PARIS (AP) — Is a 13-year-old girl old enough to agree to sex with an adult? That's a question France is asking itself as the government prepares to set a legal age for sexual consent for the first time. Twice in recent weeks, French courts refused to prosecute grown men for rape after they had sex with 11-year-olds because authorities couldn't prove coercion. Amid public horror, the government is drafting a bill to say sex with children under a certain age is by definition coercive.

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) — A Southern California man who got less than the maximum sentence for sodomizing a 3-year-old girl has been told he'll spend 25 years to life in prison. The Orange County Register reports that a judge agreed Friday to delay re-sentencing for 22-year-old Kevin Rojano-Nieto until January but said he'll receive the mandatory sentence. A 47-year-old man has been charged with raping a 14-year-old Houston-area girl who investigators say told a doctor she was his wife and they were having sex. Fort Bend County jail records Steven Carty was being held Thursday on a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child, with bond at $100,000. A Guatemalan national accused of raping a minor has disappeared after being allowed to post bail. Gabino Vargas-Perez, a 20-year-old legal resident whose parents live in Guatemala, allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl whom he was dating after stalking her for months at Central High School, according to KETV News.
