Politicians at Senator McCain’s funeral were bemoaning the loss of civility in politics, and Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing this week for the Supreme Court surely promises to prove that. There definitely has been a decline in political civility in recent years. Some say it started with Robert Bork’s 1987 Supreme Court confirmation battle.

Whenever it started, we seem to have a hit an all-time low. Just last June, Representative Steve Scalise was gravely wounded and other Congressmen were shot at. There was a time when people involved in politics like Sarah Sanders could at least expect to go to dinner...

An online “racial justice” organization called Color of Change has launched a new campaign inspired by U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters’ (D-Calif.) with the slogan: “Civility won’t save us.” The organization is peddling limited-edition “Be Like Maxine” tote bags, along with the message that Americans should adopt the divisive congresswoman’s “fighting spirit.” On Friday’s radio show, Glenn beck made it clear he doesn’t think what our our country needs is a bigger dose of incivility — Maxine Waters approved or not. After pitching a tote-ad parody, Glenn added, “Black Lives Matter co-founder Alicia Garza says, ‘Civility won’t save us because this...

Anthea Butler Democrats will lose in 2018 if they don't shut up about civility and shout about our democracy dying Rejoice, Republicans, you will have another majority on your hands, because Democratic messaging for the 2018 election cycle is nonexistent. Harsh? Not even. The unimaginative leaders of the Democratic Party — Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez — have been playing nice and talking about the virtues of "civility," while the Republican Party has been accusing Democrats of backing Communism and supporting the violent street gang MS-13. (Trump has...

The ongoing harassment of Trump supporters by “courageous” liberals reached another level on Tuesday night when a random adult stranger approached a group of teenagers at a San Antonio, Texas Whataburger and not only stole a MAGA hat one of them was wearing, but tossed his drink on him as well.

Police are investigating after a 16-year-old boy was verbally abused and assaulted at a restaurant for wearing a Make America Great Again (MAGA) hat. The incident was filmed and the video went viral. The clip, obtained by News 4 San Antonio, sees the unidentified suspect throwing a drink in the face of 16-year-old Hunter Richard’s while saying “you ain’t supporting s***.” Hunter, from San Antonio, Texas, was having a meal with his friends at a Whataburger restaurant in Thousands Oaks when the incident occurred.

With all the division and dissension today, most will agree on one thing: Civility is breaking down in our society. Maybe not so much in day-to-day life, for most of us. But certainly in the realm of business, academia, entertainment and especially government. It seems reasonable to ask: How long before this filters down into the rest of society, even more than it already has? What’s the cause of civil breakdown? It depends whom you ask. One person will say it’s social media. But that’s blaming the medium. It would be kind of like blaming the telephone for a fight...

Leftist politicians cite the disproportionate ratio of Blacks among the criminal population as “evidence” of racism among law-enforcement personnel. Two recent studies undermine this contention. One study by professors from Michigan State and Arizona State universities– “Is There Evidence of Racial Disparity in Police Use of Deadly Force?”–analyzed officer-involved fatal shootings in 2015 and 2016. This study found that the higher rates of Blacks getting shot by cops matched the higher rates of Blacks engaging in criminal behavior. A second study done by Harvard economist Roland G. Fryer Jr. found that police officers were more reluctant to use deadly force...

We must not sink to this level. Hard-working, law-abiding Americans are witness to bad behavior and victims of cultural bullying every day. Last weekend about 20 people protesting the nation’s immigration policies were arrested in Boston. Civil unrest — however inconvenient and damaging to the general public — has been fully sanctioned by progressives and any opposition is pilloried. Each disruption benefits from politicians and media who draw fraudulent comparisons to the civil rights movement. Online Twitter mobs are “dox-ing” (releasing personal information) and intimidating private citizens who voice their opposition to open borders. On a daily basis, concerned Americans...

In the year and a half since Donald Trump swore in to become President of the United States, the political climate has gone from bad to downright hostile. Every week seems to bring about a new issue that drives people into deeper and deeper hysteria. It may only be a matter of time before our country is torn apart by another civil war. Over the past few weeks, the mainstream media has whipped the masses into a frenzy over the country’s immigration policies. Illegal immigrant families are being separated at the border when they are processed to be sent back...

