A border patrol agent was diagnosed with scabies after processing undocumented immigrants in Otay Mesa, California, the agent's union representative said. Ronald Zermeno, health and safety director for the National Border Control Council union, said the agent told him that he observed several people with open sores while screening them in preparation to be released to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Scabies is caused by a mite that burrows into skin and lays eggs, causing an intense itching and rash, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

MURRIETA, Calif. (AP) — Rumors had swirled among anti-immigration activists near a U.S. Border Patrol station in Southern California that the agency would try again to bus in some of the immigrants who have flooded across the U.S.-Mexico border. Instead, they got dueling anti- and pro-immigration rallies Friday. The crowd of 200 outside the station in Murrieta waved signs and sometimes shouted at each other. "Because of the recent influx of kids and families crossing the border in the Rio Grande sector, our processing capability (there) is full and we've had to go to other places in the Southwest simply to process these people," Johnson said. "So when someone interrupts the ability of the border patrol to process a migrant, you're preventing us from conducting basic health screening and the basic background checks on who these people are," he said.

A chartered airplane carrying another round of undocumented immigrant women and children landed in San Diego on the 4th of July. The plane arrived just before 7 p.m. The undocumented families and children from Central American were flown from Texas to San Diego for processing as part of a federal government plant to address the nation’s border crisis.

One person was killed and four others injured after a man opened fire at an overnight party early Sunday in East Hollywood to celebrate the upcoming Black Entertainment Television Awards. The assailant was a lone gunman who is still at large, said Officer Drake Madison of the Los Angeles Police Department.
