How wonderful for you to be able to be there! I hope that Bishop Semple will be able over time to have an impact on OCP in encouraging a recovery of the treasury of music with more traditional hymns and propers in both English and Latin in parishes. I know that things are difficult because the Liturgical Industrial Complex has been entrenched in dioceses and parishes nationwide for 40 years, and that even well intentioned shepherds may for political reasons want to tread carefully so as not to cause too much disruption. But I have some hopes maybe the tide is turning a bit.

At a higher level, I’m warming up to Pope Francis, especially some of his rather unvarnished and hardhitting homilies, but I do hope that the liturgical efforts of his predecessor will not be in vain and that we can continue on an improvement in reverence and beauty in the liturgy, even if with more noble simplicity.

I believe you are wrong and disastrously so in the current environment when the Church is under attack from all sides. Our Lord appointed in Peter a person to lead a visible Church, not an abstract idea. We should be faithful and obedient to the person of the Pope and rally round him, as well as being faithful to Scripture and Sacred Tradition as authentically interpreted by the Magisterium through the ages. The Magisterium has living authority and didn’t just stop in 1962. The Ordinary Form of the Roman Rite is not heretical, invalid or illicit, even if one might have prudential objections to it and prefer the Extraordinary Form, liberated by our current Pope. The other stuff you mention is just nitpicking. There is overwhelming evidence of the orthodoxy of belief of our current successor of Peter, as with the previous incumbent, but SSPXers always seem tendentiously to take one or two tiny things and interpret them in the most unfair way to impugn the orthodoxy and the integrity of the Holy Father. That is not a Catholic attitude. And even if the Pope were to comply with every last one of your demands (and last I checked, Vatican I made the Pope the supreme governor of the Church, not you), I have no doubt you will find new grounds to criticize him as a “modernist” and the Church as a “Conciliar Church” that is a new religion. It is so tiresome. Get over yourselves, submit to proper authority in the Church and further the cause of “tradition” within the Church.

I hope you’re right. I know the Pope is taking measures to build for the long term, and that sadly we may need to go through a period where the Church becomes smaller but more faithful.

The problem with this is that the Romney campaign was all friendly persuasion and no rage, and it didn’t win. I just think the country is screwed no matter what. The American people have changed.

I am so upset about what has happened to this beloved country. I read various Catholic bloggers counseling about the need to set not our trust in princes and seek the kingdom not of this world of which Our Lord spoke to Pilate. However, I still just feel so bitter, particularly that a majority of Americans apparently want the course of moral and economic suicide we are on. I know that I will eventually reach a place of serenity and trust in God and learn not to care about US politics, but I’m not quite there yet. Feeling very Eeyore-ish today.

If I were Muslim, which I am not, I would be rather miffed that something with a little more aesthetic appeal and compatability with the historic surroundings would have chosen instead.
