A Mosin-Nagant, that is! She's old, and a bit rugged, but even my wife fell in love with it and got excited. It was right at closing time, and she encouraged me to buy it then, instead of coming back, because it might not still be there tomorrow! Ya Gotta love a woman like that!

Big Five has these on sale for $79.95 (the one I looked at today was a carbine). I'm looking for an inexpensive knockabout rifle to keep in the truck (but still capable of taking out a wild pig), and this looks like it will fit the bill. Do any of you have one of these, or have experience with it? Does anyone know of a reasonable source of ammo? Here's the wikipedia link concerning these rifles- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steyr-Mannlicher_M1895

Need some Freeper help here- I've seen this kind of thing mentioned on here before. My computer has become infected with a virus that tells me I have a "hard disk" problem, that can only be cured by registering their software (six or seven different versions, it would appear). This happened to my wife a couple of months ago with her laptop- she went in under "safe" mode, downloaded and installed Malware Bytes, and the problem was solved. We did the same tonight with my computer, but it did no good. does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

A few months ago, my father passed away. At the time, numerous Freepers graciously helped me in indentifying his medals, for which I and my family were quite grateful. Dad chose to be cremated, and Mom accepted my offer to make an urn for his ashes. The urn is finished now. The plan is to put an engraved brass plate on it, featuring several of his medals and awards. The problem I'm having is that noone seems to be able to do this particular engraving job! It was a big surprise to me, but while the engraver had files for...

My father passed awaythis weekend. Shortly before he passed, he asked my mother to assemble his various medals. Yesterday at the visitation, my brothers asked me about a couple of them, and I was unable to identify them, so I'm asking for some Freeper help here-

Okay, just walked in the door from watching "Serenity". I walked in to the theater prepared to be dissapointed- and, man, was I NOT dissapointed! In point of fact, it blew me away! Now as in any movie, there are plot points and physics (especially the physics in this one!) that could ruin the story for you if you let them. I chose to ignore these things, and just enjoy the movie. I don't want to put any spoilers here- but I have to say that Mal Reynolds (the ship's captain) is a character that any Freeper could respect, and,...

The Democratic national convention is being held this summer of 2004. The usual political activity will take place culminating in the nomination of the party’s candidates for President and Vice-President. This year something new is happening. The party wishes to educate all Americans in the deep moral, ethical, and religious commitments that the party stands for. To impart this important knowledge to us, several party leaders will conduct a series of seminars, and provide us with their expertise, and by doing so will tell us about their individual and party philosophies of life. This schedule is tentative, and the party...

Just a quick note on a news story that was just on- apparently a student at Ranger College (a junior college in Ranger, Texas, not too far from here) was confronted by an armed attacker, who used a false name to get into the student's room. The student grappled with his attacker, and was injured (no word on how badly), but did manage to take the gun away- and shot his attacker! That's the gist of the story on the news- no names given, of course. This just happened today, so I'll post more when the details come out in...

This is the story of what I did for six weeks during the summer of 1963 while stationed in Germany. We sometimes see on TV a clip of President Kennedy making a speech in Berlin, where he told the audience, "Ich bein ein Berliner". The day before that, I saw the President and Jackie get out of their at Hanau Army Airfield, Hanau Germany. This tells why I was there. I was stationed at Bonames Army Airfield just outside Frankfurt, Germany and was assigned to the V Corps Flight Detachment, supporting the Headquarters, V Corps in Frankfurt. Our unit had...

About a year ago, I used a free magazine subscription opportunity to check out Mother Jones (among others). Ever since I've been getting mail here and there who must think that I'm a liberal. Got this in the mail today, and found it so obnoxious, that I just had to share it. Please be easy on any formatting mistakes- this is my first post on FR.Invitation to join the ACLU(title mine) Dear Friend of Freedom: On behalf of the Board of Directors of the American Civil Liberties Union, it is my pleasure to extend this official invitation to become a ...
