Imagine that a Republican state attorney general had been forced to resign after being convicted of perjury and obstruction of justice. Now imagine how the story would have been played on MSNBC. Fair to assume that the word “Republican” would have featured in the story’s first sentence? But in a stand-alone segment on today’s Hardball on the forced resignation of Kathleen Kane, the Pennsylvania AG who was convicted on nine charges, host Chris Matthews failed to ever mention, and the screen graphics never revealed, that Kane is a Democrat. Kane had illegally leaked secret grand jury documents to harm a...

Chris Matthews is scandalized that Donald Trump would call Hillary Clinton (or Barack Obama) the "founder of ISIS." On Friday night, after all the controversy, Matthews said "You know, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this." That's not true. Two years ago, on September 10, 2014, after a presidential address announcing the United States would commence bombing raids on ISIS, as we documented at the time, Matthews insisted his hate object Dick Cheney (pronounce it "Chee-ney") "created al-Qaeda" and "created ISIS." "Please do not listen to Dick Cheney," Matthews advised Obama. "He's the one that created al-Qaeda...

No thrill up the leg, but maybe something running down it. I first noticed this with Joe the Plumber. Ordinary citizen finds himself with a moment in the spotlight and uses it to criticize the president. The media immediately springs into action - not in support of the citizen’s right to dissent, but as a mass prosecution team demanding to know who this ingrate is, and what right he thinks he has to cast aspersions on the high exalted leader. He heard in the days that followed the Obama/Joe interaction that Joe was not a real plumber, didn’t have a...

Truncated title. Full title: Matthews: ‘Gross’ To Say Hillary Had Anything To Do With Amb. Stevens’ Death, ‘I Don’t Care’ What Victim’s Mother Felt During MSNBC’s coverage of the Republican National Convention, host Chris Matthews reacted to a speech given by Susan Smith, who’s son Sean was killed in the Benghazi terror attacks, “I don’t care what that woman up there, the mother has felt, her emotions are her own, but for the country, in choosing a leader, it’s wrong to have someone get up there and tell a lie about Hillary Clinton.”

July 18, 2016, 09:37 pm Chris Matthews: GOP 'ruined' evening by having 'that woman' speak on Benghazi By Joe Concha Patricia Smith — the mother of Sean Smith, who was killed in a terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya, in 2012 — delivered a raw, emotional and unapologetic speech at the Republican National Convention that centered on one person: Hillary Clinton. "For all of this loss, for all of this grief, for all of the cynicism, the tragedy in Benghazi has wrought upon America, I blame Hillary Clinton," Smith declared from the convention stage in Cleveland on Monday night. "I blame...

Apparently, MSNBC's Chris Matthews could not wait for the audio(courtesy Real Clear Politics) release of the 911 call made by Harvard employee Lucia Whalen. If he did, he would have discovered she never inserted the race of the individuals she was describing during her conversation with the 911 dispatcher, while she reported what she thought was a burglary in progress. Her call led to the arrest of Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates. However, Mr. Matthews and his guest Michael Eric Dyson decided to attack Ms. Whalen instead on a July 21st Hardball segment. Below is a transcript:

An email sent anonymously to the city council suggested Mayor Lindsey Horvath had a secret abortion. WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA -- Hours after Mayor Lindsey Horvath published a letter denouncing Donald Trump and telling him he wasn't welcome in her town, emails with computer links to graphic abortions were sent to the entire West Hollywood City Council along with a message that suggested she once had a secret abortion. The email was sent Monday and came with the subject line: "Are These Undercover Videos of Linsey P. Horvath's Secret Abortion? Watch dismemberment & decapitation of unborn baby." Horvath said the sender...

Matthews confronted Jeff Weaver over the fact that Sanders has yet to release his tax returns. Weaver said, “We should perhaps follow the example of yourself when your wife was running for Congress.” Matthews muttered “Oh here we go” as Weaver said that Kathleen Matthews––who mounted an ultimately unsuccessful congressional bid this year––never released their tax returns.

