  • Are Democrats building a collapsible impeachment?

I'll post here my slightly adapted reply to another questioner in a thread at PredictIt:

"As I understand it, the Democratic Party has been essentially hijacked by its far-left base, and Nancy Pelosi, the Botox-faced representative of the old Democratic party, is struggling desperately to manage what would otherwise almost certainly be an electoral disaster for vulnerable Democrats in 2020. She probably wants if at all possible to let the screeching leftists work out their fury and hatred for a decent president in an orgy of childish name-calling and manufactured slurs, after which the impeachment movement finally peters out into a "resolution of strong disapproval" or some such meaningless jackass blaring that falls far short of an actual up-or-down vote on impeachment. Whether the clever, manipulative b***h can pull it off is very much an open question."

"In any case, I gravely doubt this year will see outright impeachment. The process demands its time in the darkness of incessant lying and closed meetings by giggling Democratic partisans who gleefully leak wildly distorted smears that quickly fall apart under scrutiny. You'll see months more of sound and fury that signifies nothing. It's anyone's guess whether the lunatic left will finally manage to ram through their hearts' desire by April Fools' Day of next year. You places yer bets and takes yer chances."

Heated politics (and my intense loathing for communists and their tactics) aside, I find this whole exercise a bit fascinating.

I see it not as a Constitutional crisis of the checks and balances between the Legislative and the Executive but more as a "Test" of those boundaries.

Up until now, the opposition has never had the balls (or stupidity) to pursue election nullification based on, basically, nothing more than their unhinged desire to do so. Up until now the opposition always had an actual crime to use as a foil while attempting to crush their political rival in a co-equal branch.

And even in those past situations, the results have been decidedly mixed. So what on earth would propel the idiot Dims to pursue this battle now, when the premise is not even plausible and the stakes so high?? Insanity? Insatiable lust for power?

One wonders if any of the geniuses at Planned Parenthood had thought first about the potential fallout from the grisly, extensive discovery process. The court proceedings are public records, which means the abortion enthusiasts will be clubbed over the head with the testimony and evidence thereof for decades after this trial ends. Is schadenfreude an appropriate reaction?

President Donald J. Trump is guilty! He's guilty of being a big meany who makes leftists cry like babies. He's guilty of not allowing a war-weary United States to be drawn into unnecessary, destructive military conflicts such as with Iran. He's guilty of strapping rockets to the American economy by cutting taxes and hacking away at crushing over-regulation. He's ... uh, guilty ... where was I going with this? O_O

I think the company and its deal are fine — I've been on Slickdeals for decades, and it passes my smell test — but you might be having trouble with aggressive marketing tactics. I didn't have any problems myself, but then, I'm using Firefox with a combination of uBlock Origin, Ghostery, NoScript, and Dan Pollock's famed hosts file.

Every link I click on is just another rabbit hole. Love the graphic, but I have my doubts about the validity of the site or the offer.

Mr. Roger Kimball has loads of fun ripping a new one into the Grand Old Whore of New York. Wonderfully evocative phrases such as "gems of hysterical mendacity," "petulant surreality," and "substitute assertion for fact in a rushed and very loud voice, hoping that velocity and volume will distract from the tendentiousness of your assertions" make their appearances with vim and vigor. :-)

For those who prefer brief summaries, the following two excerpted passages seem to best drive home the author's point:

The president did not “privately” press Ukraine about anything. He acted in his capacity as president of the United States to ask the Ukrainian president to help investigate Ukraine’s role in the effort, undertaken by assets in the U.S. intelligence community and the Clinton campaign, to destroy first candidate Trump and then President Trump. It’s not “conspiracy theory,” let alone a “long-debunked” one, it is a fact.

Adding insult to the injury of that existential assault is the fact that Donald Trump has been wildly, spectacularly successful. He has made America more prosperous, more secure, less harried by bureaucrats, and freer in their ability to practice their religion.

The leftists are literally driven to insanity by President Donald J. Trump's remarkable ability to fight back and win victories against the communist–socialist Deep State and other traitors who would destroy our beloved country.

The following passage strikes me as the money shot:

[....] Those on the left now screaming about loyal allies, and the ignominy of selling out friends, had no problems abandoning the Vietnamese and Hmong to Communist retaliation. They have demanded abject withdrawals from both Afghanistan and Iraq, which could lead to slaughter in the former case, and actually did in the latter, by creating a void that birthed the mass-murdering ISIS in Iraq.

It's pure political pandering by the leftist pukes (apologies for the alliteration).

Looks as if President Donald J. Trump (I adore repeating that full title at every opportunity to make the leftists twitch and turn red in the face) once again has made idiots of the opposition while cannily avoiding unnecessary conflict, especially with an increasingly iffy but still important NATO ally.

Ayuh, that's what I was thinking. So-called Kurdistan still exists in Iraq. Let that be the message sent and not the coda of withdrawing vulnerable, highly trained Americans from a danger zone in which they no longer need be present.

OMG, we can't betray the Kurds even though half of them are outright Communists, a quarter of them are loyal to Iran, and the remaining quarter are in it for the $200 and three cartons of cigarettes they're paid every month.

When the Turks start gassing them bomb the Turks. Otherwise let the Turks, Iranians, Syrians, Iraqis, and Kurds finish this fight they've been having off and on, with the parties shifting who they're allied with from time to time, for at least the past thousand or so years.

I'm not quite certain what you mean by "Syrian/Russian military intervention," but the rest of your comment strikes me as spot on. It's time to get the heck out of that particular puddle of nastiness in the cesspool of endless hatred and violence that is the Middle East. -_-

Turkey is in for a much tougher fight than what they are planning for.

There are multiple external restrictions on their actions. Scorched earth and wholesale slaughter will not be tolerated, under threat of US sanctions, and Syrian/Russian military intervention.

Not to mention the Kurds are well supplied and well trained.

Turkey just grabbed the tar baby.

But by us pulling out, we will allow the region to achieve its own equilibrium, something not possible when Goliath roams the mountains.

No truer poster was ever created. I still cannot adequately describe the immeasurable sense of relief that crept over me as I watched the 2106 election results far into the night. An inevitable victory for the sniggering leftists steadily turned into a horrific tear-jerker for them. I was gobsmacked, stunned, and utterly delighted. ^_______^
