  • Freepers! Need Help on the Fred Phelps / Al Gore Connection!

I'm here in Columbia, Missouri. The local radio talk show was discussing Governor Mel Carnahan's funeral tomorrow in Jefferson City (about 30 miles south). Slick and Owlgore are gonna be there. But who else? They said Fred Phelps of God Hates Fags will be there to picket the funeral, as Carnahan was a reliable lefty who loved the homosexuals and helped them whenever he could. They were berating Fred and linking him to Baptists as intolerant people. So I called them and said, "Maybe Fred is going to see an old friend." "Who"? they asked. "Well, Al Gore," says ...

    Columbia (Mo.) Daily Tribune ^ | October 10, 2000 | AP
ST. LOUIS (AP) - An off-duty St. Louis city police officer shot and killed a robbery suspect Sunday night inside a fast-food restaurant on the city’s north side. Police said Thomas Anthony Mack, 18, entered a Church’s Fried Chicken restaurant around 11:30 p.m., just as two employees were getting ready to close, and demanded money from the manager. Mack was a former employee of the restaurant. The second employee escaped through the back door and ran to another fast-food restaurant across the street, where two sheriff’s deputies work as security guards. Also at the restaurant was the off-duty officer. Schron ...

Columbia Daily Tribune ^ | September 2, 2000 | George Mazurak of the Tribune's Staff
By GEORGE MAZURAK of the Tribune’s staff Story ran on Saturday, September 2, 2000 At 28, Clay Strawn is going bald. He said that shaving what’s left on top of his head just makes sense, though he sports a shaggy goatee. Early yesterday, one of four assailants who attacked him on the street called him "skinhead" shortly before he lost consciousness. They were black. Strawn, who is white, contends the attack was a hate crime. "I can’t see any other reason those guys would jump me," Strawn said. He did not know his assailants, and he wasn’t robbed. The suspects ...

  • HELP! Church History Question. What is Source for Apostles Martyrdom According to "tradition"??"

    06/11/2000 2:31:43 PM PDT · by Timmy
    Vanity ^ | June 11, 2000 | Timmy
Sorry for the vanity, but I cannot find the answer to this. Foxe's Book of Martyrs, and numerous other sources, discuss the martyrdom of the Apostles, according to church traditions. However, I cannot find the sources for these traditions. I have looked in Clement, Justin Martyr, Polycarp, Ignatius, Eusebius, etc., but cannot find anything except that Paul and Peter were executed under Nero during the "persecutions" (this according to Clement). The Bible (Acts) deals with James's (brother of John) death, and Josephus tells us about the killing of the other James (not an Apostle, but brother of the Lord ...

The Passing of the Armies ^ | 1914 | Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain
I sent the following message out to my email group. Thought I would share it with the patriots here. Hope you enjoy it. Memorial Day (formerly Decoration Day) was established in 1868 to honor the Civil War dead. So, I am bringing up an item from that war to mark this week. Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain. If he is known to Americans at all, it is probably from reading Michael Shaara’s classic historical novel (and Pulitzer Prize winner), The Killer Angels. If you have not read it, you are missing a wonderful piece of work. Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, from Maine, ...

    Breakpoint With Chuck Colson ^ | April 10, 2000 | Chuck Colson
BreakPoint Commentary - 4/10/2000 A "Possession of Cuba"? : Why Elián Must Stay by Charles Colson Since last November, America has torn itself apart over the case of Elián Gonzales, the bright-eyed six-year-old who was found bobbing in the ocean off the Florida coast. Like many Americans, I've been ambivalent. On the one hand my commitment to family values made me believe that Elián's place was with his dad. But Castro is a ruthless tyrant, and nobody ought to be sent to Cuba. Last Thursday, my ambivalence ended. I believe Elián should not be turned over to his father, and ...
  • Peter Jennings just deliberately lied on his show

    ABC News ^ | February 28, 2000 | Peter Jennings
I couldn't believe it! I was watching ABC News with Peter Jennings. After reporting McCain's anti-Christian speech, Peter Jennings said (paraphrase), "We need to tell you that the Catholic Voter Alert phone calls that occurred in Michigan are reportedly also being made in Washington state." They then went to a commercial. He never told the viewers that Catholic Voter Alert is John McCain! I can't believe the blatant bias! This is too much.
  • Bush up in polls, predicts victory

    reuters ^ | February 18, 2000 | Staff
COLUMBIA, S.C. (Reuters) - Texas Gov. George W. Bush (news - web sites), leading in every poll on Friday, predicted victory in Saturday's crucial South Carolina primary -- but a massive turnout could still swing the battle for Arizona Sen. John McCain (news - web sites). The vote, open to Democrats and independents as well as Republicans in this state which has no formal party registration, could be pivotal in determining which man eventually claims the Republican presidential nomination. A Reuters/Zogby poll on Friday showed Bush leading McCain 43-40 percent, well within the sample's four-point margin of error. A ...

