  • Interview with Smokey Robinson (my thoughts re "Spectacle" episode with Elvis Costello)

Spectacle is a TV show you can find on cable or Netflix. It is an Elton John production featuring Elvis Costello as the interviewer. Elvis Costello introduced Smokey Robinson with a musical number. Then he said something that I thought was a great and succinct summation about meeting Smokey Robinson: "If Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, and Groucho Marx came out and sat down, I could not [be more pleased and impressed.]" If found it fascinating that Smokey showed up with a necklace and a Christian cross displayed prominently. I don't know anything about Smokey's faith or practice, but this little...
  • Documents: ATF used "Fast and Furious" to make the case for gun regulations (Dec 2011)

Documents obtained by CBS News show that the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) discussed using their covert operation "Fast and Furious" to argue for controversial new rules about gun sales. PICTURES: ATF "Gunwalking" scandal timeline In Fast and Furious, ATF secretly encouraged gun dealers to sell to suspected traffickers for Mexican drug cartels to go after the "big fish." But ATF whistleblowers told CBS News and Congress it was a dangerous practice called "gunwalking," and it put thousands of weapons on the street. Many were used in violent crimes in Mexico. Two were found at the murder...

....David Brooks, who is as conservative as a columnist is allowed to be at the New York Times, celebrates Mr. Romney as the Sleepy-time Guy no one has been waiting for. ..... This is a variation on the traditional Republican campaign slogan: “Vote for us, we’re not as bad as you think.” If the elites pick the Republican candidate who will put everybody to sleep, Barack Obama might slip through a side door at the White House when nobody’s looking. [again!] But the great gift of the tea party is not only that it strikes terror in the hearts of...

Yesterday [Feb 23, 2011], the FBI arrested Khalid Ali-M Aldawsari for the attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction. His arrest marks the 38th successfully thwarted terrorist plot against the United States since 9/11. The FBI, with the help of concerned citizens, should be applauded for stopping the plot before it was able to mature. At the same time, it also highlights key failures of Congress and the Obama Administration in homeland security. According to the FBI, Aldawsari, a 20-year-old Saudi citizen and student at South Plains College in Lubbock, Texas, sent numerous e-mails to himself outlining “nice targets”...

Most likely scenario: A vanity post. Act 1-- Kagan calls the White House. "Sir, it looks like we are going to be asked to recuse on Hollister." "Don't worry, that's just another lawsuit without standing" "No, sir, Judge Roberts never brought that up. He pretty much allowed Hollister standing simply by taking the case" "Kagan, you have been my hands and feet on keeping my private life private, now Michelle and Valerie --- ahem, I mean Michelle and I -- have responded by making you our eyes and ears on the high Court. What does Rosey think?" "Her name is...
  • Kuhner: Obama's socialist agenda must be stopped

President Obama has engaged in numerous high crimes and misdemeanors. The Democratic majority in Congress is in peril as Americans reject his agenda. Yet more must be done: Mr. Obama should be impeached. He is slowly - piece by painful piece - erecting a socialist dictatorship. We are not there - yet. But he is putting America on that dangerous path. He is undermining our constitutional system of checks and balances; subverting democratic procedures and the rule of law; presiding over a corrupt, gangster regime; and assaulting the very pillars of traditional capitalism.

“How do you tell a communist? Well, it’s someone who reads Marx and Lenin. And how do you tell an anti-Communist? It’s someone who understands Marx and Lenin.” -- Ronald Reagan This article is a vanity (self-composed, not a news article) in response to a question on another thread: "... something is really bothering me. When have these marxists ever taken a good look at their ideology? When have they ever presented a justified explanation for marxism, even to themselves?" Socialists are true believers. They have alot of faith. Until they become party leaders. By then they are "in too...

From Obama's speech: "Islam has a proud tradition of tolerance. .... I saw it firsthand as a child in Indonesia, where devout Christians worshiped freely in an overwhelmingly Muslim country. That is the spirit we need today." A glance at this month's programs offered by the Clinton School of Public Service here in Little Rock lists an appearance by Polly J. Price, dean of faculty at Emory University's law school. She'll be discussing her fine new study of Richard S. Arnold's law and life... That's Richard Sheppard Arnold, who was regularly described... as the greatest judge never to have served on the Supreme Court of the United States. ...the program is being presented at the school named for William J. The allegations against law enforcement people in Tenaha and in Shelby County, Texas are the kind of allegations you’ve heard about people in Cuba, North Korea, and the former Soviet Union. People in charge are accused of manipulating laws, blackmailing, extorting, and not giving a you know what about civil rights and common decency. Here’s the deal: at least 150 drivers, virtually all of them African Americans or Latinos have accused the town cops of pulling them over for minor infractions. Once pulled over, the drivers are often asked if they have money. If they say yes, these drivers tell...

At the moment, only a fool would argue with the premise that the primary trend for the global economy at this time is ‘contractionary.’ ‘Down -- and down hard’ is the best phrase to describe the current global economic trend. Some would argue that in this context, Deflation is the dominant theme in what we have sometimes characterized as the ‘Leaky Bathtub Economy.” Picture the global economy as the bathtub, where on the one hand we have a huge credit deflation taking place where debt is being extinguished, defaulted upon, and wealth is being destroyed at a record rate.

Obama’s website has already conceded that he is a “natural born citizen” of Kenya, which was under the dominion of the King when he was born, and that he allegedly allowed his Kenyan citizenship to expire when he turned 21. Expiration does not remove the problem, however, because it does not eradicate his “natural,” i.e. “inherent,” loyalty. In other words, assuming Obama was born in Hawaii, he would hold “natural born citizenship” in two different countries, which is tantamount to saying that he has “dual loyalties” to two different dominions. This means that, in the end, someone will have to...

Obama’s Birth Certificate Challenger Keeps Going You've got to hand it to Philip J. Berg: he doesn't give up easily. You might recall that Philadelphia attorney Berg tried, and failed, to halt the presidential election of Barack Obama on the grounds that he is not a native-born citizen. Game over, right? Wrong. Berg filed a writ of certiorari to the U.S. Supreme Court in late October, asking that the highest court review the decision of the U.S. District Court in Pennsylvania. The latter court dismissed Berg's claims because he lacked standing to bring them. Standing requires plaintiffs to prove they...

By Jonas Oliver | Article Date: 11/20/2008 4:46 PM On December 5, 2008 the United States Supreme Court is expected to meet to review a case being brought by Leo C. Donofrio against Nina Wells, the secretary of state in New Jersey, which challenges whether or not Barack Obama is a "natural-born citizen" and thus qualified under the U.S. Constitution's to become president. Ironically Donofrio’s suit also claims that Sen. John McCain’s name should not have been on the election ballot for the same reason. The case, which was unsuccessful at the state level, is not expected to find much...

Eliot Spitzer, who is temperamentally unable to stay out of the headlines for more than 72 hours, is back in them again. Last week, the New York state attorney general accused commercial insurance companies of bid-rigging. In response, the stocks of the biggest players implicated, Marsh & McLennan and AIG, have tanked, losing a combined $38 billion in market capitalization. More alarming for the insurers, Spitzer signaled this was just the beginning of an industry-wide investigation. For when he finds a few bad eggs, Eliot Spitzer cleans out the entire coop and changes the way it is run, as Wall...
