The state Assembly on Wednesday approved a measure that would allow California physicians to prescribe life-ending drugs to terminally ill patients, sending the proposal to the Senate, which had previously approved a similar bill. Modeled on a law in Oregon, the measure by Assemblywoman Susan Talamantes Eggman (D-Stockton) sparked an emotional debate, with many Republicans saying that it is immoral to assist in a suicide, but with supporters arguing that terminally ill Californians should have a choice to die peacefully without pain. [Snip] Opponents of the bill, including the Catholic Church and advocates for the disabled, voiced concern that the...

Assembly Speaker John A. Pérez is accepting "full responsibility" for mischaracterizations in recent years that he graduated from the University of California, Berkeley. The Los Angeles Democrat's Assembly Web site says he "attended" UC Berkeley but does not indicate whether he got a degree. In a written statement, he said he regrets not doing enough to correct accounts that he graduated. "I take full responsibility for this mistake, and I regret it," Pérez said. Robin Swanson, Perez's spokeswoman, said today that he left UC Berkeley for financial and family reasons after attending for about four years.
  • Assembly Speaker John Pérez a Cal dropout, not grad

When Rep. Hilda Solis inserted remarks in the Congressional Record praising Los Angeles activist John Pérez as "an asset to the labor movement," she was recounting the life story of a man who would later become California's Assembly speaker. "After graduating from the University of California Berkeley, John began working on designing and organizing education programs," Solis, then a Los Angeles congresswoman and now U.S. secretary of labor, wrote in 2004. But the record is wrong: Pérez dropped out of UC Berkeley and never returned. For a decade, Pérez's designation as a UC Berkeley graduate went unchallenged in newspaper articles,...

  • Stomping on the Constitution, California-Style

The California Assembly just passed a bill widely described in the press as “an end run around the Electoral College.” It now goes to the California Senate, which is likely to agree. There is only one slight problem with this proposal. It is thrice-times unconstitutional. The bill is an “interstate compact,” and has been introduced in the legislatures of most of the largest states, by do-gooders who are clueless about the Constitution and how it works. The theory is that if states possessing “a majority of the votes in the Electoral College” pass similar bills, those states would be committed...

I want to find out if any Freeper can answer the question posed above. Is there a legitimate reason that every network, even and especially FoxNews have not covered the Adm Denton snub by the CA Democrats?I have alerted O'Reilly, Brit, Carl Cameron, Sean, Drudge, Townhall's C-Log, WSJ's Taranto, everyone I can think of.So far this story has appeared in FreeRep, HumanEvents, SacramentoUnion, WND, NewsMax [after I gave Carl Limbacher a heads-up] and an inside Politics story in the WashTimes. But NOTHING ON FOXNEWS! All JULY 4TH WEEKEND!A story this explosive could cost the Dems hundreds of thousands of votes, [if...