    The Weekly Standard ^ | January 31, 2000 Issue | Christopher Caldwell
Editorial January 31, 2000/Volume 5, Number 19 Elian Should Stay by Christopher Caldwell, for the Editors Last week, lawyers for 6-year-old Elian Gonzalez filed a motion in federal court to prevent the boy from being sent back to Cuba. It’s an uphill battle. On Thanksgiving Day, Elian, one of 14 people who had fled Cuba on a rickety raft, was found strapped to an inner-tube with a drowned 60-year-old woman bobbing alongside. Ten others had died in the attempted crossing, including Eli·n’s mother and stepfather. Since the boy’s rescue, hundreds of thousands have marched in Miami to demand that his ...

The phone rings: "Your 6-year-old son has just been found in the ocean, shipwrecked, clinging to an inner tube. His mother drowned. He is now in a Miami hospital." Do you respond: (1) "I'll be there as soon as I possibly can." Or (2) "Send him back to me. I demand it. " In an otherwise softball interview on "Nightline," Elian Gonzalez's father was asked repeatedly why he didn't go to Miami to see his son. He never answered the question. He simply repeated his demands for his son's return with ever greater vehemence, finally threatening the Miami relatives with ...
  • Nun Who Hosted Elian Reunion Says He Should Stay

    USA Today ^ | January 27, 2000
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - The nun who hosted the reunion between Elian Gonzalez and his grandmothers said Thursday she now favors letting him stay in the United States because of the way all sides have politicized the situation. Sister Jeanne O'Laughlin told The Associated Press that before the meeting, she believed the child should be with his father, but now ''what I saw and felt really frightened me for the child.'' She blames both sides but also specifically cited the Cuban communist government. Also Thursday, the Justice Department filed a document arguing that the judge should dismiss the Florida ...

President 2000: More Fallout Over Pro-Life Ads on McCain Source: National Right to Life and South Carolina Citizens for Life Press Release, Jan. 12, 2000 Washington -- John McCain's presidential campaign has put out yet another falsehood in its attempt to evade the substance of criticisms leveled in radio ads sponsored by South Carolina Citizens for Life PAC and National Right to Life PAC. The ads, which began running January 10 in major South Carolina cities, criticize McCain for telling the editorial board of the San Francisco Chronicle that "certainly in the short term, or even the long term, ...

I just heard that our Jimmy Carter era wacko, Ramsey Clark, is leading a demonstration to have young Elian sent back to Cuba. I got to thinking about the positions taken by prominent people on this issue. Let's keep track: Send 'em Back Bill Clinton Janet Reno Henry Waxman Ramsey Clark Let Him Stay George Bush Jeb Bush Dan Burton Rush Limbaugh John McCain Alan Keyes Gary Bauer Orrin Hatch Steve Forbes Oliver North Thomas Sowell Papa Joe Chavalier (sports radio) I am sure I have missed many. Any additions?

Perhaps I missed it, but I never once, while watching hours of news on Y2K, heard anyone mention any significance for celebrating "the new milennium" (I know it's not really) or why 2000 is a special number. I also have seen no one discussing it here. Evidently, all these people are worshipping Numeralology or something. Did anyone hear anything at all about the year being based on the coming of the Messiah? Is this the "great ignored story" of the whole Y2K shebang? Thanks for your thoughts.

New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani said that Mildred Rosario's firing from a Bronx middle school earlier this month for discussing heaven, death and God with her students "astounded" him. In a statement released to CNS, the mayor allowed that he had not seen all the documentation on the incident, but added, "She (Rosario) seems to have received very little representation, so I was astounded by the procedure." Giuliani said that New York City schools have had teachers accused of theft, sex crimes and even pedophilia who "remained hanging around for two, three or four years with very vigorous ...
