Here, for reasons that I shall provide in a memorandum to be filed in due course, I am certain that “a reasonable person with knowledge of all the facts would [not] conclude that [my] impartiality might reasonably be questioned.” United States v. Nelson, 718 F.2d 315, 321 (9th Cir. 1983); see also Sao Paulo State of the Federated Republic of Brazil v. Am. Tobacco Co., 535 U.S. 229, 233 (2002) (per curiam). I will be able to rule impartially on this appeal, and I will do so. The motion is therefore DENIED.

Rarely do you read a devastatingly funny yet as serious a political book as Gov. Jerry Brown’s Destruction of the California Judiciary. While the title seems like a reach, by the time you’ve read about judges who grow pot in their home, chauffeured murderers, violated court orders and voted to overturn every murder conviction that came before them, you will ask yourself where Governor Brown found so many of these fruitcakes. The book anticipates and answers that question and includes the perspectives of Democrats like Senator Alfred Alquist that Brown “seems to have gone out of his way to appoint...

OAKLAND -- An Alameda County Superior Court election remained undecided Wednesday, with Victoria Kolakowski - who would become the nation's first transgender judge - holding a slight lead over John Creighton. Kolakowski, an administrative law judge for the state Public Utilities Commission, led Creighton, a deputy district attorney, by 50.22 to 48.77 percent, or 3,300 votes out of 230,000 total votes cast, the county registrar's office reported. All precincts have reported, but provisional ballots and late-arriving mail ballots were still being tallied.

WESTLAKE VILLAGE – Meg Whitman said Monday that if elected governor she would appoint only judges who support the death penalty. The Republican candidate's remarks preceded a rally outside Los Angeles at which she told hundreds of supporters that Democrat Jerry Brown is "soft on crime" and that she will end his political career. "One more week," Whitman told a cheering crowd at the Hyatt Westlake Plaza in Westlake Village. "One more week until we retire Jerry Brown permanently from politics." Whitman, joined by crime victim advocates, told The Bee she would treat the death penalty as a litmus test...

California Judicial Elections Judicial and school elections have no party affiliations in California, which can make it somewhat difficult to determine who's decent and who's a lousy Communist mole. In looking at my Tulare County sample ballot I see the following names up for judicial elections. Any opinions? Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye Ming W. Chin Carlos R. Moreno Brad R. Hill Jennifer Detjen Chuck Poochigian Bert Levy And these names for State Superintendent of Public Instruction.
