Kevin Moen has four grandchildren. That provides a passage-of-time perspective on The Play, the amazing, five-lateral Big Game kickoff return in 1982 that will mark its 40th anniversary on Sunday, one day after this year’s Cal-Stanford game. Moen was the Cal player who scored the touchdown on The Play, then slammed the ball into Stanford trombonist Gary Tyrrell, putting them both into Big Game history forever and beginning a life-long relationship between the two. “He was one of the guys at Stanford that kept a good perspective with what The Play was,” said Moen. “It wasn’t life or death. An event hosted by METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich at the University of California-Berkeley earlier this month was interrupted by liberal students who stormed the stage in protest of subpar conditions endured by contract workers on campus. One student allegedly assaulted Salesforce.com founder Marc Benioff during the incident. Benioff was on campus on March 2 to participate in the public forum intended to explore the creative culture of the Bay Area through conversations with other leading cultural figures from the community, including Ulrich and the drummer's father, Torben Ulrich, who at 87 is still active in music, film and poetry. Bake sales don't normally get national attention. There was a big turn out for a very controversial bake sale on the Cal campus Tuesday. The Berkeley College Republicans' "Increase Diversity Bake Sale" kicked off right on schedule in Sproul Plaza at 10 a.m. The group announced the sale last week. They said it was designed to spark conversation about a bill that is now on Gov. Jerry Brown's desk that would allow California public universities to consider race, ethnicity and gender in student admissions. The bill is SB185. Berkeley College Republicans posted the prices of its cookies according to race, gender...
