Just Higginson also said the fight was a political battle, not a legal one

What a simpleton that dissenting judge must be. A good portion of disputes involving states and cities and the feds and members of Congress that end up in court are political disputes. Laws are passed or executive actions taken to achieve some result and then affected parties disagree with the legality of those actions. That's both a political and legal disagreement.

How does this guy think Obama's executive amnesties are only 'political battles'?

A question comes to mind for anyone familiar with how the Scouts operate these days. I know in the past there were full time scout positions at the council and higher levels, but are there any paid scoutmaster positions around the US?

If local scoutmaster and other local troop positions are all voluntary and unpaid, then the motives for volunteering might need to be even more closely scrutinized.

Actually it doesn't matter who the POTUS is - NO ONE is going to pick a fight with the PRC over their South China Sea imperialism, and they know it.

And it sure didn't matter who was president when the Tiananmen Square freedom demonstrations were ended in a massacre of 2,000 back in 1989. It was full speed ahead for the opening of China and increasing trade relations with the US.

Rumor was that GHWB had Brent Scrowcroft in Peking within hours after the massacre, assuring the communists that relations with the US would continue apace. And they did.

This is impossible. We were told by our great globalist leaders that if we’d only open trade with China, ship thousands of US factors and millions of jobs to China, and approve their admission to the WTO, we were told China would become freedom loving democrats and humanitarians once they experienced the wonders of free enterprise and capitalism.

So, someone must be misreporting what’s really happening in China because our great globalists and trade pushers are never wrong about anything.

Obama is not incompetent. He always wanted the crucifixions, the beheadings, the burnings alive. Note that he never has any negative comment about the slaughter or torture of Christians.

A delayed response. I think Obama is an ideologue and a con man. And I think he is extremely incompetent in many areas. Have never bought the notion that he's some evil genius who can foresee how any and every scenario will play out, and that he can manipulate every situation to come out as he wishes, even if he wishes the opposite of what he says publicly.

Most of the Middle East has blown up in his face. The MB regime he helped install in Egypt was overthrown. Libya is a disaster by any measure after they helped overthrow Gaddafi. Syria is complete chaos and he backed away from his 'red line' and no one really knows what's happening there, let along how to identify the "good rebels".

And I think he cavalierly ignored all the warnings of what would happen if he pulled all troops out of Iraq. That was arrogance, pigheadedness and incompetence of one who refused to alter his plans to avert the disaster those most experienced in Iraq told him would unfold.

If the MSM would report objectively about the results of his decisions and policies, he'd look like the biggest incompetent and screw up ever to occupy the Oval Office.

And most important, TPA will require the administration to post the full text of the agreement at least 60 days before completing the deal, so the American people can read it themselves.

That and all that you included in your post means next to nothing since Congress only has an up or down vote with no opportunity to amend the agreement. They set it up that way so they can pretend that the overall agreement is so important and will be so great for the US that they couldn't possibly reject the entire agreement negotiated with umpteen nations because of a few little troublesome details.

They deliberately shut Congress and the people out of the process to avoid objections to details they know would be rejected it presented individually.

In a way, it’s splitting hairs, but what has really happened in China since about 1978 is modernization as opposed to automation. They were so far behind in so many areas of manufacturing that automation just doesn’t cover it.

And that modernization destroyed millions of old manufacturing jobs and created millions of new ones, and maybe resulting in net fewer jobs. And for the last few years, since wages have risen in China, they have been losing jobs to even cheaper labor nations like Vietnam, Cambodia, Bangladesh and others.

These two agreements alone would mean greater access to a billion customers for American manufacturers, farmers and ranchers.

That lie, or at best a half truth, has been used to push every trade agreement since NAFTA and probably before. The problem is, these agreements also eliminate, or almost eliminate tariffs on goods exported from the trading 'partners' to the US.

Removing tariffs on goods exported to the US just increases the incentives for US firms to move manufacturing facilities from the US to the world's cheapest labor nations. They can then take advantage of the world's cheapest labor and pay little or no tariffs on US brand goods shipped to the US.

More firms are likely head here (Vietnam) after the passage of the TPP, they said, because it will reduce tariffs on Vietnamese exports to the US to near zero.