Update: Joan Walsh response to this blog post is featured below. Outside of a Trump rally Tuesday night in Albuquerque New Mexico, anti-Trump protesters showed up and became violent, throwing rocks, smashing doors, jumping on cop cars and setting Trump flags on fire. For a couple of hours, police tried to control the protesters and find a way to let the hundreds of people who attended the rally, trapped inside, out safely. An NBC reporter was even knocked down off camera as he reported on the scene. Yet his colleagues at sister network MSNBC were less than shocked by the...

On Wednesday, MSNBC’s “Hardball” host Chris Matthews stated of the unrest outside presumptive GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump’s rally in New Mexico, “I don’t think they’re that violent.” Matthews said, while talking to Albuquerque Police Officer Tanner Tixier “I don’t see violence yet. I did see that police car with the windshield smashed. I’ve heard about other incidents of violence — low-key violence so far.”

One of the duties of the Kentucky Secretary of State is to oversee elections. So shouldn't it seem a bit strange that such a person, Alison Lundergan Grimes, acts in a blatantly unprofessional manner by publicly gloating over the loss of a candidate she opposes by mocking him? Not to MSNBC's Chris Matthews. He not only failed to question this, he happily gushed over Grimes while speculating about the next step in her political career. You can see Grimes' gloat followed by Matthews' gush in the following video.

Watching Chris Matthews interview Obama, I was struck by just how uninterested in policy questions Matthews (and his panel) were, and how almost every question seemed to be, at heart, about Obama's emotional response to difficulties-- not about policy itself, but about Obama's Hero's Journey in navigating the plot of President Barack Obama: The Movie. As with a MacGuffin in the movie, only the Hero's emotional response to the MacGuffin matters. Again and again, Matthews and his panel focused not on weighty questions of state, but on what toll these important-sounding MacGuffins took upon the Star of the Picture, Barack...

Put a lid on your libido, Chris. The video of MSNBC Hardball host Chris Matthews caught on hot mic Tuesday night after Donald Trump won the Indiana primary has gone viral. Matthews could be heard in the background drooling over Trump's wife, Melania. Of course, that resulted in a major part of the web community laughing at Matthews. However, what most probably have forgotten is that nine years ago, Matthews was caught on camera gushing buckets of drool over Erin Burnett who was host of CNBC's Street Signs at the time. So let us now watch both of Chris Matthews' drool sessions...

MSNBC host Chris Matthews enjoyed Melania Trump’s “runway walk” on a hot mic during MSNBC’s primary coverage on Tuesday.

The Hardball host was heard enthusiastically commenting on Mrs Trump's 'runway walk' as she joined her husband for his victory speech in Indiana on Tuesday. While Brian Williams was speaking about the impact the result would have on the Republican party, Matthews could be heard talking about Mrs Trump's appearance. Apparently unaware he was speaking into a hot mic, Matthews said: 'Did you see her walk? Runway walk. My God is that good. I could watch that runway show.'

Monday on MSNBC’s “Hardball” while discussing his New York Magazine article about Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump entitled “America Has Never Been So Ripe for Tyranny,” the former New Republic editor Andrew Sullivan said Trump was a “reality television asshole,” to which host Chis Matthews apologized to his audience for at the end of the segment.

Among the more intriguing results from Tuesday’s primary contests, the crowded race to fill the heavily-Democratic Eighth Congressional District in Maryland featured none other than the wife of Hardball host Chris Matthews whose candidacy included accusations that the couple leveraged their coziness with the D.C. and Hollywood elite for campaign donations. Unfortunately, MSNBC made no mention of this race during their live results coverage when polls closed at 8:00 p.m. Eastern until 1:00 a.m. Eastern and along with the MSNBC personality being absent from the coverage due the the campaign but, most importantly, that Kathleen Matthews finished in third.
