<p>When a convicted three-time murderer passes out of this life, there's typically not a lot of mourning.</p>
<p>There's some, though, and the other day, Jerry Thompson's widow, Jackie Thompson, sat on the sofa of her modest Eastside home, alternately planning the funeral, choking back tears and chain-smoking generic cigarettes, extra-long ultra-lights. Usually a pack a day is enough for her, but this week she has gone through twice that.</p>