I've already posted the above in a couple of threads, but I believe more than anything else, this is the real motive behind TPP and other agreements.

Remove tariffs on goods exported to the US from cheap labor nations, then move US production to the cheap labor nation. And, like with NAFTA and Mexico where our trade has gone from a slight surplus to a $60 billion deficit, we can expect the same with the TPP nations in Asia.

US firms move footwear factories to Vietnam ahead of TPP

Higher trade deficits as more US factories and jobs are moved to cheap labor nations.

You realize that China has actually lost more industrial jobs in terms of actual numbers over the past 30 years than any country on earth. Bring on the robots!!! Automation YES!!!

In China's case, not really due to recent automation, but their finally moving out of the early industrial age into the 20th and 21st centuries. Still, a lot backyard iron ore smelters were put out of a job.

From backyard smelter to modern industry

And those early industrial age jobs in China were replaced by the US and other Western nations making massive transfers of technology and manufacturing capacity from advanced nations to China and other developing nations. That's how China became more modern.

Your 'point' means little or nothing in this conversation, but maybe now you can tell us how agricultural mechanization eliminated millions of farm jobs during 19th and 20th centuries.

So not sure what you are inferring by them "stealing music on a massive scale."

So, you could figure out how music was being copied illegally on a massive scale before the internet, but you can't figure out how music is being copied illegally on an even more massive scale with the internet?

Music was being copied on a massive scale way before the Internet. Billions of blank cassette tapes were sold during the 1970s. You think consumers were using those to tape themselves talking?

Like I said, much of that blank tape was being used to make legal copies of vinyl recordings people already owned so they could play the tapes in their vehicles.

But any illegal copying in those days was child's play compared to what can be done now. You must be one of the few around who doesn't understand that, and what happened to half the music industries sales revenue over the past ten years.

    End of discussion.

    Is that true?

I've heard that, but don't know for sure, either. There was the recent case of a Christian nun from Iraq who was denied a visa. She was to come and testify about what had happened to Christians and other Iraqi minorities at the hands of ISIS.

That caused a stink and she was later given a visa, after at first being denied.

But I don't think there is any doubt that Muslims are being given preference. There are as many or more displaced and endangered Christians in the ME as Muslims and Obama's incompetence is he reason for much of it. Don't know if any significant numbers of ME Christians are being allowed into the US. They should first on the list.

So half the revenue of the music industry has been lost? So what. It simply got transferred to the innovators who provided a better alternative to obtaining music on an overpriced piece of plastic (the compact disc).

Lol, just what I thought. Another one who justifies the theft of music from music creators because some great 'innovator' came up with a method to obtain the music without paying the creator of the music.

So, you agree with me after all your posturing and posing. Music is being stolen on a massive scale.

And all those tapes were not being used for theft. I copied the music from many vinyl albums I owned to tape so they could be played in an automobile. Probably the biggest use of blank tape once tape players were put in cars and trucks.

Lower level acts have stopped touring because there isn’t enough big money acts to fund the production companies year round. No one to drive the bus, no one to run the sound, no one to run the lights. These people threw in the towel too. The kind of guys that ran sound for Motorhead for twenty years have all quit.

That's about what I've thought for a few years. If an act hasn't become popular enough to make money touring, they have few other ways to make money. You probably have the local talent playing gigs in their area and hoping for a break, and then the big acts who can fill large arenas, and not much in between.

All this new technology you keep talking about has provided thieves with numerous ways to acquire music without paying for it. Ever heard of youtube.com? Theft of music is absolutely the problem in the US and around the world.

The revenues and profits are there if they want them.

So, the music industry just lost almost half its revenue over ten years and they don't care? They could get the revenues and profits back "if they want them"? I guess they just don't want that other six or seven billion a years they once realized.

Are you sure? Can you link a source for that?

I've been of the belief that there was in the past, and maybe still, a large movement of parts from the US to Mexico for final assembly, then shipment back into the US for sale. And I've thought those items were counted both as exports to Mexico and then imports back into the US.

If you are correct, then the US trade deficit with Mexico is far more than the stated $60 billion or so at present.

More firms are likely to head here after the passage of the TPP, they said, because it will reduce tariffs on Vietnamese exports to the US to near zero.

