But ANSWER never talks about the failures of socialism, as exhaustively documented as they are, at its rallies A few of tomorrow’s radical revolutionaries may have gotten their start in Chicago on the weekend.

TAKE THE NEXT STEP AMERICA When people think of the United States of America, they tend to think of a few things right away: freedom, power, and capitalism. To true Americans, these three values are to be defended more strongly than life itself. But unfortunately, while many people are staunch believers in capitalism, few people take it to the next logical step: nationalism. Competition through capitalism is what forces companies to be better. It is what has made us the world power we are today. The influential philosophers of modernity, Ayn Rand and Adam Smith, praised our economic system as...

One of the most surprising developments from last year’s presidential campaign was the reach enjoyed by Bernie Sanders, a candidate who unabashedly championed socialism as a solution to the country’s economic ills. In the Michigan Democratic primary, Sanders took first place with 598,943 votes to Hillary Clinton's 581,775 votes, winning 87 percent of Democratic voters between the ages of 18-24. No one seemed more amazed by this than Konstantin Zhukov, a Russian immigrant who was studying at Northwood University during last year’s election season. “When I heard Bernie Sanders’ ideas, I was surprised to hear them, but at the same...

Today’s post will be quite short because a) we arrived back at our Park City bunker very late late last night: 12:30 AM local time, 2:30 AM from whence we came, and 2) when we got here the house was 43 degrees as the furnace had quit working at some point in the last 10 days. So I’m cold, I’m tired, and I’m extremely cranky; you really don’t want to interact with me right now.Instead I ask you to contemplate how badly the country needs somebody like Betsy DeVos in charge of public education when you consider the ramifications of...

One of the speakers at this year’s Modern Language Association (MLA) meeting brought up a fascinating quote by William Wordsworth that may well be an indictment of the annual conclave of English professors: "To dissect is to murder." If that is so, much of the professoriat at the MLA meeting could be up on assault charges. If he hadn't already passed away, Herman Melville might want to file such a complaint. Melville, of course, is the author of Moby Dick. Many will probably recognize this as the one about a one-legged sea captain pursuing a great big whale. Yet and...

In Matt. 16:18 Jesus said: “You are Peter and upon this rock I shall build my Church.” It’s unlikely that at that time Jesus was thinking of any franchising opportunities for His Church by including a fast food restaurant. When He gave Peter the keys to the Kingdom, He didn’t give him keys to a McDonald’s. Well folks, if you have not heard about this yet, McDonald’s has just opened one of its newest franchise locations just steps away from where the center of all Catholicism sits. Just before 2016 came to a close, McDonald’s started serving up its world-famous...

One of the reasons why free market capitalism is superior to socialistic government's such as those practiced in the USSR, China and Hitler's Germany is that even those who are not geniuses, who are underachievers have the ability to achieve success and prosper greatly! As long as the government stands out of the way, even a poor, uneducated, immature lad on the cusp of adulthood can manage success and achieve great things! Many of our greatest achievers in business, science, art, technology, cinema, music, religion, humanitarianism, medicine, even politics have been the sort of people we've been conditioned by government...

If you’re wondering if the new normal in American politics includes a president-elect rage-tweeting at companies he dislikes, engaging in near-daily hissy-fits over media coverage he finds insufficiently obsequious, and engaging in constant social media warfare over slights to his ego, you’d be right. Witness the emerging gangster capitalism of Donald Trump. No one has felt much genuine shock that Donald Trump refuses to divest his control over his empire in a real, legally binding way. Only a fool would believe Trump would draw a sharp, bright line between his personal and family financial interests and the interests of the...

They stood in line at Trump Tower, sometimes up to half an hour, handing over their cash for mementos of the president-elect: mini, gold-wrapped chocolate bricks stamped “Trump.” Trump monogrammed sweaters, towels and glassware. Trump cologne. “I bought it for my two sons,” said Shanon Loggins, 47, of Lufkin, Tex., showing off a golden shopping bag embossed with the Trump crest that carried two bottles of “Success by Trump,” a fragrance for men. “They need to be successful,” she explained. Business is good for Donald J. Trump. People are flocking to his Midtown Manhattan skyscraper, dining in his restaurants and...

