It is with a very heavy heart that I am announcing that the TCMS will be no more. humblegunner & I had a serious discussion about this several months ago and we both agreed it was time for it to end. The past several years I have dreaded planning this event, even though there isn't a lot to the planning as it has become a well oiled machine. It just doesn't seem the same anymore. We have a great 14 year run! I will definitely miss seeing all of you at this event. Know that I adore all of you....

It's time for the fourteenth annual TCMS!

It's that time of year again . . . Once again I fought the idea of having the shoot in the same place as the previous year. But after some convincing talk from humblegunner, I agreed that he was right and the TCMS has found a home. The shoot will be on September 28 at https://www.hicksvillegunrange.com/We have reserved Cherokee Village, http://cherokeevillageresort.com/ from September 26th ~ 29th. Please make your reservations by June 30th. As usual there will be lots of food, fun, drinks, Scrabble and darts!

TCMS tradition was broken last year for two very good reasons. That, by default, started a new tradition ~ holding the shoot in the same location! I only fought a little bit to go back to original idea of not going to the same range in consecutive years. The wise ole planning committee feels that the TCMS has found its home. The TXMS VIII shoot will be held at Hicksville Gun Range, in Gatesville, TX on October 6th, starting at 10:00 a.m. Where once again we can enjoy the range dogs, the owners and lunch provided by our own cook,...

The fun has begun! Tonight's dinner is BBQ ribs & chicken, potato salad and cole slaw. There will dart games, Scrabble and lots of BS'ing and laughter. Tomorrow the shooting starts at 10:00 at Hicksville Range in Gatesville. Eaker's ashes will be blown into the Heavens at 11:00. If things follow the same pattern as every other shoot, we'll eat lunch around 1:00. Looking forward to seeing all that show up, will miss those can't make it.

For the first time in 12 years I am breaking two traditions for the TCMS. Each year the shoot is held at different locations; although some ranges were visited two or more times, it has never happened in consecutive years. But because my life has been a bit wonky lately I just don’t have the energy for the research and recon. The other broken tradition is the name change. This year we will also honor my co-cat herder, NYTexan, and my beloved husband, Eaker; both of these fine men passed away within days of each other this past March. Therefore,...

The planning stages for TCMS XI are in the works. At this point the plan is to hold the event in October 2016. (Yes, I know that is a looonnnggg way away!) The range we are considering is Hiciksville Range, in Gatesville. The closest lodging we could find is in Whitney. We have already had one recon trip, which was not very productive due to heavy rains. The entire recon crew checked out one of the places we are considering staying. The majority of us fell in love with the place, even though it was a gloomy weekend. It made...

This week our daughter is on vacation in Istanbul. I am excited for her to be able to travel to such a historical place, but at the same time am worried sick. I'm not going to sleep well until I hear that she has landed safely in NYC. We are keeping in touch via Whatapp (an app that lets you text from anywhere there is wifi and won't charge international rates). She is enjoying the sites, getting the hang of how to travel about the city and even sampling some "weird food". What prompted her to go to Turkey? Her...

Today we head to the range to honor TexasCowboy's love of the 2nd Amendment by shooting lots of guns & eating BBQ on the range. Friday was a day of leisure, shopping, getting items stuck in a tree, eating yummy food and cursing a stupid fishing poles. Fun times! Pictures will be posted at some point ~ the wifi is iffy here, so be patient.

Nine years ago Eaker & I were talking about what a wonderful person TexasCowboy was and what poopheads his children were. We both agreed that it would be a damn shame to let the memory of him lapse. Three or four times a year TexasCowboy would host shoots at various ranges across Texas. After everyone was finished shooting, he would then serve up a yummy lunch. It was while Eaker & I were talking that I came up with the (rare brilliant) idea of continuing what he started, but to do this in his memory. This is how the TexasCowboy...

A date and cabin locations have finally been chosen. This year’s shoot will be October 18th. Once again it will be held in Seagoville, (5 miles south of Route 175 or 3.5 miles NE of I-45 (exit 270) on S. Belt Line Road). The plan at this time is to meet at Cotton Gin in Crandle for breakfast at 9:00 a.m., BUT they are currently closed due to a fire. Hopefully they will be reopened by October. If not, Plan B will be put in place. After breakfast we will all head to the range. A delicious lunch will be...

Three people accused of parachuting off the top of 1 World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan this past September turned themselves in Monday along with an earthbound accomplice to face charges, including felony burglary, misdemeanor reckless endangerment, misdemeanor jumping from a structure The case is the second in two weeks arising from surreptitious stunts from the structure. A teenage boy was arrested on March 16 after authorities said he slipped through a gap in a fence, eluded an inattentive security guard and spent about two hours atop the 1,776-foot-tall tower. The incidents have raised questions about security at the lower...

On July 4th a new tradition was started - Roman Candle Dodge Ball, with a twist. The twist being try to dodge the Roman Candles while riding a four wheeler. In the middle of this game, humblegunner made a comment that he bet there are several people on FR that would like to do this to him without trying to miss. For their viewing pleasure . . . humblegunner humblegunner humblegunner For everyone else, here is Eaker & TheGirl . . .Eaker Eaker Eaker Eaker TheGirl TheGirl

Local students from the Aransas Pass High School Art Club paint a mural in honor of Veterans. The idea for the mural came from my mother (the lady in the video). She did a lot of leg work to get this project going to make something good out of "that ugly wall".

Because everyone had such a great time at the last shoot we are anxious for the next one. The date for the 8th Annual TCMS shoot will be June 8th, 2013 and will be held at Dietz Gun Shop and Shooting Range, in New Braunfels, TX. Providing we get the OK from Mr. Dietz – I will call him this week to discuss our coming to the range. Staying in the Pelican Bay cottages this year was a stroke of genius, so we will again be staying in cottages. The cottage pick for this shoot is the Cypress Creek Cottages,...

Thank you humble gunner for the graphic.

TexasCowboy (aka COB1) was a true Texas gentleman, great friend, patriot, and a firm believer in the 2nd Amendment. It is truly an honor to continue a tradition he started many years ago, hosting shoots for FRiends around the great state of Texas.

Planning has begun for the 7th Annual TexasCowboy Memorial Shoot. This year’s shoot will be held at Schwenke’s Rifle & Pistol Range, 4407 FM 1069, Aransas Pass, TX. Which is a few miles north of Corpus Christi. The date of the shoot is October 6th, which is Columbus Day weekend. I have not talked to the range owner yet to see if we can cook on the range. If not, we will head over here for food & more fun. What food & who cooks has yet to be determined. I’m thinking, since we will be on the coast, we...

In February of this year my older brother went to the hospital due to severe pain and swelling in one leg. Those doctors could not figure out what was causing the pain and swelling, so they sent him home to see his own doctor. His doctor could not figure out the problem either; mean while his other leg started hurting. He was sent to Houston for yet another set of test; still no results. His doctor and the doctors in Houston tried different treatments (medicine) to treat his pain. By this time he has used up his vacation, sick leave...
