who was led out of school in handcuffs has hired attorneys to get back the homemade clock that administrators mistook for a bomb. Ahmed Mohamed was suspended after showing his clock to a teacher at his Irving, Texas, high school last week. His case sparked an outcry on social media and attracted the attention of President Obama and a number of tech companies who invited Ahmed to visit. His family said in a statement Wednesday that it had pulled Ahmed and his two siblings out of the Irving school district "because of religious...

Ahmed Mohamed, the 14-year-old pulled out of a Texas school in handcuffs after a digital clock he built was mistaken for a bomb, withdrew from MacArthur High in Irving, Texas — or, rather, his father withdrew for him while he was in California visiting Google, according to a Texas newspaper. The family is headed to the United Nations and then, possibly, Saudi Arabia.

Last night, Irving Texas Mayor Beth Van Duyne revealed that the family of Ahmed Mohammed has repeatedly refused to meet with city officials, refused to released records exonerating police conduct, and that President Obama had tweeted about the case even before pictures of the so-called “clock” were publicly available. Appearing on Glenn Beck’s The Blaze TV, Van Duyne noted how reporting on the interaction between Mohammed and police had been remarkably one-sided, in part because the Mohammed family refused to release records noting: “As a juvenile, they can not release those records. The school district, a number of times, has...

Clockmed Heads to UNAhmed the clockmeister is going to the UN. The Pope, President, Obama, 97 world leaders and Clockmed. You just know this is Obama’s skulduggery. I imagine every Muslim school student is dreaming up ways to scam the system in a similar fashion. Unbelievable. This makes ‘1984’ look like a children’s story. The 14-year old all-American schoolboy clockmaker who didn’t make a clock at all and is the son of a belligerent Muslim activist and perennial Sudanese presidential candidate whose brother runs a trucking company amusingly called Twin Towers Transportation (Mark Steyn) The invented nothing. He took...

14-year-old Ahmed Mohamed, who made headlines last week after he was arrested for bringing a homemade clock into school, has already received praise from a number of familiar names such as Barack Obama and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg. Now, to Mohamed’s further delight, tech giants Microsoft have pledged their allegiance to the whizz-kid in generous fashion. The multinational technology firm expressed their support for Ahmed, not through kind words, but by sending the young engineer a huge hamper of tech goodies, including a Cube 3D printer.

You know . . . the one that looks like a suitcase bomb? I want to remind you of a story that emerged in the aftermath of 9/11, because it demonstrates something about how people process information they’re given. When the first of the Twin Towers collapsed, or so the story went, there was a man standing on the roof. As the building went down, the man “surfed the building to the ground” and walked away. This circulated for a couple of days and was widely accepted as true. But of course, it wasn’t true. No one can “surf” a...