Embattled Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes is a victim who has been "totally attacked," venture capitalist Tim Draper told CNBC on Tuesday. Holmes has been under fire since a series of reports by The Wall Street Journal suggested the blood-testing start-up's testing devices were flawed. "Elizabeth Holmes is a great example of maybe why the women are so frustrated. She is a woman entrepreneur who built a fabulous company, did great things for consumers and she got attacked," the founding partner of Draper Associates and Draper Fisher Jurvetson said in an interview with "Closing Bell." "This is a great entrepreneur who...

Coming up, an article by Reuben Ben Abraham of Los Angeles California. A senior member of the New England Alliance for Liberty and Free markets and a brilliant economist in the Austrian school gives us this insight in the superiority of the capitalist system over socialism... The article I am typing now deals with traits that show the superiority of capitalism, inspired by an incident that took place at a McDonalds restaurant one morning that illustrates capitalism. Anyway, this first incident I want to illustrate took place at McDonalds restaurant in Wilshire Boulevard across from Ross Department store and California...

Suspending the law of supply and demand is about as possible as suspending the law of gravity Recently I had the opportunity to spend some time with a person who would easily qualify as one of Lenin’s useful idiots. Here is a man who grabbed the brass ring. Not by government intervention. Not by being one of the bigtime crony capitalists who rig the system that chooses winners and losers. No, he had achieved success and fortune through his own ingenuity and hard work. And for this I have always respected and commended him. Why would I call such a...

(2nd Paragraph) German sociologist Jens Beckert tackles this problem head-on, making imagination the focus of an extended meditation on the role of the unpredictable future in creating modern capitalism. His new book, Imagined Futures: Fictional Expectations and Capitalist Dynamics, makes a thorough, exhaustively documented argument in support of what many have suspected about capitalism: It's a castle in the air, built on fantasy shading into fraud. He makes a compelling case that no corner of the market is untouched by the process of generating imagined futures. The novelty of his work lies in offering a way to understand that process...

We did not leave the Democrat Party--It Left Us “Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.” —John F. Kennedy “What can Uncle Sugar give you?”—Barack H. Obama The candidate was a man of great courage. A decorated war hero, he was nearly killed in combat. He risked life and limb to save his comrades and never left their side. He was a true patriot in every sense of the word. After his military service, he devoted his life to public service. He stood for strong national defense, a vigorous economy,...

Socialists like Warren think greed and excess during time of economic growth and prosperity mean capitalism itself is evil Speaking at the Democratic National Convention last Monday, U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren let loose on her usual object of attack, banks and corporations, amidst an undercurrent of vocal Bernie Sanders supporters who accused her of being a sellout to the Clinton machine and their political dirty tricks. Warren, who became a popular spokesman for the Democrats’ socialist policies after becoming their banking industry attack dog, opened with a brief autobiography and then, while describing the sad state of the American economy...

Many books have been written about the success of the West, analyzing why Europe was able to pull ahead of the rest of the world by the end of the Middle Ages. The most common explanations cite the West's superior geography, commerce, and technology. Completely overlooked is the fact that faith in reason, rooted in Christianity's commitment to rational theology, made all these developments possible. Simply put, the conventional wisdom that Western success depended upon overcoming religious barriers to progress is utter nonsense. In The Victory of Reason, Rodney Stark advances a revolutionary, controversial, and long overdue idea: that Christianity...

Marxists of the 21st century (not an oxymoron; they exist) have identified a new threat to the glorious proletariat revolution: PokemonGo. Of course, this is par for the course. The Soviet Union banned The Lord of the Rings. Leftist hero (and murderous thug) Che Guevara worked to suppress Jazz music in communist Cuba. The People's Republic of China censored Back to the Future because the regime thought that time travel undermined law and order. And on and on. Now Marxist sympathizers at the socialist magazine Jacobin think the new Pokemon-themed iPhone app—which is currently being enjoyed by millions of people...

In an apparent rejection of the basic principles of the U.S. economy, a new poll shows that most young people do not support capitalism. The Harvard University survey, which polled young adults between ages 18 and 29, found that 51 percent of respondents do not support capitalism. Just 42 percent said they support it. It isn't clear that the young people in the poll would prefer some alternative system, though. Just 33 percent said they supported socialism. The survey had a margin of error of 2.4 percentage points. The results of the survey are difficult to interpret, pollsters noted. Capitalism...
