I have been wondering why the issue of the intrusive census questionnaire has not been brought up as a corollary to the government intrusions and data collecting on innocent citizens performed by the IRS.

“‘Government is not spying’ (American Community Survey - 2010 census)”

I cannot sit silently after reading “Census Calling on Kaua`i” (April 29, 2013).

The article is counter to my personal experience and I feel compelled to share my experience with you.

In the article the statements made by Mr. Gene Henry of the American Community Survey are counter to fact. This is not a letter representing one party or another. It is not an attempt to sway you to opt out of the American Community Survey. It is simply a recitation of fact.

In 2010 my wife and I received a letter demanding that we participate in the ACS. The notification stated that compliance was mandated by law, and that failure to comply could result in my arrest and imprisonment. The questions asked were extremely intrusive, and I responded that I was opting out of the program.

My personal belief is that this “survey” is an intrusion that goes well beyond information that a citizen should be required to provide. Questions regarding personal income, personal habits, personal health and related subjects are subjects that I choose not to share with anyone.

As Mark Twain famously observed, “Patriotism is supporting your country all the time and your government when it deserves it.” In my opinion the government does not deserve to demand the information required by the ACS.

When I notified ACS that I chose to opt out we initially received letters notifying us that this was not an option. My continued refusal resulted in a number of phone calls threatening reprisal if we did not participate.

My wife received an unannounced visit by an ACS representative demanding that she answer the questions in the survey. She wisely suggested that the ACS contact me. The following is a direct quote of my letter of formal complaint to the U.S. Census Bureau following my unannounced visit from Mr. Henry, the field representative quoted in your article. He is describing me:

“I am a combat veteran and I see that Flag up there, but I don’t see an American in front of me.” 18 DEC 2010, 1320hrs

I’ve been wondering why no one is talking about the incredibly intrusive questionnaires put out by the Obama Administration during its census taking process. Not everyone got the intrusive documents, and some of those who did, checked with their state DAs and were assured that they were legitimate and must be answered or the citizen would be subject to federal penalty.

Among other things, they wanted to know your income, where it came from, how much money do you have now? Those who received them and felt compelled to answer stated that they felt very violated and uneasy about what information they gave up in that situation.

This seems to be as big a deal as the other things which have been in the news lately about the IRS.

I’ve done work for T. Boone Pickens and the Pickens Plan since 2008. I wanted to mention this at the top because we’re going to be discussing natural gas.

Don’t…don’t go on your next email yet, this is actually pretty interesting. New data from the Environmental Protection Agency indicates that drilling for natural gas releases significantly less methane (the main component of natural gas) into the atmosphere than previously thought.
Twenty percent less.

This is not seen as good news for the ultra-environmentalists who fervently believe that any fuel made from fossilized plant or animal matter (coal or natural gas) is bad.

They are pushing for the move because green energy sources such as wind farms are less predictable than traditional power stations, increasing the risk of blackouts
The proposals are outlined in documents drawn up by the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E), and has been agreed by the EU-wide body of energy regulators.

The proposals were sent to the European Commission on March 27, and it is set to deliver its verdict on the proposals within three months, the Mail on Sunday reported....

I have some good news and bad news. Good news is that I’ve gotten my seedlings into pots and I think most are doing well.

I planted the 2 amaranth seedlings, and I am sorry to report that they both bit the dust. The heavy rain the other day got the first one. Today I went out and the other guy had collapsed, and I don’t know the cause, but he was gone. *sigh*

I sewed a packet of red amaranth seeds from the Heirloom seed company the other day, so we’ll see if they decide to germinate and do things.

Well stated, CA Guy. We have an uphill climb. America has had them before, and I do not take this challenge lightly. What we face is every bit as dangerous and outcome-hanging-in-the-balance as our 1776 Revolution, bringing our nation together after the Late Unpleasantness of the 1860s, and Normandy, for example.

We do have a cancer in our press...and many of our other institutions as well. We will certainly be gravely sick for a while before we can possibly get better.

The idea of America, however is NOT sick, and too many people hold it in their hearts and WILL NOT SURRENDER. I am recalling from somewhere that only about 30% of the population were actually committed to the Revolution in 1776. We do not have to have the entire population or even a strongly committed majority.

We do have hope, but it is a terribly huge challenge. And the sad part is that it need never have been. But we do not do ourselves a favor to cry over that. We MUST each of us who do love America as she was founded, wake up each day, and ask, “OK, Uncle Sam, what can I do to save America today?”

It might be to talk to a neighbor. Go to a town hall meeting. Post on FreeRepublic.com. Write emails to representatives and friends. Donate to patriotic causes or candidates. The list is endless. Do at least one per day, if not more. This is our calling.

Please see my previous post. I do subscribe to the idea that we must persist. We indeed have overwhelming odds against us, but we MUST play them.

I was feeling quite saddened by the outcome of our poor repub “leadership”.

Rush was saying today, if I understood him correctly, that he thinks that with the smearing of the repubs and the dem-spin in the media, that as far as the lo-info voters are concerned, Benghazi is over and the cover-up has been accomplished.

I do hope so much that that is not true.
