With Windows 10 (and probably many other OS's) when you delete a file, be it email or others, it is not really deleted but is recoverable. I have a large bunch of "deleted" emails and quite a few personal records that I want to permanently remove from the hard drive. I am looking for suggestions on "shredder" programs (or are they all, "Apps" now?)

CBS Local — A computer program used to help your PC run faster has reportedly become the latest victim of hackers looking to breach the security of millions of its users. CCleaner, the computer-optimizing tool made by software company Piriform, was successfully infected by malware, according to security firm Cisco Talos. Hackers broke into British company Piriform’s free software for optimizing computer performance last month potentially allowing them to control the devices of more than two million users, the company and independent researchers said on Monday. The malicious program was slipped into legitimate software called CCleaner, which is downloaded for personal computers and Android phones as often as five million times a week. It cleans up junk programs and advertising cookies to speed up devices.