And they expect many more us factories to locate there with their cheaper than China labor and the near zero tariffs on goods shipped the US they expect under the TPP.

That's how these trade agreements usually work: they make it easier to relocate US factories to cheap labor nations and they eliminate, or almost eliminate all tariffs when the American brand goods are shipped to the US.

Actually, it's the Republicans and their major donors pushing this and most all major trade agreements. They're working with Obama just as they worked with Slick Willie to pass NAFTA. They want this TPP more than anything they fear about Obama.

And they know the terms of this agreement are being specified as much by transnational corporations as by Obama's trade reps. The real question might be what political pressures or ideologies caused Slick and Obama to support trade agreements the Dem. party largely opposed, and the Republican party largely supported.

Several conservative talkers and many others have framed their opposition as opposing any colluding with Obama, or not trusting Obama, but this is something most national Republican politicians want. - And those corporate players who heavily influence, or even dictate our trade policies, don't change much no matter who is president.

We might never know the answer, but everything he's done (and not done) in the Middle East has strengthened the most radical Moslems, and even brought some of them to power, except that Egypt eventually backfired on him and the MB was overthrown, much to Obama's displeasure.

But from the perspective of most Americans, his foreign policy has been one disaster after another. Of course, the far left and most Democrats will never admit what a disaster he is. And some of them like the disasters.

Santorum did relatively well in 2012, winning 11 states.

But how many did he win before it was obvious Romney had won the primaries? Santorum hung around and won several states after Romney had won it, and most other candidates had dropped out.

I think Huckabee did the same thing in 2008. But it's how many votes and states did someone win while the primary race was still competitive that really matters.'

Third, Obama refused to identify and groom an allied force fighting against President Bashar al-Assad in Syria.

Obama has definitely created one catastrophe after another in the Middle East. Every move he's made was the wrong move.

But I've always been highly skeptical about the proposed schemes to arm the thoroughly vetted "good rebels" in Syria. I don't think there are any good rebels the US could rely upon as a good ally in the fight against ISIS, now or in the past.

The story has the ring of pure BS, and mighty late in showing up since Obama has been a national figure since sat least 2007.

Gates did not call upon BSA leaders to make a decision on the matter forthwith, but he did caution that if the organization doesn’t change on its own the homosexual lobby and its allies in the courts are likely to force the issue.

What a disingenuous tool. The BSA won this issue before SCOTUS and now Gates is still trying to force the organization to cave and allow gay scout leaders. This is not an issue for Gates, it's a mission.

More firms are likely head here after the passage of the TPP, they said, because it will reduce tariffs on Vietnamese exports to the US to near zero.

That's what TPP is really all about.

US firms move footwear factories to Vietnam ahead of TPP

But I thought Obama said TPP was to level the playing field, open Asian markets to US goods and create jobs in America and, blah, blah, blah. Nike is now big in Vietnam.

Count on it, our deficit with Vietnam and probably all of Asia will be even larger after TPP is in effect.

What will probably happen in the trade deal is that some barriers will be removed in both directions, thereby making it cheaper for US firms located in Asia to ship goods back to the US for sale with little or no tariff charges.

Here's a Google related to US factories in Vietnam:

    US factories in Vietnam

The goal of most of these so-called 'trade' deals is to make it cheaper to locate US factories to cheap labor nations, and then remove any tariffs on goods shipped back to the US. That will probably be the main result of the TPP; few more US goods shipped to Asia and beaucoup more Asian propduced goods shipped to the US, with most of those goods produced for US owned firms.

At the same time, producers in Vietnam sold $30,583,600,000 in goods to purchasers in the United States.

Lol, and how about a breakdown of those "producers in Vietnam". Likely just a bunch of relocated US factories and maybe some Chinese owned subcontractors producing goods for US firms. And maybe a very few actual Vietnamese firms.

Vietnam is where many transnationals have fled to since wages in China have risen to an unbearable $2.00 to $3.00 per hour.

What else did anyone expect from Republicans on any trade deal put before him? Most will support anything called a trade deal. It was Republicans and Slick Willie who put through NAFTA over the opposition of most Democrats in Congress and 60% of the public. Same deal here.

This is all just a bunch of concocted false drama that has nothing to do with reality. These bought and paid for Republicans will carry out the desires of those who bought and paid for them.
