Protesters in Puerto Rico called for Gov. Wanda Vazquez to resign Monday after stores of relief supplies were found unused in a locked warehouse over the weekend as the island reels from a powerful earthquake. Dozens gathered outside La Fortaleza, Puerto Rico’s governor’s mansion, banging on frying pans, denouncing Vazquez and holding signs with messages including “Government, Absent, Criminal, Negligent.” “I have never come out to protest but this caused me so much anger and indignation,” protester Rubi Oliveras told El Vocero newspaper. “How is it possible that you say you care about the country and yet you let so...

Puerto Rico Gov. Wanda Vazquez has fired the island’s director of emergency management after officials found a warehouse full of emergency supplies dating back to 2017's Hurricane Maria. Vasquez dismissed Carlos Acevedo on Saturday and gave officials two days to investigate why the wasted supplies were forgotten. The warehouse was initially investigated for damage following recent earthquakes in the area, and investigators found thousands of items of supplies, including food, water, diapers, and medicine that were intended to help those affected by Hurricane Maria years ago. ¡Esto le saca las lágrimas de coraje a cualquiera! 😡😡😡 Pañales, comida para bebés,...

Carlos Acevedo, director of Puerto Rico’s Office of Emergency Management, was dismissed Saturday. The governor appointed Maj. Gen. José J. Reyes, the adjutant general of the Puerto Rico National Guard, to replace him. Acevedo has denied allegations of mishandling, saying the agency has been actively distributing supplies, according to a statement released through the office of emergency management. No residents have been denied any supplies in the warehouse, including food, diapers, baby formula and cots, Acevedo said. He said about 600 pallets of water were distributed when Hurricane Dorian and Hurricane Karen threatened Puerto Rico and during a drought that...