The level of verbal discourse in this country has reached a new low with the issue of illegal immigrants entering the country’s consciousness because some have been separated from their children. This issue is worthy of a discussion to have as a country. That being said, the level of debate has reached a demeaning and harmful low as some are invoking language and taking actions that are not only improper, but downright uncivil and un-American. This column does not debate the issues, but rather confronts the behavior of certain individuals. We can all agree that families showing up at our...

Portland open-borders protesters berated a young female KATU reporter over her appearance until the abuse became so over the top that she was forced off air. “Tacky-a** heels, those are ugly as f***…make your face look a little more appealing,” a protester, who looked like she hadn’t showered in a week, yelled at the reporter while she was on-air. The leftist abusers hurled sexist insults at the reporter while claiming that the station had reported that Immigration and Customs Enforcement could not be abolished. In a post on Facebook about the verbal abuse that she was subjected to, the reporter,...

Restaurants have no obligation to serve agents of mass human suffering Last week, restaurants once again served as a battleground in the culture wars, igniting a debate over how Trump administration officials should be treated in public. It started when Department of Homeland Security secretary Kirstjen Nielsen was jeered at MXDC Cocina Mexicana, a D.C. Mexican restaurant, in the wake of the administration’s extreme immigration policies. Days later, it came to light that senior White House policy adviser Stephen Miller, the architect of the government’s family separation policy and genuinely Bad Person, was called a fascist and heckled by his...

Remember when Laura Ingraham tweeted about how David Hogg was “whining” after being rejected by a bunch of colleges, and the left, in a fit of outrage, immediately went after her show’s advertisers? I seem to recall folks on the right were pretty irritated at those pushy social justice warriors. But now that White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was asked to leave a restaurant out of the owner’s “moral conviction,” some say it’s time to “go low” and “fight dirty.” SkyMast, whose profile description says she’s been “resisting the siren call of Marxism for 23 years straight,” also...

A Stuart man is behind bars, accused of threatening to kill U.S. Rep. Brian Mast’s children in response to current immigration policies. Mast has three young children. Laurence Wayne Key is facing federal charges under the offense of "communication of a threat to kidnap or injure a person." Key’s social media pages show he is very politically active. He volunteers regularly for the Democratic Party of Martin County and has volunteered many hours for Planned Parenthood, according to a friend of Key’s.

The small Virginia restaurant whose owner asked White House press pecretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders to leave has now become the site of heated political demonstrations. Police in Lexington had to cordon off the portion of the road in front of the Red Hen restaurant, where an estimated 75 protesters brought signs, waved flags, and chanted slogans on Tuesday. One unidentified individual even hurled chicken feces toward the restaurant, which landed on the sidewalk.

President Trump says in a fundraising email that Democrats “only care about ‘equal rights’ if you’re a liberal,” citing the left’s harassment of his top advisers and declaring, “not on my watch.” Two days after Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters of California urged Americans to harass Trump officials in public, the Trump campaign issued a warning in the email Tuesdaynight. The email, entitled “Harassment,” states: “Sarah Huckabee Sanders was kicked out of a restaurant. “[Homeland Security Secretary] Kirstjen Nielsen was harassed in her own home.

Ohio Since President Trump’s election, journalists, political scientists and others from across the United States and around the world have visited our little southern Ohio town, population 6,600, to study the natives. Naturally, patronizing local eateries at breakfast or lunchtime is usually part of their itinerary. We contrast this, of course, with the recent episodes involving Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen and White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, both of whom were essentially evicted from restaurants — Nielsen heckled away by customers, Sanders asked by the restaurant owner to leave — for the crime of Trump association, similar to...

An openly gay Pennsylvania lawmaker has drawn backlash after he “welcomed” Vice President Mike Pence to Philadelphia with a picture of himself flipping the bird. “Get bent, then get out!” state Rep. Brian Sims, of Philadelphia, wrote in a Facebook post Tuesday ahead of Mr. Pence’s visit to a fundraiser for Republican gubernatorial candidate Scott Wagner. “Vice President Mike Pence, let me be the first person to officially welcome you to the City of Brotherly Love, and to my District in the State House!” Mr. Sims wrote. “To be clear, we’re a City of soaring diversity. We believe in the...
